Mixed Review....My first visit to Dr. Sloan's office was pleasant. I went in for a cleaning and Dr. Sloan was very professional and gentle. My second visit was fillings for 3 cavities, which was not bad either. I wanted to get braces and in the preparation of doing so I needed/wanted my wisdom teeth removed. This was the WORST experience it took Dr. Sloan 4 hours to remove ONE tooth. I was experiencing pain from being there so long due to the meds wearing off. When I brought this to her attention she was very freaking rude about the situation. Stating that it was not possible for me be experiencing pain! My appointment was for the removal of all 4 wisdom teeth, but after she removed one I told her that we were finish and I would go else where to have the remainder of the teeth pulled. I was crying with frustration because 4 hours of teeth removal is just unheard of. I went to a different dentist two weeks later and got the remainder of my teeth removed in 35 mins! Two years later the fillings that she placed on my teeth had to be redone! White fillings life spam are 7 yrs! It is very clear that she is in this business for the money. The dentist that removed my wisdom teeth stated that she was being greedy because she usually sends out her patients for the removal of teeth. Her services are very horrible and I would never recommend her to anyone. more

A better experience than others..... 3/9/2009

I have been going to Dr.Sloan for a few years now and have not had the same experience with her as some of the other reviews.I have had alot of dental work and she has been nothing but kind,so I am not sure how some of the reviews state her as being rude and inhumane. She tells me when she starts to let her know when I feel anything and we will stop and will do whats needed to continue pain free.Which she has always done.I do agree that the office does get backed up regular and be prepared to stay longer than expected.I personally feel the only thing thats lacking in the office is the front desk help.I have had trouble getting them to file the needed material to my insurance after numerous attempts and a few other issues. The rest of the staff have been great. more

Her chairside manner is that of a prison warden when she is rushed; Enter this practice at your own risk !! 9/5/2008

Once I saw the latest review; I just had to post as my experience with Dr. Sloan was almost identical to the others. Her staff is courteous and friendly. I was there to finish a root canal, temporary crown placement & an extraction of a decayed wisdom tooth. It was obvious that she was overbooked (seems to be a recurring problem). The ""real"" Dr. Sloan exhibited her true colors when she began trying to extract the tooth. I was in severe pain. She gave me more injections. Still, this did little to help. I tried to explain to her that I was still in pain, to which she replied, ""There's NO WAY that you could possibly be feeling this. I have shot you 5 times. "" Then she tells me in no uncertain terms, ""Now quit being such a baby & let me finish my job"". Once she said this to me, I just sat there with tears rolling down my cheeks while she proceeded to inflict as much pain as possible, while pulling & wedging this tooth out. Now mind you, I am NOT faint of heart & have a pretty high pain tolerance, but when she finally managed to yank out the tooth; I swear at that moment, I thought I was going to pass out. Adding insult to injury; she had not bothered to properly place the temporary crown. As many of you know, when it sits wrong & the bite is off; it can really hurt. I'm hurting for several days thinking it is because of the trauma to my gums from the extraction, before I realized the problem was with the temp crown, I was truly afraid to go back for an adjustment. I did so however, but I never went back for the permanent one. I discussed my experience with several dental professionals & they all said that ""NO Dentist should treat their patients in such a manner."" If they could pull one's license for inhumane treatment of patients, in my humble opinion, hers would be the 1st to go. Perhaps her skills may be better suited for euthanizing stray animals at the local Human Society. Anyway, everyone has an opinion & this just happens to be mine. Pros: Gosh, there actually weren't any Cons: Everything; read the review more

