AMAZING fried oysters 4/7/2010

I went to EVOO and Za under my buddy's apartment building just out of convenience. Found their menus online and really was in the mood for some funky stuff. Although Za's macaroni and cheese pizza was meh, EVOO's cornmeal fried oysters were so freaking tender and the aioli that came with it. Since I went, I believe they've changed the dip.. now it comes with some apple bacon salsa + goat cheese fondue. Can you say overindulge? Yes, we ordered another round to take upstairs! The other food that waiters were bringing around looked so esthetically appealing that I needed to dash before I started ordering more yumyums. They have a crazy eclectic menu so if you're daring (and not a vegetarian), try this place out NOW. Pros: Fried Oysters, get pizza @ Za simultaniously Cons: idk.. will let you know! more

Delightful and fun. A real treat 8/26/2009

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Evoo last night. The atmosphere was electric, the wine list was fun and the food, divine. We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our celebration of 5 years. We will definitely be back and recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special time. Pros: Great wine list. Very professional service Cons: Absolutely none more

Excellent, vibrant and calming meal, good solid place to be 2/28/2009

Enjoyed EVOO immensely. The emphasis seems to be on fresh, clean tastes with integrity and some complexity, some herbs but lightly seasoned. Excellent food, good wait staff, present, clear and helpful, no overbearing. Good selection on the prix fix, wine was good but not fabulous, dessert was amazing, interesting and delightful, with care. Pros: Clean, clear, fun, high quality, accesible, pleasent, interesting, tasty, new, fresh Cons: Dining room is a bit small, wine was very good, but not excellent, not many cons more

Trendy but insightful 11/18/2008

GREAT dining experience! I especially loved the 3 course meal with wine tastings, a great deal at $50 pp. The wine pairings were most excellent. The apple, pumpkin, walnut, and goat cheese salad was to die for. more

The best value in the Boston area 4/18/2007

The first time we went here, I had a crab appetizer (unfortunately, a special that night - I haven't seen it on the menu since) that was very possibly the best thing I have ever eaten in my whole life. We've been back 3 times since then, and we've always enjoyed our meal. EVOO is much less expensive than comprable restaurants in downtown Boston, and parking is easy (there's a lot around the corner, by the video store). It also has an atmosphere that is at once laid-back and lively. A very fun spot. It might be the best restaurant around for groups. Pros: Great value, parking is easy, food is innovative and delicious Cons: More relaxed than romantic - It's not the kind of place where you propose to your girlfriend more

Incredible food, atmosphere & service 11/6/2006

This was the first time I'd ever been to EVOO and I can't believe it took me so long to discover it! I ordered from the chef's tasting menu (it was a Monday night) and my date ordered off of the regular menu. The presentation was amazing. The food didn't disappoint -- it was extremely fresh, perfectly seasoned, and expertly cooked. There wasn't a single thing we'd change about the meal. Service was excellent -- waiter was knowledgeable, attentive & friendly. Decor & ""vibe"" make this a great place to take a date or a group of friends.\r Free parking in a lot next to the building is just another perk!\r Highly recommended!!!!! Pros: Ambience, Parking, Service more

We go back whenever we can justify it 11/14/2005

Evoo has become a regular treat, whenever we feel we can justify the splurge. They never disappoint. The menu changes only slowly, but even the times when I haven't felt particularly excited about my choice, the dish has blown me away. At worst, one course has been simply quite good. Overall, the best food I've found in this town. Presentation is superb, but never overshadows the sensual pleasure of the eating. Even the taste of their chicken is a treat - they use the best ingredients. We always leave feeling that life is good. more

Heavenly, interesting, delicious 5/24/2004

My husband and I went with his parents on Friday--it took us forever to read the menu because everything sounded so interesting. We each ordered different appetizers, entrees, and desserts, and every single dish was delicious and very interesting. Cannot recommend it highly enough! more

fantastic, romantic, and delicious! 4/15/2004

I just went to Evoo last Saturday evening and was very impressed! My partner wanted to surprise me with a romantic dinner date and boy did he pick the right place! The service was outstanding, the appetizers and entrées were excellent, and the desserts were unlike any I'd tasted before. I had a caramel flavored crème brûlée and my partner had a chocolate mousse that was infused with the flavor of chipotle peppers and served with a scoop of basil-flavored sorbet (yeah, I know that sounds weird but you simply must try it! Wow!). I highly recommend this place!! 5 stars! Pros: atmosphere, entrées, desserts more

All around great meal 5/4/2003

I had a gift certificate to EVOO and they took fantastic care of us. From the wine to the dessert and coffee, this was as close to a perfect meal as you can get. Waiter was great, but this is a ""relaxed' atmosphere, not a place for a power lunch. Pros: Food, Service, Wine List Cons: Parking, Tables close together, No public transit more

heaven... 3/9/2003

I'm generally too lazy to post a review but this place makes me so happy I need to share. I've made it a habit of going in and sharing their appetizers with a friend or two: the cornmeal fried oysters (not trying these should be a crime--even if you don't like oysters!), porcini and truffle mushroom flan, and crab-filled potato cup. Sit back, drink a couple glasses of wine and top it all off with one of their fabulous deserts (their chocolate banana bread pudding and apple crisp are terrific). You will be happy for a week after your visit. The service is excellent--both professional and extremely friendly. The atmosphere relaxed and casual, yet elegant. Do try it. =-) (cautionarynote: although the entrees are good, we've all found that combining appetizers is a much better experience) Pros: service, creative food, nice, laid-back space Cons: some entrees more

Superb Food and Relaxed Atmosphere 12/8/2002

EVOO offers a rare combination of superb food, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere found in almost no other restaurant in Boston. Owned and operated by acclaimed chef Peter McCarthy and his wife Colleen, the couple take particular care to ensure that each dining experience meets your every expectation. The menu choices are always interesting and flavorful, the wait staff is attentive without being pushy, and the atmosphere is a pleasant change from the downtown high-end restaurants that think you should feel privileged to be eating there. Bravo! more

Longest Wait EVER 11/10/2002

People warned me about the service at this place when I mentioned that I would be going there for dinner. I had never been but a friend had recommended it so I decided to check it out, despite the warnings--how bad could it be? I'll agree that the food is pretty good but not excellent and certainly not worth the wait. We walked around 6:30PM on a Friday night and the place was about 1/2 full. Waiter took forever to bring us menus, then finally asked if we wanted to order after forgetting to offer us drinks. Apps came about 30 minutes, and meals took another 45 minutes. Waiter made no apologies, and was MIA when it came time to pay the check as well. I would not go back here unless I had a LOT of time to kill and wanted to be tortured in between courses. Pros: Service, Wait between courses, Apathy to customers Cons: Atmosphere more

Boston's Hidden Gem 7/15/2002

I had gone to Evoo almost 2 years ago with a friend and had remembered what a good meal we had. I recently drove by again and took my girlfriend there for dinner... it did not disappoint! I ordered their famous Garlic Tenderloin. It was one of the most flavourful tenderloins i have EVER had. I cant wait to go back and have it again. The service was great too, and it has a great cozy ambience to it. One of Boston's hidden gems! Pros: Food, Ambience, Price Cons: No parking more
