Firestone Animal Hospital

On February 25, 2012, my 10 month old miniature pinscher named Monster jumped out of my car window while stopped and got hit by a passing car. I thought we lost him. Struggling to even get up due to his both front legs being almost completely destroyed, we rushed him to Firestone Animal hospital in Downey. It was our first time there and if it wasn't for a friend recommending that spot I don't know what i would have done. The moment we entered the hospital, with Monster bleeding in my arms, we were rushed into a room and Dr. Rocha came, saw, and started working on him instantly. He stopped the bleeding as much as he could and knew what to do. He was very calm and seemed very under control. His assistants were a great help through out the whole process. After a few hours of letting the anti shock treatment kick in, he told us what needed to happen. He was very honest up front and basically told us what he would need to do to save Monster's life and leg. A couple days in the hospital and some staples and stitches later we were able to take monster home:) He saved his life and leg! I know in no time our little mini pin will be running around like old times! Thank you Dr. Rocha and staff for your great professionalism and for caring for a very important person in my life. Since moving to Downey I insisted on going all the way back to the Westside for my three dogs' medical care for almost a 2 years...until I found this spot. The doctor is definitely more experienced and the hospital itself is very comforteable and accomodating- plenty of parking! My pets were treated wonderfully, and I was impressed by how smooth my visit went (its usually challenging going in with all three); explanations were thorough and the pricing is fair...a bit less than W Hollywood so I'm happy. When an establishment services well, I recommend it left and right; when its the opposite I do the opposite so here it is...RECOMMENDED!!! more

I simply love my pets. I don't mess around with their healthcare and I use only the best. I don't mind spending my money on them because they're my babies and I'm not looking for a deal, but I have a-lot of experience with finding the best of the best- whether restaurant, entertainment or healthcare- and this vet is simply the best. His experience is uncanny. His knowledge indispensable. As a foreigner, I have an accent as well, so I don't mind that this man has an accent. Besides, my Danes and dobies don't talk! I have used dr. Rocha on emergencies as well...extremely dependable. I am confident and even proud of the care my babies get. The staff is very very warm as well. Beautiful doctor and hospital! more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE... This place is a SCAM. They are overpriced and RUDE. Took my puppy here for her first shots. Vet was a rude, grumpy old man with no compassion for animals. He came in the room, mumbled a few words, gave my puppy a shot (which hurt her a lot, because she ""supposedly moved"") then left the room. His non-English speaking rude wife in the front sold us a flea shampoo for $32.00 that we later that day found somewhere else for $7.00. There was also another customer there complaining about something he had bought from this hospital that was triple the price compared to else where. Then the vet prescribes meds for my pet, when we asked his wife the name of the meds and she refused to tell us. Which clearly means that she didn't want us to check the price else where. The next day I called and the wife answered and I wanted to confirm the date and time of my pet's next appointment, since I didn't have the appointment card with me. She told me that I should have the card in handy and look there.... Are you kidding me? I told her that she should have the info in their system and she replied with a nasty giggle more

THIS PLACE WAS A RIP OFF ... HIM AND HIS WIFE RIP ME OFF OVER PRICED ... ON A FRIDAY AFTER NOON MY DOG BIT A NEIGHBORS DOG.. WE TOOK MY NEIGHBORS DOG TO HIM FOR AFTER HOURS SINCE OUR REGULAR VET WAS NOT HERE.. THE DR THERE DID SURGERY AND 1200 DOLLARS LATER THE DOG WAS FIXED, WELL COME TO FIND OUT WHEN WE TOOK MY NEIGHBORS DOG BACK FOR A CHECK UP TURNS OUT THE DR WANTED ANOTHER 400 DOLLARS TO FIX THE BOTCHED JOB HE DID THE FIRST TIME.... WE THEN WENT TO OUR REGULAR VET WHICH KNOWS THIS DR. AND BECAMING INFURIATED THAT HE CHARGE US 1200 FOR STICHES, OUR DR FIXED THE INJURY FOR ONLY 380.00 AND TOLD US THAT THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE REPAIRED BOTCHED SURGERIES FROM THIS DR. more

I have been going here for years now. My dog loves the atmosphere and always comes home in a good mood. Where other dog walkers/groomers treat their ""clients"" just as a meal ticket, Johnny and Ty truly take an interest in knowing and caring for the the dogs in their care. I recommend them to everyone who cares about their pet. You really get your money more

Our dog (chihuahua) wasnt eating she was very sad and she wouldnt want to move, she also puked and had an upset stomach..and we took her to a vet in our city and the dr. wasnt much help, we didnt know what to do..until a friend of ours recommended the firestone animal hospital...Dr. Rocha diagnosed our chihuahua with pyometra that day, the next day she had surgery and now shes back to her normal self. We're really grateful that we came across Dr.Rocha and his staff....there all very nice people. more

Our family has been clients of Dr. Rocha at Firestone Animal Hospital (FAH) since he was first located accoss the street from All American Home Center. The office has since moved and I continue using his services because they have always provided compassionate, caring and quality veterinarian services. As for the rates, they are comparable to other veterinarian hospitals. It was Oct. 2005 and our dog Chaco, a 9 lbs toy fox terrier was hit by a car. Chaco had serious trauma, collapsed lungs, internal bleeding and a fracture to his leg that looked like a million shattered pieces of glass on the X-ray. We immediately contacted FAH. Because it was after hours, the on call service referred us to a 24 hour ER Animal Hospital in Norwalk. Chaco spent the night in ICU and fortunately made it through that night. The next morning we transferred Chaco (after paying $1800 for a night in ICU) to FAH. Dr. Rocha was very honest as was the ICU in Norwalk and said the fractured leg may not be repairable. We asked for the alternative (surgery) accepting the risks fully explained by Dr. Rocha. Chaco had surgery to remove the pieces of shattered bone and insert a titanium replacement. We expected a 4-5 day inpatient recovery, but Dr. Rocha and his wife noticed Chaco was depressed after my visits and would not eat unless I would visit mid day during my lunch hour and hand feed him. Dr. Rochas wife even made Chaco home made chicken broth hoping to provide some nourishment. In the end, Dr. Rocha encouraged me to take him home after 3 days and provided specific directions on caring for him and a scheduled follow up visit a week after. Chaco is now 11 years old and runs and plays like the car accident never happened. His nickname is The Bionic Dog and we have Dr. Rocha to thank for that. I highly recommend Dr. Rocha, a skilled and professional veterinarian and surgeon. more

I feel like the reviews I have read below me are a completely different vet. My experience with this vet has been one of frustration! Not only have BOTH my dogs at different times been MISDIAGNOSED but when I found a new vet to take them to, Dr. Rocha's staff are not cooperating in turning over the medical records for my animals. The first time, I had to go in their office and cause a minor scene just in order to get one of the medical records turned over. My new vet has currently tried FIVE TIMES now to get them to turn over the records for my second dog. Is this even LEGAL??? more

They've got the most friendliest and profesional staff in the city of downey. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants the best for their pet. more

One of our main concerns when moving to Los Angeles was finding a family friendly, good vet. We have found Firestone to be just as good (and in some ways better) than our previous vet in Wisconsin more
