What a truly awful experience this salon was!! I and my hair have still not recovered. After moving away from a stylist I have had for years, I had to find one in my area.I decided to go to what I assumed was an ""upper level"" salon where I would gladly pay more. I did research online and made an appointment to go after work, approximately 2 weeks in advance. I chose a ""master stylist"" as they have their stylists priced differently based on their ability. When I got to the salon, they told me the girl who was supposed to cut my hair had to go somewhere...sorry! Finally they found someone in the salon who could squeeze me in, as the majority of the stylists just stood within earshot saying ""No, I'm not doing it!"". This ""stylist"" if you want to call her that, then proceeded to flat iron my hair for over an hour! Now most of us know that by the time someone is done with that, your hair will look fabulous!! Then she cut it, no shampoo, no water, no nothing. I brought in pictures of the cut I wanted. I'm sure none of them showed someone with two, totally different lenghts of hair, completely unblended. I look like someone put a bowl over my head and cut halfway through my hair and then left a long layer underneath!! Then when it was time to pay, I found out this girl was the most inexpensive stylist in the salon...for good reason! My hair is not naturally straight either, so unless I have my hair professionally straightened every morning for an hour, it looks ridiculous! I cannot wear it down anymore and I fear that I will have to cut it short to correct it. I work in a professional atmosphere and definately do not look that way with my hair in a pony tail! I contacted the salon and sent feedback to their website to let them know this and ask if someone could re-cut it as I did not want to pay another salon to fix their mess. I got no response. In my 38 years of life, THIS IS THE WORST HAIR CUT I HAVE EVER HAD..and by reading these reviews, I'm not the only one!\r Pros: They have good coffee...that's it!! I could go to Starbucks for that! I used to go to Joe Hamer when my favorite stylist moved here,but I returned a year later to try and find a new stylist once mine had moved,I had the worst salon experience of my life! Id asked for the best colorist and was referred to Regina.She seemed irritated when I asked for her suggestion on a new color/cut,and unprofessionally gossiped about celebs and others to her co-workers.The worst part was that I asked for a swept bangs and said the length to the middle of my eye and even raised my finger at the level to demonstrate where I wanted them. She took two snips and gave me a blunt bangs in the middle of my forehead! Anyone with bangs knows a bad bangs is disasterous and with fine hair if it's too short if flies up in the wind! I paid and left but when I got to my car where I could get a mirror and view the back (since I wasnt offered one) and sides I could see how poorly done my hi's & layers were,and while smoothing down my freshly butchered bangs i decided i didnt want to wait for it to grow out to be a cute haircut,&after dropping nearly $300 (an extra100 for long hair) I would call back and ask for a redo with another stylist.The receptionist was incredibly rude, he told me I would have my hair evaluated by several stylists and they could determine if it was a bad cut, then I could only have the same stylist do it again.If Im not happy with a person's service I will not be returning to them to fix it.I should mention ive worked at hair salons before and I know how these situations should be handled. I didnt even want a refund, I very kindly asked to have it fixed. He copped a huge attitude and began asking me then why i would have even paid for the service. He even said it was my fault my bangs were cut tooshort bc bangs are cut in increments, well they should but mine weren't. I havent complained about service before, but this was such terrible experience I will be traveling to the city to avoid this level of unprofessionalism. I wandered into Joe Hamer Salon and just happened to find Regina! She made my blonde highlights actually blonde, not yellow or brassy. She listens to what I want and has an amazing way of making it happen! She makes me feel so comfortable that I would let her try anything with my hair.\r Everybody at this salon is truly friendly and welcoming. If you need a wax (anywhere) Laura is great! First, this place looks like the most sophisticated of San Francisco salons, so going in you feel confident that you'll have a great time. My haircut was fabulous (Justine, you are a marvel!); Patrick got rid of the grey and gave me a great mop of browns and caramels that are bright and hip and are still appropriate for the staid law office I work in. Laura, the esthetitican, is wonderful. She understood what I meant by ""natural eyebrows"" and gave them to me; so far I've had a facial (fab) a chemical peel (great) and am in the middle of micro-current therapy, which is smoothing away my collection of fine lines. Caitlin, their make-up professional, did my face the afternoon before an anniversary and left my ""mature"" face looking great -- and taught me stuff about make-up that I have been using daily since, although the next time I have a major event to celebrate, I know who will be making me look good for it!\r \r These people make me look fifteen years younger, and feel that way too. At my work the woman all go to Joe Hamer so I finally cut the knot with my previous salon. I have never seen anybody cut hair the way he does. He is like a magician. My highlites are placed totally different than before. Love it!!!!!!!! Never have I seen so many friendly and beautiful people in one place. This was for sure the best 2 hours I spent at a solon. I visited this salon because of all my girlfriends recommendations. I really wasnt expecting much but what I received was beyond average. At Joes salon I was truly treated like a celebrity. I had been living in the City and moved to Petaluma and had been looking all over for a salon that could compete with what the City has. I went to Jo Hamer and got my haircut it was great. Confident that they could highlight the same and wax I was quickly disappointed. The women doing my eyebrows had thin eyebrows of her own but expecting that she would go to the shape of my face and brow she would not make them small and thin. SHE DID!!!! They looked very bad. The highlights were not natural looking and the colors did not go with my skin tone. This might work for a 20 something but when you are in your 30s and a professional this DOES NOT WORK IT LOOKS CHEAP AND TACKY!! DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!! I have always had short hair and it's been really hard to find a good stylist. The receptionist here recommended Patrick for my haircut and it was the best I've ever had. Other stylists have left me looking like a boy, but he's mastered short, fun, AND feminine. He's also an amazing colorist, he did beautiful peacock colors on my hair and classic blond hilights on my mom. Great energy and totally fun to spend a few hours with. I have been searching for a one stop salon where I could get my hair and my facials and waxes done. Joe Hamer Salon is the place. Laura gives the BEST facials ever. She uses great products and is funny and friendly. Her neck and shoulder massages are to die for. She has different waxes that she uses on different body parts and is safe and quick. You won't find anyone better. Thank you, Laura. Justine is great at giving over the top care in making my hair the perfect color and the best cut. My fiance and I had a red carpet event to attend. I have been going to Joe Hamer for years, but this was the first time my fiance had been. They were great, sad for her old salon, while we were there I found out they also did makeup, never having needed that service myself. Caitlin a wonderful young lady was very helpful she did a fantastic job on my fiance and was very helpful. I definitely recommend Joe Hamer, and I highly recommend Caitlin. If you're ever in Petaluma you should try them out. more
