Worst White-Person Spa I've Ever Been To 9/7/2011

I feel somewhat dishonest giving this place such a favorable rating with one star, when what it really deserves is zero. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had at a spa before, and especially one that seems to exude professionalism by its exterior. I am not one to fork out the cash for pricey manicure/pedicures, but seeing as I was getting married the next day and had our wedding dinner that night, I resolved that this was the ideal time to spend a little bit more on my nails. Granted, the technician that was doing my manicure was fully aware of the important upcoming events and continued to slosh the otherwise thick, gloopy O.P.I. sloppily across my fingernails to my shagrin. At first I figured, no need to worry! I've had french's before where they go back and tidy up a job that originally looked like it was executed by a four year old! But as time kept ticking (the manicure took over an hour, total), I quickly realized that my technician had no intention of going back and correcting the already-smudged, too-thick, bubbling white lines across the tips of my nails. On top of this, she finished out my otherwise juvenile manicure by slathering a coat of nude polish overtop the smudged white lines, which turned these lines a dirty, yellowish-brown hue. By the end of this time-intensive experience, I was escorted down into a cave that resembled an operating room, where the technician proceeded to coat my toenails in a polish that also immediately started to bubble. Although I had originally intended on having a french pedicure as well, I decided to go with a simpler request after seeing the mangled condition of my fingernails. I trudged out of the spa with my sloppy fingernails and toenails (after forking up a gift certificate for the pedicure and $30 for the manicure), only to meet my fiance who quickly directed me back inside to demand a refund. This may have been the only mildly-positive experience of the day - when one of the other technicians took me back into the room again and proceeded to remove all of the polish which had taken the other technician 2+ hours to apply. Unfortunately, the next application was not much better than the first, and was something that I could have easily done by myself, at home, for free - because the color that she applied looked like I didn't have any polish on my nails at all. She only refunded half of the manicure and wouldn't give me anything back for the pedicure. All in all this was a time-intensive, extremely overpriced, horrible-quality manicure/pedicure that I will NEVER return for, ever again. I could have easily done a better job myself, or paid $20 for a manicure at the local Vietnamese salon that would have lasted for a week and looked beautiful in the wedding pictures, when instead I had to resort to the worst white-person spa experience I've ever had. more

Hardly a spa 2/4/2010

Don't let the fancy building fool you.\r I decided to check it out, after driving by for years. I was not impressed at all.\r 1st- The lobby looked like a baby store with pink and blue packages everywhere.\r 2nd- I was escorted straight to the massage room. NO waiting/sitting/relaxing area. NO changing room w/robe. NO relaxing experience at all. I undressed and dressed in the room, and got a dixie cup of water after the massage. YOu can get the same experience at that franchise massage business, or the mom & pop strip mall joint. For much less money.\r I don't know what their definition of spa is, but it doesn't qualify for my definition. If you just want a massage, pay half the price somewhere else. If you want the whole relaxation experience, go somewhere else too. Cons: price too high for what you get more

Massage therapyst went tooo far! 7/21/2009

I had been a customer for 2 years.I trusted this person to help me with my mental well being as well as my physical. I am suppose to feel safe. Nurtured. This person touched me on the front part of what would be covered with a string bikini! It was not an accident and occurred several more times in the same session. I will never ever go there again and I have complained to the licensing board and the Finnish Touch Day Spa it self. That was the Finnish of that spa for me! Cons: Rubbed in front of what would b covered w/a string bikini!! more

Best Massages in Town and Maternity Massage 11/12/2008

I have been going to Finnish Touch for about 5 years. They give wonderful pedicures, facials and massages. I especially enjoy Meade's maternity massages right now. I feel like a million dollars when I leave there. I find everyone very professional and a very nice facility. If you want a wonderful, professional massage, go see Meade! I also recommend the Nap Day facial and pedicures! Pros: great staff, lovely atmosphere Cons: none! more

