Editorial review from Citysearch 9/28/2013

Would recommend to anyone! Great food, friendly atmosphere, small private room for family or meeting. With an autistic child the private space (actually in the middle of the restaurant with glass windows all around) makes a great place to let him move about and not disturbing any other guests. more

This was the best apartment/loft I have 6/30/2013

This was the best apartment/loft I have ever lived in. There is an elevator as well as W/D in every unit. Very well maintained and upscale. Many young professionals live there. Building was always quiet. Pet friendly. There is gated off-street parking as well as a coded entrance. However, safety was not an issue for me. Hardwood floors are standard, and the units' layout is intelligent. There is a Good sized storage area per unit. There is also a small workout area that I never used (but I probably should have). Pricing is great for a loft if you don't mind not having a lot of amenities. Plus, you will be in a great neighborhood. There's usually a waiting list to get in. So, you may have to wait 3-6 months at the most to get into certain types of units. That's the only con about it. more

Fantastic! 10/4/2010

I was in town on a buisness trip, and a colleague suggested this restaurant. There were 3 in our group and we did not have reservations but were seated promptly. (It was mid-week, so I can imagine that reservations would be necessary during the weekend.) Our server was friendly but did not constantly bother us, and he had great suggestions. I had rabbit over goat cheese polenta and wanted to lick my plate. I also had the butternut squash soup, and it was the best I've had at any restaurant, ever. We split a flourless chocolate cake and it was also amazing. I wish I lived closer so I could return sooner! more

Great Steak, Nice Atmosphere 1/29/2010

In town on business, we had planned to go to a steak house when the cabbie suggested 1111. Had one the the best tasting, flavorful Rib eye's ever. Server was polite but not over-bearing. Bibb lettuce and fruit salad was excellent. Not the biggest menu, but everything we saw come out looked appealing. We'll definitely be back. Pros: Food Quality, Service Good, Good overall Experience Cons: A little on the loud side. Homemade ice cream had a strange more

Great food and Service!!!!!! 11/1/2009

Busy Saturday night and they sat us within minutes of our 8:00 reservation. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great waiter. The steamed mussels were the 2nd best Ive ever had.....Bar italia in the CWE is the best. GIrlfriend had a vegetarian plate of Polenta and various grilled mushrooms. We eat out alot and at mostly the best resturaunts in town and she said that this may have been her favorite dish ever. I tried some and it was great. I had the beef medallions over their mashed potatoes with a sauce lighty drizzled over the top. Was very good as well. Only down side is that upon making my reservation 4 days early I specified a romantic, qiueter spot. Had been here before and knew it is quite loud and crowded but there were a few tucked away spots. We were sat in the middle of a row of 8-9 tables in the middle of the room upstairs. Not a big deal but also was not what we requested. For a romantic dinner???...no for great food and especially a group of 4 or more....yes. Pros: Food, service, and Wine list Cons: Noisy, and a bit crowded in regards to table locations. more

Disappointing 2/20/2009

I had been to this restaurant a year ago for lunch, but Valentine's Day 2009 was the first time I had been back and had beent here for dinner. Because I had a good experience with the lunch (excellent flatbreads!) and the numerous good reviews online, my boyfriend and I decided to go there for Valentne's Day. We decided to do the 3-course Valentine's Day special. I had the boar ravioli, the field greens and the bacon-wrapped pork. I forget what my boyfriend had for his appetizer, but he had the butternut squash soup and the seared duck breast. Good things first: we both enjoyed our main courses (the pork and the duck) very much, and we thought the staff was very pleasant (they accomodated us even of our days plans ended very early and we showed up an hour early to our appointment!). Disappointments: the boar ravioli was lukewarm , had a weird aftertase, and the sauce actually seemed like it came out of a can. The field greens were nothing to crow about and my boyfriend's butternut squash soup was waay too sweet. Overall, the restaurant is a beautiful place to go, but the food is disappointing and wasn't worth the price. more

Ignore the good reviews on this place. They're trying to create image and buzz but the trouble is with their food; it's bad and service isn't much better. Ate there twice and both times the food was serve luke-warm at best. Try Taco Bell, it's better and you'll save yourself some money. more

