my co worker has been trying to get me to try this place and i'm so glad i did. i use to eat at the royal cafe in san jose which had the best persian food in town. bar none famous kabab is even better. great flavor in the beef kabobs.egg plant appetizer was delicious. but the rice is out of this world. i can eat the riice alone. they spice it with a nice saffron flavor. great service adds to the wonderful experience. Pros: best rice in the world Cons: i can't stop eating more

Famous Kabobs made me have a foodgasm 2/21/2008

My husband and I happened into Famous Kabobs one Friday night in the mood to try something different. It was fabulous! We've been back twice and have never been disappointed. The waiter made excellent suggestions the first time we went. I haven't liked the taste of lamb in the past, but these little lamb chops were superb! They melted in my mouth like butter! The basmati rice with fresh saffron is delicious, and the salad has a fabulous vinaigrette that's not too overpowering. On our most recent visit, I tried the boneless/skinless chicken kebab.... I have to say, it was the best chicken I've ever had. I highly recommend this place for atmosphere, cleanliness, service, and delightful meals. They're a little pricey but SO worth it. Spend the money, try this place. If you don't like it, either you went in on a bad day (which I can't imagine), or there's something wrong with you! One of the things that adds to the ambiance is that they bake their own pita right there in the dining room, so it's always fresh and hot, and oh so delicious! Pros: The food and atmosphere rock Cons: Small parking lot. more

good persian 4/2/2007

Though in an unfortunate dingy strip mall, the restaurant has made recent renovations. The meals are simple, mainly a meat and rice fare. I like the stews, however. I also like the pre meal lavash with herbs and feta cheese. The meals are pricey but you do get a huge portion of rice. more

Not Impressed 8/1/2006

My boyfriend and I went there for lunch one afternoon. I ordered the eggplant appetizer which was like a puree with yogurt over it. The presentation was lacking, and the appetizer came out luke warm. The food was decent but for the prices, not a value. The service was over-solicited and we felt uncomfortable. The atmosphere is beautiful inside, but sadly the small shopping center it is in is trashy. Pros: Ambience Cons: Parking, Food Presentation more

Excellent Persian food 4/21/2006

My wife and I have been to Famous Kabobs several times and have taken guests. The food is authentic and delicious. Persian cooking is famous for its stews. If you are not familiar with this cuisine, you may be most tempted by the marinated meat: grilled kabobs, lamb chops and ribs, and they are outstanding. But I would recommend that you be a little daring. Try the stewed lamb shank or chicken served over rice and other savory dishes. They are also excellent and uniquely Persian. You will be amazed and delighted by the flavors. Pros: well prepared dishes, Pleasant service, not too expensive Cons: I prefer tables to bo more

Went once and was very pleased. Will be back again. more

a small treasure 11/4/2002

It looks like a ""hole in the wall"" of a tiny strip mall. The food, however is EXCELLENT, and consistent, so we stop by when we are in the mood for middle eastern food. Last time we went on a Friday or Saturday and enjoyed the belly dancer who appeared as an unexpected additional treat. more

Not to be confused with... 9/26/2002

This wonderful little Persian gem should not be confused with its Fulton Ave neighbor, Kabob House. The lunch menu offers great value to try this cuisine if it's unfamiliar to you. A particular treat...the appetizers of warm pita bread with feta cheese, red onion, and fresh herbs. Pros: fresh ingredients, well-prepared, generous portions Cons: limited parking, service can be slow, dinner prices seem hi more
