Used to be great - not any more.... 10/10/2008

I wrote a great review a few weeks ago of the Fondue Room - we've been there at least 20 times in the last few years and it's always been a favorite date night and girls night out spot. Well, we went again last night and server was horrible and rude and it seemed like she was serving every table in the restaurant. They changed the menu so that it is more like a competitor - but we always went because we liked Fondue Room's vegetarian better and now that's it has changed to be like the other restaurants, what's the point. They now charge extra for requesting different vegetables and then just cut your portion size. The prices have gone up too by quite a bit for the same food! It was a bad experience and I'm sad to say we probably won't be going back. Pros: Fun atmosphere Cons: Crabby servers and can be pricey more

Was good at first!! 6/24/2008

My family and friends have been to the fondue room so much but lately it has gotten worse. I went there Saturdat night and our waitress was horrible!!! The food was skimpy and the chocolate never got warm!! I had a problem here one other time so I emailed the Fondue Room and of course they did nothing. It was like I was bothering them. But you figure as much money as you spend there you would think service would be better. Good luck try it for yourself. Pros: Bathrooms are clean. Cons: To much money for as little as you get and the bad service you get. more

dissapointment 10/16/2007

oh boy where do i begin, the waitress or bartender jenny i believe was so rude i couldnt stand it. the food and portions were horrible, also i had a piece of cheese that was moldy on our platter, as if that wasnt gross enough, i had a hair in my food and when i confronted the bartender about this she acted as ifit wasnt her problem... ewwww!!! maybe if the staff didnt get intoxicated they would care more.. not recommended at all Pros: none at all Cons: our bartender was rude and drunk more

In a word, Superb! 5/5/2007

I love the Fondue room. The food was excellent, the ambiance was great and the food presentation, taste and service were superb. The bar is very cool and so were the staff and the owner, Joann, I think was her name. Pros: All around excellent more

Great Food, Service, Atmosphere 8/5/2006

Our service was friendly, prompt, informative and casual. My wife and I returned for our second visit and everything was as good as it was 2 years ago. The Classic feast for two is $51 and includes cheese fondue, salad, main entree with meats, fish, chicken, shrimp and veggies, and the desert is the best. We finished off all the strawberries, bananas, cookies, etc and still had chocolate left, so our server brought more food to dip until the chocolate was gone. Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: Romantic, private booths make it hard to see the live entertainment. more

Expensive, Disappointing and Skimpy on the food 9/30/2005

So I would know what to expect before I got there I called beforehand to get information. The person that answered the phone suggested a dinner that would suit our party but misinformed me on the size of the portions that would be served and the menu didn't clearly define it either. We paid and absorbant amount of money for the so little food that was served. The waitress was a 0 in personality and service and the food was mediocre at best. Don't waste your time or money. Pros: Live Entertainment, good ambience Cons: Expensive, Poor Service, Skimpy on the Food more

Loved It! 8/16/2005

Very cozy atmosphere. We had immediate seating with reservations. The staff was very friendly. The dinner was quite long but we were expecting it (about 3 hours). I had a martini that was wonderful. Our waitress was a little busy but she was as attentive as she could be - the manager helped out. The food was very good and while it cooked we had time to talk with our friends. It is a nice evening out. If you get the oil fondue beware - you will have an aroma of fried food. Fun, fun, fun. I will definitely go there again. Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: Kids and fondue forks, busy wait staff more

Not Impressed 8/2/2005

I will never be going here again. The service was absolutely horrible. The hostess (whom I believe is also the owner) was rude and gave the impression that we were putting her out by waiting to be seated. Then, our waitress had no social skills whatsoever. She was extremely unprofessional and was very obvious that she did not want to be working. The whole point in paying $70 for a meal, is not only good food, but also customer service. I expect to be waited on by a polite person who understands that their job is to make the patron feel welcomed. The people who cleared the dishes were the most friendly, offering up conversation and checking to see if we needed anything. Lots of restaurants have good ambiance. I would find a different one to spend your money in. You deserve better service. Pros: Ambiance, Fun Concept Cons: Poor Service, Expensive more

AWESOME!!!! 6/30/2005

The Fondue Room is my favorite restaurant of all time! The atmosphere is great and the food is to die for! I have been there MANY times and will always return! The service is prompt, their martinis are great and I couldn't ask for better food! My fiance knowing that this was my favorite restaurant took me there a few months ago and proposed! So now on top of it already being my favorite restaurant I will always have an unbelieveable memory! I would recommend new guests to try the dark chocolate fondue for desert even if they normally don't like dark chocolate. It is a little expensive but worth it for a NICE dinner! It's great! Definately try this restaurant! Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Drinks Cons: Price more

User review by cbaker139 5/5/2005

We went back a 2nd time thinking the poor service was a fluke, we were wrong! We made reservations for Saturday night. We arrived 5 minutes early and the host told us the party after us got there early & since we had not arrived they gave our table away. We had to wait 40 minutes. We had asked for free drinks & they said no. The waiter never cleared dirty dishes. It got to a point where we were piling them on the empty seats. We had to constantly ask for drink refills & those took forever. They had run out of desert chocolate @ 8:00. They should have told us that when we arrived. They offered us free desert next time. They would not give us free drinks or comp us anyother way. We left the free coupon there because there will not be a next time. Cons: Slow , Unattentive more

The answer to my prayers 12/12/2004

I cried the day I found out that La Fondue in Royal Oak was closed. Then by a stroke of luck my sister overheard one of her coworkers talking about some new fondue place in Mt. Clemens. The Fondue Room has a very laid back, swanky lounge feel to it. There are traditional fondue tables and booths but there is alsp cute coffee table fondue tables surrounded by comfy chairs and couches for a ultra casual group dining experience. My favorite part is the small coffee table flanked by two arm chairs for an intimate date feel. Not sure how well the main course plays on these variations but they are perfect for the cheese and chocolate courses. My only complaint is that the chocolate is not quite as good as La Fondue's Cadbury chocolate used to be. Pros: Great decor, Fun drink menu more

Who needs The Melting Pot... 9/16/2004

I absolutley love Fondue, so when we came across this place while driving through Mt. Clemens, I couldn't wait to try it out. A few months later my boyfriend took me here, and by the time we left we were engaged. This is a wonderful place for a long, quiet, romantic dinner. You need about 3 hours to get through the meal, but it's worth it. We loved the steak teriyaki, and the tortellini during the main course, and of course the chocolate fondue for dessert. If you've been to The Melting Pot before, be sure to check this place out, it's less expensive (about 1/2 the price), and more enjoyable. We can't wait to go back. Pros: Romantic, Fun, Great food more

The Fondue Room 8/28/2004

I visited the Fondue Room on a trip to Detroit from Cleveland. It was so good that we're going to plan another trip to Detroit just so we can go there again. The food was amazing and the service was the best I've ever had anywhere. I went in there with high expectations expecting to be disappointed, but all of my expectaions were met and exceeded. There's a fondue restaurant nearby Cleveland that I'm nervous to try because I know all I'll do is compare it to The Fondue Room in Detroit. Pros: private, romantic more
