Major issues arise when you contract to have your website developed. Copyright law vests ownership in the person or persons who create the site. Paying a web developer under a contract may not transfer ownership to you. This can present problems when you want to make changes or switch to a new developer.
Also, copyright and trademark are often confused. Copyright protects the creative aspects. Trademark protects your "brand" and identity. Both are important.
