Best

I would rather go to Buffalo Wild Wings because it is cheaper, the sauces taste better, and they have boneless wings. This is a good place to get take out from and is worth going...

Worst

I was really excited about the opening of the new ""Fire on the Mountain"" on Burnside and 17th. I placed an order for takeout, and waited...and waited...and waited. And in the me...

Nasty chicken foot in with the wings! 12/3/2007

My husband went and picked up some wings to go last night and I still have the heebie jeebies from what he found in the box ... amidst his wings was a deep-fried, saucy chicken FOOT, claws/talons and all! It was disgusting to say the least and my poor husband immediately didn't feel well. I was eating something completely different and also lost my appetite. We would expect this type of carelessness/nastiness from the restaurant with the short shorts and white and orange t-shirts (apparently the spell checker here doesn't like the actual name of that restuarant - picky!) or any other tacky chain restaurant, but not from this little hole in the wall that so many people rave about. We have no affiliation to this restaurant and will not be back again. Pros: None. Cons: We had a chicken foot in our order - need we say more? more

licking for a kick-in 12/2/2007

Moved to Portland a year ago from the East and I searched and search, someone told me about ""Fire"" and I am so ""Grateful"" Spent the last 5 mo in Scotland and I can't wait to get my fix on the MNT. more

Worst Wings... Ever. 11/18/2007

I travel to the Portland area a few times a year on business and heard ""rave"" reviews about this place. On my first visit in May of 2007, I trudged on over and ordered a dozen of the peanut wings and 6 El Hefe and was told it would be a 15 minute wait. Nearly 40 minutes later some uber hipster with Buddy Holly framed glasses plopped down a tray of the most unappetizing wings I've seen in my life. They looked to be steamed and not fried and drowned in some weak peanut sauce. The first bite was horrible... Properly cooked wings should have a bit of a crunch to them and this was like biting into wet newspaper. I ate a few and tossed the rest in the trash. The El Hefe wings I will admit were very hot. I imagine the folks there try to hide the fact that they can't fry a wing by soaking the wings in sauce. Pros: Closing shop would be a pro. Other than that... None. Cons: Bad food, *very* lacksidasical service. more

Best Wings in Portland 7/19/2007

Most orders of wings in bars and taverns and restaurants these days are pretty gross. The drumettes are tiny and nasty tasting after processing and freezing and etc.The nasty sticky gooey sweet sauce is all you can taste and good thing too. They microwave rock hard wings and then dump gunk on them.Yummy. more

Great wings, cool staff 5/28/2007

It seemed like I was never going to find wings that could compare to East Coast wing joints. But I did - in Portland. The joint has many different wing sauce choices and you can even try before you buy. Our party dined on mild, medium and sweet BBQ. Also, the sweet potato fries were so good! The bar is small but very unique with an atmopshere fit for wingeaters. The beer was also great! We originally couldnt find the place, as it was a little outside town, but we are glad we kept on driving! more

Addicted 5/10/2007

Fire on the Mountain has awesome food, great beer. I am hooked on their wings and fries. However, it is tiny, and the prices seem high. Pros: Taste of wings Cons: Cost of wings more

A good spot 4/3/2007

Incredible sauces, awesome tater tots, wonderful buffalo chicken salad, decent wings, sweet tea...sloooowwww service, cool staff, reasonable prices Pros: every food item Cons: wait, come on, should it take THAT long? $5 pasta dish was so-so more

Slightly above average 1/15/2007

Went here for the first time the other day. As I entered, the wait staff passed me three times and never even made eye contact, let alone greeted me. Eventually I just grabbed a table, since apparently they didn't want to direct me to a specific spot. I then sat there 5-10 minutes, with again the wait staff passing me, until I noticed the sign above the register saying to ""order here."" I placed my order at the counter and the credit receipt had a big place to put in a tip. Since I seated myself, and had to place my order at a counter, I did not tip, which drew a noticeable reaction from the clerk. more

Amazing wings 7/30/2006

This place can cook a wing! The sauces are consistent, yummy, and generous. The peanut sauce is a divine gift, and I recently broke out of my routine and ordered the j.e.r.k. sauce, which was scrumptious (best with ranch instead of blue cheese dressing). The standard buffalo sauce will also rock your face off. Pros: Trivia cards on the tables, good iced tea, friendly staff more

