We went to Filbert's a year ago while on an end of summer trip from Vancouver BC to the Oregon Coast. The food was inspired, yet simple and well prepared. No sashimi with yak bu...

I did a google search to find the best pork chops in portland -- I'm a fanatic -- and Filbert's got the most hits. So I went to their website and...this restaurant is no more. Clo...

It is GREAT 5/12/2006

A little off the beaten path but the food was great. We brought guests from out of town and everyone loved the food. I came for the bread pudding - it was the very best bread pudding. Pros: food, easy parking, perfect to talk Cons: none more

Excellent Northwest Cuisine! 4/30/2006

What a great new restaurant! It's lovely inside; casual and elegant. Service is friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable. And, the food is fabulous!!! The lamb shank was the most delicous and the largest portion that I've had anywhere. Prices for both food and wine are reasonable based on the quality and the selection for both is excellent. We can't wait to go back. Pros: incredible food, great service, lovely ambiance more

Bright Future Predicted 4/29/2006

Dinner was very well prepared. Somehow our order got lost and no one noticed til the chef came out. However they were very apologetic and comped our desserts. Classy recovery. Fish was perfectly translucent. Lamb Shank would have been cooked a little longer but our delayed entree's may have been rushed. Very pleasent dining room. Finally a subtle lighting restauarant where you can still read the menu. Desserts were wonderful. They need an expresso machine however. Worth a repeat visit. Pros: Pleasant staff, Great dessert Cons: Noisy when full more

Fabulous Food! 4/23/2006

This restaurant has wonderful northwest dishes that will delight everyone who dines. We had some wonderful starters and the best pork and lamb, which were good sized portions, along with some tasty Northwest wines. The owner/chef is personable and enjoys feedback on this newly opened restaurant. We will be dining there with friends, family and with our business associates. The service was exceptional and the staff very friendly and waiting to service your requests. We absolutely loved this restaurant!!! more

Wonderful 4/13/2006

This place is a true find. We discovered they have only been open since November '05 which explains the lack of reviews. The food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. Our party of four had the curry carrot cauliflower soup to start and it was excellent. Our sampling of entrees for dinner included steak, lamb shank and pork chops. They were all tender, moist and flavorful and each was complimented with unique sides dishes which added to our enjoyment of the meal (celery mash, red cabbage, goat cheese polenta, etc.). The earlier reviews and comments regarding the great atmosphere, timely and friendly service, and passionate staff/hostess/chef were all consistent with our experience. Pros: Menu/Food, Service/Staff, Atmosphere Cons: None more

Paragon of service 3/16/2006

Filbert's puts all those restaurants who think an ornery and inattentive waitstaff is somehow charming to shame; their server, hostess, and chef/owner were all extremely welcoming and obviously passionate about their restaurant. The wine list is perfectly suited to their NW-oriented menu, highlighting our region's wonderful pinots and providing a nice range from extremely reasonable to very high-end wines. Our dinners were excellent, but the banana tart we ordered for dessert was incomparably stellar. Pros: great service, local foods, community-oriented more

a nice find... 3/11/2006

The restaurant is in what appears to be an old house that was renovated. Never the less, the interior is actually quite nice. I started with the arugula salad- which was absolutely amazing. The goat cheese and sweetened pecans worked well together. For my entree I went with the cod- which was pan seared and served atop a bed of white beans and spinach, seasoned with a mustard sauce- again- they hit the ball out of the park. For dessert I had the bread pudding, arguably the best I've ever had. Pros: reasonably priced, nice atmosphere, good service more

Good food, gracious and friendly service. 3/5/2006

When my steak turned out a bit more cooked than I liked, it was immediately returned to the kitchen, and came back perfect. Plus they took that meal off the tab. Can't beat the service here. It's friendly, it's professional, it's prompt. The food was excellent, as well. Filbert's is well worth a visit. Pros: Great service, Good food, Nice ambience, deck Cons: parking across, a busy street more

  • In Short
The comfortable dining room glows with mustard-orange walls, fir floors, a luminous copper ceiling and white-clothed tables topped with purple napkins. It's accented by large French doors leading to an outdoor deck. Locals enjoy an oft-changing menu with fresh, Pacific Northwest ingredients: wild mushroom soup with garlic-leek custard, Toten Inlet mussels in white wine cream and a grilled Carlton Farms pork chop with braised red cabbage. Even the Southern chocolate chess tart boasts a hazelnut crust.
