We found a cute, lost, hungry puppy that I suspect had been dumped in our neighborhood, and of course, the kids wanted to keep him. He had a swollen belly and was covered in fleas, so I took him to the Fairmont Pet Hospital for a checkup, thinking we would be keeping him unless someone posted a "Lost Puppy" sign for him, which I doubted because the puppy didn't seem well cared for. The veterinarian was somewhat gruff, but he told me right off the bat that this puppy was not a good match for our family. We spent some money on the dog that day to vaccinate him and treat him for fleas, and then bought some books on dog behavior and training, but in the end, the vet was right: the dog was not a good match for our family. Despite the vet's gruffness, I appreciated his bluntness in advising me to find another home for the dog, which was most, if not all, Rottweiler.
