I went in requesting for them to check my battery, as my son left the dome light on. Of course, they came back with needing a new battery and alternator for $560. So, we agreed without checking any reviews. I got the car back, drove it to work the next day and the battery light came on and remained on. The shop claimed that they must have gotten a faulty alternator from the supplier. At closing time when my husband went to get the car, it wasn't ready because the supplier had brought over the wrong alternator. They needed to keep the car for the night. Car was finished the next day, and when I got there, my car had a noticeable "ding" on the door. I hate confrontations, but went in anyway (with my kids) to tell them about the "ding". The son came out, scolded me and said, "Lady, that is not a ding, that is a chip. And furthermore, this chip is on the door, and just so you know, the engine is in the front of the car." The next day my husband went to make sure that the "new battery" was not drained while I drove the entire day with a faulty alternator. He was greeted by the owner and son to an obscenity laced tirade and was verbally assaulted. After the incident and some research, it has come to our attention that not only do they get an F from the Better Business Bureau, but that the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce will not even allow the EAC to try to reinstate their membership because they have such poor customer service and are such miserable people with which to deal. The Chamber of Commerce indicated that this was not the first complaint that they've recieved, and knew exactly to whom we were referring simply by hearing the story. The EAC guys take advantage of more than just women, and jokingly told my neighbor when he was in that they just "stole" some money from an unsuspecting customer by convincing him to have unnecessary work done. I brought my car in to find out why my check engine soon light was on. When I returned to get my car, the two employees were LAUGHING about how they just took someone for a lot of money and how they'd be in again the next week with another issue. Also, I found out they STOLE my new tires when I had an issue with one today and returned to where I had bought them just to find out that the tires on my car were NOT the ones I had purchased. Nobody has access to my car at any time other than me. The only time it has ever been left anywhere without my supervision was with the people at Elmhurst Auto Clinic. DO NOT leave your vehicle with them EVER! They will rip you off and they will steal from you. Oh, and one more little bit of info... Ray S. who gave them such a glowing review had his COMPANY CAR repaired by E.A.C, with his company paying the bill so how trustworthy is that review exactly when it didn't effect his own budget? more

Ask a local in Elmhurst about this place. Everybody's got a story. In my case they didn't tell me the component they were replacing was under warranty. Only found out about it because we kept having strange follow up problems (you hear this part from everybody) that required more and more work and we gave up and went to the dealer. Cost us just under a thousand dollars to fix something that would have been free. They were completely unapologetic either about ripping us off, or about doing it so poorly and blatantly that the work had to be re-done. People here just shrug. These have a fantastic, convenient location that keeps people coming in. Don't do it. more

I have been going to Elmhurst Auto Care for a long time, and for the past couple of years i have noticed some realy shady things start to go down. I get my oil changed like i am suppose to...but whenever i get it changed by them, ny oil light goes off after only driving 2,000 miles. I am no car expert but i know that the oil from an oil change should last a little over 3,000 before you need another....and everytime i have gone there it doesnt fail to go off after only 2,000. Another issue is that whenever i take my car in to get something fixed...something else happens to break DAYS after having had it fixed...weird? My brother got something fixed with his engine at EAC...his car started acting up right aas we drove off the lot! we drove it back and the Mechanic told us that he knocked a wire loose with his big beefy hand...and that this happens fairly frequently...but insted of checking that he didnt do this...they let it drive off the lot, and if someone brings it back, then they'lll check. The Father Son Team statement is BS...they are both very aloof human beings who talk down to everyone that walks through the door. I would exercise caution when thinking about choosing these guys to touch your car more

Is it possible to give a review of negative stars? The basic idea with this place is to avoid it like the plague. I took my boyfriends vehicle there with a tire problem while we were in town working an art show and the two men in the office, one seemed like the owner, were sexist, tried to rip me off, and personally attacked myself and my boyfriend. Before I even had them look at the tire the "owner" directly implied I wouldn't know what year the vehicle was because I was a woman. Then upon seeing the tire they tried to convince me it couldn't be repaired and should be replaced. When I decided not to have it repaired there they started telling me my boyfriend was an F*cking idot, I should break up with him, that I was putting people at danger and they "hated people like me." The insults went on and on. They directly swore at me and about my boyfriend. It is no wonder I didn't want to have my vehicle serviced there. I have never experienced such verbal abuse. When they finally gave me back my keys they blocked me in so I couldn't leave. They left me sitting in my car for about 10 min. When we took the car to a different place they had no problem fixing the tire and it has been fine. Not to mention the price they quoted me for a tire was outrageously expensive, much more then I could get it somewhere else. These people were jerks, I would never go back there and because of my service have considered reporting them to the BBB. more

I brought my BMW into Elmhurst Auto Clinic (EAC) to have the oxygen sensors changed. The work was completed quickly and the price was less than a quarter of the price the dealer wanted to charge me. I will continue to use EAC and recommend them. more

We used to go to the shop. The most blatant thing they did was say we needed a new air conditioning unit, then another mechanic said the cable had been disconnected. They also sold me a new battery to go with an alternator that had gone bad, saying you should always replace them together. more

I took my car to Elmhurst Auto, seeing as I had just moved to the area and it was convenient. It had an oil leak which led into a transmission problem and the then axle. I started suspicious since each time I took the car to them they found something new wrong with it and the old problems always. After taking the car to no less than 3 other mechanics, it was confirmed that none of the work was done. I sued for all my money back $1500 and did not get a dime back due to the judge saying I had insufficient evidence. Never again will I be cheated. Always get a second opinion if you don't know cars. more

I had a similar experience recently with Elmhurst Auto Cllinic. I purchased a new battery from them, and when they got the car in the shop they told me that not only was my old battery weak, but I also had a bad alternator. Since I have an extended warranty on the vehicle, I immediately took it to the dealership. After thoroughly checking out the electrical system, the dealership advised me that the alternator was perfectly good. There's a definite pattern here. more

When I first joined the community by starting school at Elmhurst College I often needed work on an old car I had and the routine oil change. Since the Elmhurst Auto Clinic was nearby and convenient I started going there. The oil change price is great. But that's not where my complaint is. Around every other oil change they would somehow find something wrong with the car that had to be replaced right then....and it would cost an extra $100-$300. On top of that, the guy that works the front counter is always swearing and never says a simple "thank you" or "how's it going". I started to have my ABS light come on periodically so I took it in and was told that the whole "brake computer", front and rear brake pads and rotors, and all contacts would need replaced and there was no way around it. The total bill would be somewhere around $1800. Knowing that didn't sound right I told a local friend about the situation and he instantly replied "You took it to them?! No wonder!" He told me they had a string of complaints with the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and that I should go somewhere else for a quote. I went to another local shop, they told me there was a loose and dirty contact and that only my rear rotors were in bad shape. Total bill, $225. Needless to say, beware! more
