I had a thick, heavy gold chain with the end broken off. On the clasp of the chain it said "10K". It was really heavy, so even though (I thought) it was only 10 karat, I thought I could get a lot.\r

So I took the chain to 3 places (one pawn shop on Federal and two "cash for gold" places). The first place I stopped was this business. The guy looked at it, did a test on the body of the chain, and told me that the chain was actually 14 karat, that the clasp had been replaced with a 10K one. So he weighed the whole thing as 14K and offered me almost $800. After he said something, I noticed that the body of the chain did look different in color than the clasp. \r

I wanted to try to get the most I could, so I went to two other places to see what they would do. At the first place, they quoted me $550, the pawn shop they quoted me $460. Both times, I hinted aro
