OH... MY... GOD! 10/12/2011

The flavors that came out the kitchen literally made me cry! The thought put into the combinations of flavors and textures were well thought out and it gave my boyfriend and I mouthgasms! ONE thing I don't like on the menu is this thing with eggplant and radishes and this fishy gross dip in a little bowl... Can't remember the name... My boyfriend didn't mind it too much, and he is generally the more picky between the 2 of us... BUT I COULD NOT STOMACH THAT DIP/PASTE. Everything else is a culinary delight!!!!!!! :O) more

so disappointed 1/9/2011

Actually bartender & host were more than friendly, but after a long wait, ordered & then an incredibly long wait for the food - we were all so disappointed! The first burger came raw, the replacement was better - but had anemic tomato slice (they should know better, or just leave off)! The Whole Pig Sunday brunch item was almost a joke - 4/5 fatty pieces of pork ( I know its suppose to have fat, but not 50%) with good scrambled eggs, but the bok choy side was so overly sauced and drifted into the eggs unfortunately. The brisket sandwich the best, but a small portion. Maybe a substitute chef today? more

Unpleasant Bartender lacking hygene 11/20/2010

Is there no way to give a bar no stars. I met my wife and her friend at this bar the other night. Ordered a Martini and, as most Martini drinkers are, was particular about how my drink should be made. The bartender was incredibly rude and pulled an attitude slamming things around the bar. This was noticed by the couple sitting next to us as well. they seemed to draw back in fear. He then goes on to make drinks by cracking ice in his bare hands. The Martini was barely drinkable. Actually salty ugh. When we left the owner met us at the door and apologized and said he was going to speak with the bartender as he saw what was going on. Well we won't be back and we won't be recommending this place to any of our friends. And by the way if the owner reads this I would take a look at the hygiene of your bartenders. Not only disgusting but illegal. more

BBQ infestation crosses the bridge 5/27/2010

Yes, many a BBQ place has opened here in New York in the past few years. This place not only puts an Asian spin on their sides, completely bypassing the traditional sides of yummy starch we are all so accustomed to. Bonus: They. Have. Smokers! They have a patio out under the Willamsburg Bridge that will play host to these wonders of meat preparation. If for some unknown reason you have not had smoked meats... GET THERE. I ordered the chicken, to say it was amazing seriously does not begin to describe it. It's preparation, stellar. Insanely juicy. Smokily delectable. Succulent. So very very good. Don't forget the delish cocktail convections. Take a cue (sorry) from their menu, you will not be disappointed. Pros: SMOKERS!! Cons: More reasons to have to spend time out in Hipsterville more

smoky delicious 4/19/2010

i went to fatty cue last night and watched as they were pulling a whole smoked pig out of their smoker. the bartender made me a somewhat spicy and acidic cocktail with rum and told me how this whole smoked pig deal is a regular occurrence at fatty cue. i had no idea how long they had been open and i guess it's only 3-4 weeks, but wow! i ate ribs, 3 huge tender ribs dripping with a smoky sauce and then a brisket that changed my impression of brisket altogether. I have been to fette sau in the hood and other bbq joints in town, and I have never had the lean part of the brisket cooked to such tenderness. Usually all you want is the fatty part of the brisket but at fatty cue you can eat both with equal enjoyment. The waitstaff was so friendly, the owner was there on sunday running between the kitchen and playing with his son (who was face deep in some ribs too). This is the way Brooklyn should be, intimate, great food, great prices (people must be high when they mention that the food is overpriced) and great people having fun. It's addictive! Pros: great balance of flavors...not what you'd excpect Cons: the outdoor seating won't be ready for another 2 weeks more

'Cue Cravings 4/19/2010

So a few of us went to check out the hype of another Fatty place--omg, it's off the charts. Way better than I ever imagined barbecue could be though i admit I was a little confused at first. It's barbecue in the slow smoked sense, but the flavors are complex yet clear--not gooped with sauce, masking the meat flavor. Pros: incredible flavors, no-attitude staff Cons: Can't be there every night more

fatty cue, just as amazing as fatty crab! 4/18/2010

went to fatty cue last night for the first time and love love loved it! i'm a fan of fatty crab, so i was pretty sure i'd enjoy it, and as expected, zak pelaccio and co. did not disappoint. Pros: amazing food, good atmosphere Cons: pretty crowded more

who new bbq could be so good? 4/13/2010

i went to fatty cue because I had read Frank Bruni's twitter stating how awesome the food was. The space is really cool...no sign yet, bu the told me they're working on it. The front room has a copper wall and a venetian plaster ceiling that reflects the lamps that are attached to the bar. Very cool effect. The menu reads like a flavorful fantasy for lover of meat...and fish! This, I quickly learned, was no regular bbq joint. The meats are all smoked and served as composed plates. A beautiful pork tenderloin is sliced thin and served at room temp with a n herb salad and smoked fish mayo. Mixed together it was a pure delight. The chicken was tender and smoky and served with a sweet, sour and spicy sauce that just set it off. I also had the best dish of clams I have ever tasted, cooked with curry leaves and there own smoky bacon. I had a couple of cocktails and then we ordered a bottle of Champagne...they have the coolest little champagne list, and let me tell you, champagne, bbq, and those vibrant flavors made me happier than I have been in a restaurant in a long long time. I'm going back later this week it's so good. Oh, and if it weren't for the Champagne, the meal would've been a real bargain...I read some folks complaining on other sites about the cost. These guys are charging next to nothing for what they're putting out...I wouldn't waste my time getting over there, that's for sure. Pros: perfectly cooked meats with innovative flavors Cons: i don't live next door more

So worth the trip 4/6/2010

I hopped on the L to Fatty 'Cue and is was well worth the 15 minutes I spent on the subway. After a long day at work it felt like i was going out of town as i walked down Bedford Street to South 6th. I smelled the smoke from blocks away so I knew I was in the right place. Love the mackerel, the brisket, the red curry duck and the big ben cocktail. Will be back for more time and time again, and i found the place to be a great value. So much great food for less than $40 per person. Pros: great fish and brisket and strong cocktails Cons: Hipsters more

Citysearch Editorial Review 3/24/2010

Zak Pelaccio made a name for himself cooking inventive Southeast Asian cuisine at his Fatty Crab restaurants in the West Village and Upper West Side. His first Brooklyn restaurant, located on an industrial strip near the Williamsburg Bridge, has a more casual vibe and concept, as befits the neighborhood. Hickory smokers churn out Asian-inflected barbecue--such as Wagyu beef brisket with chili jam, coriander bacon, red curry-rubbed duck and pork spare ribs with Indonesian peppers--to a laidback crowd chatting in the copper- and exposed brick-lined dining room. A sizable bar in front serves specialty cocktails and two other floors are decorated with cute and quirky prints. more
