Art, History and Architecture 3/17/2006

The Art Center takes up residence in what was once the Clarke family mansion. This beautiful English style home was the last one of it's kind to be built in the area before the Great Depression in 1929. The Clarke family was hit hard by the economic "mudslide" of the time as were most. Another family lived here after them and following their departure the Art Center began it's own history. In 1966 the City of Evanston purchased the mansion which is located on the shore of Lake Michigan. There is a small public park across the street as well as the public beach that surrounds this now educational facility. They offer classes to adults and children in every facet of the arts that they are able to; painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, weaving etc... I really enjoy visiting here, it inspires me to paint more wildlife (another one of my great passions) There is a suggested fee of $5 for adults for visiting their museum area. more

Learn Fine Arts 8/18/2005

The Evanston Art Center is a great place to learn to paint, make jewelry, learn to sculpt, create pottery, and many other artistic expressions. There are classes for both teens and adults, as well as one-day workshops for beginners and those trying to learn a more difficult technique. The Art Center features gallery shows and an outstanding Christmas show, perfect for finding just the right gift that you can't find in any store. The emphasis here is on fine art, and this is a great local resource for all art lovers, whether you're a practitioner or just like to buy. more