STAY AWAY! RUDE AND A RIP OFF! 11/29/2007

I was so glad to find this forum. After reading the review from the mother, I had to sign up for an account just to vent and support her post.\r The location was so close to home, I chose to have my wisdom teeth taken out there. I agree with all the things the mother said, the hygenist was great, but Sloan was a nightmare. She was rough, rude, and threatened to stop if I didn't quit being ""so dramatic"" because I made noise (I could feel everything through the procedure). She gave me several shots that seemed to numb everywhere but my gums. She was just plain mean.\r \r THEN I recieved my EOB (explanation of benefits) from my insurance. I overpaid by almost $60.00. I waited 2 weeks and Sloan or her office never contacted me. So I called them. They said fax the EOB. I did with a cover sheet explaining I should have only paid $180, but I paid $200 + . The point was I paid over $200 - $230 to be exact. Another week went by so I called again. They lost the EOB. I faxed again. The next week I got a $20.00 check. I called them and said it was closer to $60 I overpaid. Mitch sais he would have to research it. Another week passes. I call AGAIN. Mitch says he can't do anything without the EOB and he called my insurance to get it because it was lost again. He was waiting on them to fax it. I took it to him personally and handed it to him. He said he get back to me by the following Monday (this was Wednesday.) Today is Thursday, over a week later and nothing. I am still trying to get this refund, not so much the money but the point. Underprovided, overcharged, I will NEVER go there again.\r \r Not only is Sloan herself rude and nasty, her practices are shady and her office staff are poorly trained. If you do go, check that you get back any overpayment, although it may take several months to get it. Pros: they hygenist was sweet Cons: rude, unorganized, dishonest more

I actually enjoy going to the dentist!!! 2/14/2007

I have been a patient at Dr. Lucy Sloan's dental office for 2 years now and with every visit I find more and more things I love about the staff there. Dr. Sloan's office is very nicely decorated, clean, and professionally ran. All of the staff there are extremely personable and I could tell that they truly cared about me and my dental health. After meeting Dr. Sloan and having her work on my mouth I must say I am very pleased. Dr. Sloan has always been very gentle and I feel like she always does what is best for my teeth, so that I can have the healthest, prettiest smile possible. I do have to be patient and wait for Dr. Sloan to get to me, but I really do not mind. She is a very busy dentist with several patients waiting to see her everyday. I do not mind because I figure the many patients waiting on her are simply a sign of how great of a dentist she is. I would recommend Dr. Sloan to anyone, from elderly people to kids. When I go visit her office I feel like I am going to visit a friend! I can honestly say I enjoy going to the dentist. Pros: Very clean, professional office. Great Staff. Awesome Dentist! more

4 Hour Total Visit, Horrible Bedside Manner :(. Should not be working on kids. 1/29/2007

Dr. Sloan is supposed to be a family dentist, so I thought I would be safe bringing my 7 year old in tobe seen by her. We arrived 15 minutes early, right as a mother was upset because her daughter had been there over an hour and had yet to be seen - this was at 9:00 in the morning. I stayed though, because my daughter was already going to miss a day of school. This turned out to be a huge mistake. When Dr. Sloan finally made it into the exam room (at a little after 11:00), she informed me that my daughter had an absessed tooth that would require antibiotics. This was not caught 13 days earlier, when we were in for a routine checkup. She gave my daughter a shot to numb her, and then left for another 30 minutes. She did not begin working on my daughter until around 11:45, and by this time my daughter was scared to death. I have to say that Samantha, our hygenist, did an excellent job of keeping my daughter as calm as possible. Still, it was stressful for my little girl, and it was only made worse by the fact that Dr. Sloan didn't seem to be able to fit her crown on correctly. The whole time we were there she kept mentioning other dentists I should bring my daughter too - I realized then that despiter her title of ""family dentist"", she really isn't great with kids. Around 12:30, after she realized that the crown she had been working with wasn't a good fit, my daughter had regained some feeling in her gums. When Dr. Sloan jammed the crown into her gum, my little girl started sobbing, and I was doing my best to comfort her until Dr. Sloan stopped what she was doing to YELL AT ME TO BE QUIET AND LET HER DO HER JOB. I was appalled. I reminded her that even though we had been there almost 4 hours at this point, my daughter had done well until then. She began scolding me for letting her tooth become absessed, even though we've seen Dr. Sloan for regular checkups and no one noticed. Needless to say, we won't be back. Ever. I will never recommend her to anyone else. STAY AWAY. Pros: Polite Hygenists. Cons: Loooong wait time, Rude Dentist, Awful with children. more

The receptionist at this dr. was very rude. I call back to speak to the owner. Let just say they haven't return my call. Customer service is a big deal to me. If someone was rude to me. They are not getting any service from me.If someone was responsible. They would call me back to discuss the matter with me. I would not go back! Cons: Hard to find, and not alot of parking space. more
