I played golf with a few friends golf at Centennial in Carmel, just a few miles from this diner, and decided to stop by here for dinner since I remember seeing Guy Fieri go gaga over the food here.
The diner looks to be very new, there was no worn or settled-in feel to the place. This is not a bad thing mind you, just an observation. The interior decor is what you would expect from a 1950's diner, though we were seated at a table without a ""juke box"" music player. Instead, we were treated to Top 40 music over the diner's speakers, which was odd as it didn't fit the atmosphere (decor and the outfits that the waiters/waitresses wore).
Our waiter was nice, very attentive, no complaints whatsoever in this department. I ordered the pot roast - a classic comfort dish, and was not disappointed though I was not excited about it either. It was good, but I'm not sure they would have served this dish to Guy Fieri were he to show up once again. The portion was a bit larger than average, which is good since I have a fairly large appetite and the cup of soup that came with it was in a tiny cup (go for the salad instead). The one downside to my dish was the mashed potatoes. They were tinged with yellow and had a strange,sweetish-taste to them, maybe it was condensed milk or maybe something had gone bad somewhere in the process. I left it sitting on the side of my plate as did a friend. She ordered a salmon dish and had no complaints, another ordered steak fajitas without complaints as well. The 4th in our group ordered the Chicken Pot Pie, which was not a pie or a separate serving at all. Think of a lasagna tray that is cut up into individual servings - this is what he received. It was a huge portion, too much for him to finish, and he liked it enough to ask for a doggy bag.
The food here was perfectly fine, above average for a diner. I'd return the next time I am in the area.
Pros: Solid comfort food, some with a twist
Cons: Not as great as Guy Fieri said it was on Diners, Drive Ins..
