Farmington Steak House

Greasy but large steaks served with baked potato and bread. The menu, which has daily specials, has other items, but not many. The five stars are for the prices, the portions and ease of self-serve. Basically, Farmington Steak House is exactly like the Best Steak Houses that have been around the Twin Cities for several decades, and with a similar menu. The prices are low and the service friendly. I would hesitate to call the shelves full of cars and other decorations ""ambience"", but it has character for a greasy spoon. more

This place is my 2nd most favorite place to eat in the Twin Cities. (1st being The Willow Gate in Roseville ) If you are looking for a romantic night out at a ""fine steak house"" this is not the place. This is however the place to go on a regular basis if you enjoy hearty portions for an unheard of price these days. They also have daily specials that make it even cheaper, (Tonight is the Sirloin Steak, Tuesday.) There are no waiters, you order at one end and walk along the ""lunch counter"" picking up items and putting them on your ""tray"" and you pay at the end. (Remember, cash or check only.) It is family owned and we are lucky enough to know one of the owners daughters. If you are looking for an affordable night out with an almost obscene portion of food, I highly suggest The Farmington Steak House. Just don't expect waiters, or fine linens. My husband and I went to the Farmington Steakhouse based on many of these rave reviews. Clearly, people have different expectations of what constitutes an enjoyable dining experience. If you want a lot of food for a small price, then you will like Farmington Steakhouse. If you prefer quality over quantity, a clean and well-maintained atmosphere, and patrons under an average of 300 lbs, then you will not like Farmington Steakhouse. (Alright, that was a little cruel. But it was true!!!) The line staff was friendly. I could see the possibility of getting a pretty good cheeseburger. Steak quality was low. If you want great food,great service for a great price this is the place to go. It's real home cooked food with the family friendly style enviroment. The steak was done just the way you asked it, and the chicken was very moist and the amount of fries is a meal by itself and the toast is to die for. Have moved all over MN and no matter where we go, we always end up going to the Farm, steakhouse at some point, we are regulars and the owners are friendly/ Great food, large potions for the little price. 5 people can eat for $20, where can you find that? First I must say Steakmeister is an idiot. Fatmington Steakhouse is one of the best places I've ever found. Ok so they charge for sourcream and doggybags. The salad in bankrupt. However, he forgot to mention that soda is under $1 and its free refills. The stack of fries is a meal in itself. The steak is a lil' fatty; but it great. Cooked perfectly! It's gotta be at least 14oz. And mind you the Chicken is great to. The lunch line gives it a hometown old school vibe. Also old people, I dont know what hes talking about. I go there with alot of my young friends and it great for familys on a budget. A fully fixed cheeseburger: onions, lettuce, tomato n all for $2.99. Did I mention its huge. Staff was very friendly, but the steak quality was without a doubt the worst I've ever had (and I've had my fair share of steak) . Quite the shady operation, soup kitchen / elemtary school style grab a tray and walk the line....they charge 28 cents for sour cream as well as take out boxes. Steak was terrible, salad was wilted, potato was good.. Seems to maintain a healthy clientell of mainly older generation folk, nearby table conversations consisted of broken hips, stairway falls, and other body part replacements. We used to live in Apple Valley and frequented the Farmington Steakhouse. Even now, even though we live a 120 miles away, we still love coming up here for a great meal and good prices. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

The Farmington Steak House is a wonderful place. You get lots of food for a very decent price. This place is great for families. You can expect to come in hungry and leave full everytime. The Farmington Steak House is a great restaurant for everyone. more
