Carnivore's Welcome! 8/10/2010

So I agree with the previous reviewer. You have to reallyyy enjoy meat, red meat to fully get the experience Fogo de Chao has to offer. Although, they have a great salad bar for the vegetarians, at a lower price but c'mon, this place is about the meat! Fogo is an all-you-can-eat steakhouse with unlimited sides, salad and steak, ribs, lamb, chicken, sausage. This is how it works. Everyone pays per head ($49.50) and you get a ""coaster"" where one side is red and the other side is green. Of course, green means go so they keep bringing you meat. When you want a break, flip it to red. Now when it's on green, beware you will be interrupted with huge slabs of meat on gigantic skewers with guys dressed in gauchos and big knives. You request how you like the meat, rare to well, and they'll slice off a little piece of heaven just for you. Also, all the sides (mashed potatoes, fried polenta, fried plantains and something in the form of a popover) are all unlimited as well. So this is generally how my feast goes. I spend a few minutes eating some of the salad bar which features awesome potato salad and chicken salad! But I quickly eat up that plate and prepare for the feast that is about to happen. My favorite choice is the house sirloin, served rare. I ate the most slices of that! So tender and juicy. As stated before, there are a lot of different meats they offer and when you see something you like, shout and they'll be right there, ready to give you as much or little as you want. Now, there are a few places like this around the DC area, Chima being one. I want to say I like the ambiance better at Fogo but the salad bar is better at Chima's. Regardless, this is for the carnivores of the carnivores and you must prepare yourself for such a meal. Upon arriving home, I tend to crash immediately in a meat coma. This is a good thing of course! It's a must go for everyone I know. more

A Meat Lovers Dream 5/28/2010

Make no mistake: you better seriously love meat if you're going to eat here. I mean seriously. You should have dreams about spooning a prime rib at night, taking meat showers, and perhaps marrying a cow. Sound appealing to you? Than read on.... There is no way to fully describe the experience at eating at this place to a person who's never been there. To summarize, it's basically an all-you-can-eat steakhouse but it serves very high quality, incredibly juicy and well-seasoned cuts of steak, lamb, chicken, and pork. You actually get a stop and go sign at your table. Go means men carrying sizzling skewers will aggressively appear at your table saying things like ""bacon wrapped chicken?"" or ""house special?"" This restaurant is very fast paced and extremely loud. It's a bit of a tight squeeze and it's always packed. Don't come here expecting to have an intimate conversation; it's not going to happen. Do come here wearing elastic pants. It's probably a good idea not to eat within 6 hours of your reservation because you're about to consume more calories in one meal than you probably do in a weeks time. I'm not joking. The salad bar is really, really good, and offers a variety of meats, cheeses, and salad options. But why fill up on that when you have 13 different cuts of animal to nom on? Sides also come with the meal. The best is the fluffy butter biscuits. Just remember to pace yourself. Pros: Excellent cuts of meat, good deal, fantastic salad bar Cons: This is why you're fat more

A steakhouse for a vegetarian? 4/20/2010

Despite being a vegetarian, I immensely enjoyed dining with friends at Fogo de Chao. My group all agreed that this was some of the best meat they had ever eaten, and they never had to wait more than a minute for more - despite it being a busy Saturday evening. In the end, they probably each managed to eat a medium-sized animal...though I'll admit I chowed my way through a small garden plot. The grilled polenta and carmelized bananas were amazing, too. Somewhat expensive, but you'll get your money's worth. Pros: Salad Bar, extremely attentive table service Cons: Too classy a place for the stretch pants you'll want to wear more
