I have been in the fish hobbyfor over 25 years...I have seen fish shops come and go...this shop is a rarity...a real hobbist store...started by real fish people...I am delighted to say it is within a few miles of my home...I'd drive hours to get there...Novices may find it a bit frustrating - it's not a Petsmart (thank the fish gods). I have never had a negative experience upon coming to the store. The owners Chris and Dale are very knowledgeable and helpful and seem ecstatic when it comes to sharing their knowledge and fish love. The last time I was at the shop Dale discovered one of his crayfish were ready to release its young and he was very very thrilled to be able to share that with everyone there. Prices are very fair and they have more freshwater fish than any other place I've ever been to. They always seem to have something I want and I always seem to be recommending them to everyone I come across! A wonderful place to go to if your looking for anything that's hard to find or rare or even the common they have it! more

Very nice store! has a big viriety of both salt and fresh water fish. Very manerd and helpful people. Will deffently make sure your tank is ready for fish. not only fish sold, there is also some what of shrimp. and may order fish for you if they have none in stock. more

I tried Fantastic Fins on Monday, March 08, 2010 and upon entering the store, walked around for a half hour before being approached by a tall skinny guy. He looked very aggitated, like I was disrupting him. I asked a question in regards to the community fresh water tank I care for at a local high school, in hopes that I could employ Fantastic fins to care for the tank, but instead the tall skinny man made me feel terrible about the care I had been employing thus far. I have never been insulted like that from a business, especially one that was recomended to me by a colleage at another school. I am posting this blog to let everyone know that Fantastic Fins is not a friendly, professional place to buy fish. If you like being insulted, and treated like garbage, then this is the place for you. P.S. The best variety of Cory Cats in the Detroit area, Many rare species that only they have. They answer any and all questions and are friendly and helpfull. Other stores send you here for certain fish. I love Fantastic Fins and the two wonderful guys who own and operate the store. It is rather small but has a large variety of wonderful looking fish presented very well and clean. The staff is friendly, informative, honest and are truly fish lovers. The prices are very fair and sometimes negotiable. They even have some used items available once in a while.I recommend the store to all my friends. more

I spent hours in this store and as the others here stated, they have a terrific supply of fresh and salt water fish. The sea horses are so cute!!! There is no question they can't answer, no problem they can't fix, should you have some fish that are in need of remedy. The owners have some changes coming in the near future, they are expanding into adjacent retail space, which will more than double their current space. If you are looking for stingrays, this is your place. Just the most amazing RARE types of species you can find. We're talking species that have no name just letters and numbers. I had no idea that fresh water fishes from around the world came in such brilliant colors and originality. I can just spend hours on end in this place. Highly recommended!!! more

Just checked this place out. All I can say are these guys are doing it right. This place is for the fish lover. Whether you are a beginner looking for the common or into the latest & exotic they have it. They have both fresh water and marine. The store is small in size but I haven't seen the variety in stores 3 and 4 times the size. And I might add - the fish look as well cared for and healthy as the best places. A true store for the hobbyist looking for something out of the ordinary and the raw beginner trying to figure out the basics. more

This place has tons of parking and the store itself is small in my view. The guys that own the place are really nice and helpful when you need it. They had really cool items for saltwater and the prices are about the same as any others. The tanks are clean and the fish look in good shape. more