Awful service, not relaxing, dirty furniture. 11/10/2008

My daughter and I booked an hour massage there. We came in on a weekday, on time. We were led to a room where we waited for 15 minutes. No one offered us any water, tea or anything. The couches which are an off white canvas showed the dirt where peoples feet were. We were never offered robe or slippers or even shown where the showers or restrooms were. \r I've had many massages before and this was the absolute worst service I have ever experienced. So after our massages, we had to put our clothes on our oily bodies in the massage room! I don't think it's very sanitary to have to be barefoot in a spa.\r When we went back to the front desk to pay, they took our money and dissapeared. We had questions about this entire debacle but after waiting for 10 minutes, no one ever came back to the front desk. \r My daughter and I will never go back to such a sad, dirty, lousy place. Pros: none! Cons: Unclean, no service, no ambience. more

No compassion! 5/8/2008

I remember when ""The Finnish Touch Day Spa"" was across the street from their current location, and they were just beginning. They were humble and kind. Now that their business has grown, AND so has their rudeness! I will never return to this spa, and I have turned down their Christmas Party for years. The last time I attended this spa, was when I was given a $50 gift certificate. I made an appointment for a manicure. I was 10 minutes late to my appointment, after speeding across town, from my difficult job at the hospital. When I ran into the spa, they sharply told me I was too late for my appointment! I looked at my cell phone, and exclaimed, "" I am only 10 minutes late, is there anything you can do?"" The girl behind the counter looked at me, as if I were the most disgusting person in the world, and then looked at the clock, and said, "" You are THIRTEEN minutes late! I guess all I can do for you, is throw some nail polish on you!"" After that, I placed the $50 gift certificate on the counter and walked out, WITHOUT using it. I have since been spending my hard earned money on spas that appreciate my business. I use this experience whenever I treat one of my patients at the hospital. I make sure to treat my ""business"" with care and compassion. Pros: NONE! more

Amazing Facial! 4/28/2008

I got my first ever facial here recently and it was a wonderful experience: incredible relaxing and soothing. Kate, the esthetician, was terrific and my skin looked the best it's ever looked afterwards. Highly recommended! more

Most Luxurious facial in town! 3/21/2008

""This high end Day Spa truly lives up to it's reputation. I've made the rounds of all the Day Spa's in the Salt Lake area and always end up back at The Finnish Touch. The staff is well educated and experienced. Especially Monica who is the esthetician that I am now seeing monthly, Her facials are truly heavenly! As well as her spa pedicures and expert brazilian waxing! I drive all the way from Park City. I highly suggest this Spa. The retail of the spa is excellent as well...One stop shopping! They have everything & more that you could possibly need for your skin concerns. (Face & Body.) If you love to be pamperd this is your place, look no further! Other nearby spas pale in comparison."" more

Relax, go to it......... 11/14/2007

Great facials, great art and product mix. Mostly, I love the ""I dream of Jeannie"" relaxation room! Very professional staff. Pros: EVERYTHING more

Deep-Poor Cleansing is very good but careful of those extractions 9/9/2007

I had the deep-poor cleansing facial. The place is gorgeous and clean. The esthetician was lovely and knowledgeable. Among other things, she did an enzyme peel on my acne-prone skin. It was great; it made my face feel so smooth. The only thing I wish is that I hadn't asked for extractions of the many dormant comedones on my face and jawline. The extractions seemed to go very well, but two days later my skin is very broken out and doesn't feel like it's going to stop soon. So, while I do recommend this facial and this spa in general, I suggest skipping the extractions if you are acne-prone. Pros: Great customer service, wonderful ambience more

excellent 11/29/2006

I'd recommend this place to anyone. I have a habit of trying out new things and different places, but i think it's now time to settle down. I found the spa I can truely call MY spa. I go everywhere; I try all types of spas, boutique spas, big and small. I'm accustomed to a higher level of treatment and expertise, and the finnish touch goes above and beyond. Many of my friends have told me to go, and finally i did. I don't know what i was waiting so long for. You should probably stay away, I don't want to have to wait too long to get my weekly fix. more

gorgeous and elegant 10/30/2006

I'm shocked at the last reviewers vicious distain over her last hairdo. I find that Bethany is quite accomplished. I find it hard to find someone who really understands my hair, and how i like it. She does a tremendous job, and is worth every penny. I love going to the Finnish Touch and I love how well they treat me. I refer EVERYONE there, and because of that, I even find them buying me gift certificates wrapped up in their delightful pyramid packages. The Finnish Touch is the best gift. ABSOLUTELY GO THERE Pros: professional, low turn-over, wonderful owner and management team Cons: aren't more places like this more

