Famous Subs & Pizza

Customer Service of the night time waitstaff leaves a lot to be desired. This is the 2nd time with the same crew, that I have had this experience. No refills, busy worrying about their social life behind the counter, no friendly smiles or caring attitudes; as if they really could careless about being there. Food is great overall, the day time crew is usally great, but the early 20 year olds that are on the waitstaff at night, need to be taught customer service skills. It is the simplest things that could make a world of difference for this restaurant. We have been coming since the 80's and over the years and especially here lately, the service has gone down hill. more

I have eaten at Famous for the past 2 years, since I moved to Southport, NC. This is the best food in town; everything from the calzones to the fried chicken is AMAZING. The service is great, especially since they have changed up the waitstaff. I realize that some people have gotten bad service from the posts that I have seen, but I haven't personally experienced anything first hand. I have always had a great experience with the waitstaff and the cooks. The waitstaff will sit down and take your order, they are very personable. The cooks even bring out your food occasionally to go the extra mile to connect with you. I personally like the fact that it is family owned and operated. You won't walk in without an owner or family member being around. For those who don't know or haven't been there, they would realize that the "owner" who they were talking about that wasn't looking them in the eye has a glass eye because of an accident as a kid. Food is great, however, last visit was the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered. My wife and I have eaten here at least once a week for over a year and have never had an issue until last night. \r My wife ordered a greek salad and a cheese steak. She wanted a to go box along with the salad because she can never eat the whole thing. Order was placed and then we notice our waitress walk across the parking lot to the drug store. I assumed she was on a break and had passed us off to another co-worker...WRONG. In the meantime the salad never came. When she came back from the drug store, our sandwiches were up. She brought our sandwiches and didn't notice my wife had not received her salad. At that point my wife told her she didn't want the salad, she snatched the ticket up angrily , handed it to another waitress and that was the last we heard from her at our table. Famous is great for pizza and subs and is one of the places my coworkers and I continue to go back to for lunch. I've never had their fried chicken, but my coworkers seem to think pretty highly of it. It's definitely not a place you'd go on a date, but it's a great lunch destination. The food is relatively cheap and the service is always prompt. My only real gripe is that it's not smoke-free, but that will be fixed once HB2 goes into effect on 1/2/2010.
