A week ago I went to Essence to see Decia, who was highly recommended by my neighbor. She talked to me about my hair type, the amount of time I have to spend on it, the level of skill I have in styling it, (none!) and what I was hoping to achieve. She gave me the best haircut I have ever had, and some beautiful summer blonde highlights. She spent time walking me through the process of styling it, and it has been as easy as she promised. I was referred to Decia by two of my employees. I made an appointment for a consultation first, because I was nervous going to someone new. She made me feel instantly at ease. She has been a hairdresser for over 20 years and it shows. She was professional, and at the same time a lot of fun. She recommended a new color and spent a lot of time explaining how it worked with my skin tones, eye color and my own natural hair color. It came out incredible! Finding a new hair salon, is never an easy task........especially when you're new to the area. My co-worker recommended that I go see Christopher at Essence salon. When I first walked in and glanced around, I immediately loved the atmosphere. I felt like I was in a beautiful home. Most salons, have that ""salon"" feel.... if you know what I mean. Not this one. The vibe is extremely friendly and relaxing, like it should be. The decor is beautiful. There are separate rooms, with a few stylists in each room. The salon is very spacious..... not all cramped together. Christopher, highlighted my hair with expertise. My color is beautiful. I am extremely happy. I've been going to Isaac Sandoval at Essence for about 6 years, and I can't recommend him highly enough. He is brilliant without ever pushing you into anything you don't want, extremely skilled with both cut and color, and my hair always looks fantastic. I get tons of compliments, strangers regualrly stop and ask me who does my hair. He is also kind, pleasant, and unintimidating. When my stylist moved to Essence salon I was thrilled with the idea of the location, away from downtown traffic and free parking. I found everyone in the salon to be friendly and the atmosphere very relaxing. Everyday I drive by the salon on my way to PCC, and finally one day I decided to call for an appointment, I am so glad I did! I found Essence to be a great place, first of all for the easy free parking and freeway access. The salon is very warm and friendly. My stylist, Laura McDowall, was prompt and listen to my needs and questions. I took my 13 year old daughter, and she was very pleased with her hair. She got a lot of complements at school the next day. I have had been to a lot of salons that are very crowded, and the stylist seems to rush to get to her next client, but not here. I recently visited Laura McDowall at Essence, and had a wonerful experience. She listened to all my needs, then gave me an awesome hilight and cut. Laura was on time and very attentive during my salon visit. Early and late appointments are available, too. The salon itself is just beautiful. A turn of the century Spanish stlye building, it's wonderfully decorated by owner Lisa Asselin. Roomy but very warm.