Awesomely Great! 7/24/2006

I absolutely love going to this spa. The Staff has always been very warm and inviting. They, hand down, have the best Pedicures in town. I've been getting Facials there for over a year now, and let me tell you. The girl request is very, very talented. I've never felt SO taken care of in a facial until I came to her. I highly recommend this spa and thank them for making it above and beyond what I ever expected. Pros: Highly Trained Staff, Location, Friendly Cons: Gets busy more

Very Rude! 7/7/2006

I had a $50 gift certificate to The Finnish Touch Day Spa, so I scheduled a manicure, and within the first 5 minutes, the girl was so rude, I had to get up and discontinue the manicure. I was so incensed, that I actually gave her the gift certificate anyway, indicating that I would be NEVER comming back because of her rudeness. (I guess I cannot go into detail about what happened and the girls name, because of the review rules of citysearch but it was BAD!) It was extremely sad that the service has declined so severely because we had been friends with the owner for 20 years, even when she was located across the street. Now, we decline every party invitation they send us. It's really a shame. I'd rather spend my money on a better day spa, and the better day spas, would rather have me spend my money on them too! more

Perfection! 4/4/2006

I came with a friend, girls day out. We spent the entire day at the spa. (Actually, we skipped out for a while to get lunch and catch a movie, but decided what better way to end the day, then the way we began it). We started off with their phenomenal Spa pedicures manicures and Facials, and ended up coming back for Full body salt glow, Full body seaweed masks, and unbelieveable massages, side by side. We're definitely making this a yearly ritual (atleast!). The staff is definitely highly skilled and pleasant. Finnish Touch has a great reputation and continually elevates to exceptional standards. I highly recommend them. Pros: fun, energizing, easy to book Cons: get's busy more

Not happy 3/15/2006

Went with a friend to get facials/massages. We both ordered the same deal. Comparing notes later, I was charged more & did not receive full package. Repeatedly notified clinician that I break out easily. I called back days later to get over charge refund & because face & neck were horribly broken out. I asked for manager to call back, instead, the clinician I saw called back (awkward!) & asked why I was unhappy. She was extremely dismissive. Named products I could purchase on my own that might help. Told me impurities were being cleared & that's what I should have expected. I had a vacation planned & ended up not going because my skin was so embarrassing. Pros: Good parking Cons: Pricing inconsistency, Indifferent staff more

wonderful 2/16/2006

I love love LOVE this spa! I can't tell you how much I enjoy my time there. The staff is always friendly and inviting. I've known Sinikka for years. She is and has been a highly recognizable name in her industry, known for her avant-garde craft. I go to spas quite frequently when i'm out of town (which happens to be quite a bit for my work) and seldomly do they live up to the high standards The Finnish Touch Day Spa brings time and time again. I've been a loyal client for years, and will be for years to come. Pros: prices for Cons: not open sundays more

Always good, without pretention or too much fluff 1/4/2006

This is undoubtedly the best spa in the state, if not absolutely one of the best in the country. I've been going there for years, and have tried out several others that spring up around the city. They're all nice; they don't seem to have the essense the Finnish Touch brings time and time again. My skin always feels rejuvenated and it definitely glows as promised. I Get the microdermabrasion once a month. I'll always go back Pros: good price, friendly staff, great products more

Pleasant experience and good service! 5/2/2005

I came to visit Finnish Day Spa the day before my wedding with my bridemate. We had very pleasant and relax time. The service was excellant. I enjoyed the visit and really loved the store. The atmosphere over all is very pleasant, relax, and soothing. I highly recommended to my friends to this spa. more

Roots 12/15/2003

I went to the Finnish Day Spa to get my hair woven and banish my roots. When I got home and examined my hair I found a darker shade of blonde neer the roots and I still have 1/4 inch dark roots. I will never go back. more