Choose carefully 7/28/2006

I really have a hard time with spicy foods so when my boyfriend wanted to try it I was hesitant. We went to order and there were twelve different bbq sauces to try! So I dipped a celery stick in a couple and found they had mild good tasting sauces! Then of course really hot sauces! My boyfriend tried the hottest sauce- and literally almost turned red. The waitress and I both held our laughter to spare him the embarassment! Pros: lots of bbq sauces, good prices Cons: parking more

Finally Hot Wings in PDX! 7/16/2006

There are only a few things that I miss from the midwest...thunderstorms, fall and hot wings. Fire on the Mountain helped with one out of the three. It is great to have a hot wings place that also caters not only to the meat lover, but also the vegitarian with their meatless hot wings (so Portland). Pros: Great Wings, Great People, Board Games Cons: Small inside seating more

nothing special 6/7/2006

After reading all reviews on this place I had to try it,I noticed most reviews were about BBQ sauce and not much about true Buffalo style(hot).I tried all sauces and was not impressed with the heat level,Habanero sauce only burns and takes away flavorings of the food.I went with the ""soon to be famous"" spicey peanut sauce. It tasted o.k. but was too sweet and not spicey like Thai peanut sauce,as I hoped for.The service was great and friendly, but I got mine to go due to limited seating. There is no parkiing available and if you sit outside,be prepared for the busy street traffic on Interstate Ave. Pros: friendly service Cons: parking, street noise more

Wings of buffalo 6/5/2006

Was walking down the end of the drive, Pros: wings, tator tots Cons: too popular more

Finally, Great Wings 11/26/2005

I was so tired of Hooters and thier average wings. This place Rocks. The Spicy Peanut Sauce is excellent. The fries are awesome and you have to try the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. Highly recommeded. Small place, but well worth the visit. Pros: Food more

Great Wings! 10/19/2005

This place can't be beat. These wings are the best I've had (and I've tried lots). I like that you can mix/match the sauces for every 6 wings (and that you can sample them beforehand) My favorite sauce--extra hot. The El Jefe will bring you to your knees. If you're looking for something new, try the spicy peanut. Even the mild has heat--a requirement for true ""Buffalo Wings"". Service is a bit slow at times--and it can get crowded; but all in all well worth it. Pros: Sauce choice, Sweet Potato Fries Cons: seating, prices more

Yummy Wings!! Don't forget the great sides! 8/31/2005

We've been to Fire On the Mountain at least 5 times now. It is great. There is food for children to eat (noodles and yummy french fried sweet potatoes are my 2 yr old daughter's favorites). The wings are nice and crispy and flavorful. I love the sweet bbq...I could eat 2 dozen in one sitting if my body didn't yell STOP first! The atmosphere is pleasantly casual...brightly painted, clean, and no-nonsense. I definitely recommend checking it out! Pros: wing flavors Cons: parking more

Awesome place... 8/8/2005

This is the best place around Portland to have good wings. I myself watch my eating, but cannot stop eating the wings when I'm there... Not as fast as a regular wing place and you'll need to wait for your wings once you order. Sometimes it's really crowded and hard to find a place at the restaurant, but you can always take it home... I don't thing that it's that pricey... (It's not kfc or hooters, after all...) Pros: food, price Cons: service, availabilty more

SPECTACULAR!!! 7/31/2005

Best Hot Wings since Birmingham, Alabama. I HIGHLY recommend trying them! The fries are awesome as well! FINALLY...I found my calling!!! more

Finally damn good wings! 3/13/2005

I eat wings like nobody. I think I've tried them all in Portland- over cooked, under spiced, over priced, under cooked... I've finally found my new favorite spot in Portland to devour. (I think I eat there twice a week-scary) These folks can cook chicken. Forget dressing up, it's extremely casual and darn clean for a saucy meat joint. I think there's a selection of 10-15 types of wings. My fav being the sweet bbq. It's sorta pricey ($9-12pp), but then again good food is worth the extra $3 bucks. We crave their food and not the service (its a bit unenthusiastic.) But just go. Just try the food. We order it for take out. more