Perfect for our One Year Anniversary 8/26/2008

We decided to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary at a restaurant we hadn't visited before. We found out about 1111 Mississippi, and thought it would be fun to try! We made our reservations easily through their website, and upon arriving were shown directly to our table. Our waiter was fantastic: he learned it was our anniversary, so he brought us 2 glasses of champagne, complimentary and was great at making suggestions. I also spoke to the couple next to us (they had just received their check and were leaving) and they gave great recommendations. We were told we had to try to the wild boar ravioli by a friend and by reading other reviews of the restaurant, so we did: not so boary (though I'm not sure what IS boary) but the sauce and textures were great. My husband took our waiter's advice and orderd the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin: delicious, tender, hubby was happy. I had the wild mushrooms with polenta: also delicious. The polenta was amazing, rich and creamy. We were very impressed with the overall atmosphere, the food (oh, the free bread is AMAZING too), the wine list (I had a shiraz, hubby had a good ole beer), our waiter (Scott B., you were fantastic!) and the overall experience. A large group was seated close to us, and they were even having a great time, so I would recommend coming with a larger party as well. We think we'll make this a yearly tradition, or at the very least will definitely come back! Pros: Atmosphere, food, service: great special celebration spot. Cons: None: just wish I had visited hear sooner! more

Excellent & Consistent service, food, and wine selection 8/23/2008

I've been going to 1111 for four years and rank it in my top 5 restaurants in St. Louis. The flat breads, apps, and entrees are all delicious. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. And of course, their sommelier does a wonderful job managing their wine selection as well as providing recommendations. Pros: Consistent and excellent food/service Cons: Parking can be a problem more

Very disappointed. 8/21/2008

I was really hoping to like this place... Pros: Wine list. Cons: Food. more

Too expensive and rude server. 5/30/2008

I usually don't take the time to write reviews, but in this case, I felt compelled to warn people. I read the other reviews on here and took my husband to 1111 for his birthday. We were seated in a crowded location, with the other tables only inches away. The most aggravating thing was our server, who questioned what we ordered (especially our wine choices) and did so with a condescending attitude. It was very embarrassing and a real damper on a special evening. This is absolutely not the place to go for privacy or a romantic meal. Additionally, we both felt the menu was limited. On the positive side, we did enjoy the cheese platter, and I liked the bread--but those were the only highlights of the experience. For his entree, my husband had the ""wild boar,"" which was overcooked and flavorless. I tried the stuffed chicken, which only tasted like the Dijon sauce smothered all over it. We also recognized the ""gourmet"" cheese on top of his dish; it was the same cheese we buy every week from Costco. It's OK cheese, but it's not what we expected or paid for. The entire experience was not worth the price or time. If you do go there, I truly hope your experience will be better than ours. Pros: Good cheese platter and bread Cons: Rude service, way over priced more

Amazing food, atmosphere and waiter 1/29/2008

I highly recommend 1111 Mississippi. From the first phone call to make the reservation, until the payment of the check, the whole experience was amazing. I went to 1111 Mississippi with a group of girl friends. To our surprise they had us seated in the wine room. It was wonderful being slightly separated from the main dining area, yet we didn't feel excluded from the fun atmosphere. I ordered the wild boar ravioli for an appetizer. It was excellent. The ravioli was cooked just right and the sauce that topped it was very flavorful. The wild boar was delicious. We each ate about 3 pieces of bread, it was that good! I ordered the halibut and exchanged the squash for goat cheese polenta. It was a wonderful combination. The halibut was very flavorful and prepared perfectly. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu. He treated us so well. Probably the best waiter I have had in years. It was a perfect place for our girls night out. We ordered gooey butter cake for dessert, it was not as gooey as we would have liked. Our waiter asked us about it and we told him we didn't feel it was as great as we thought it would be. He immediately offered us our choice of another dessert. We choose the bread pudding with caramel sauce. It was the BEST bread pudding! We were thrilled with the second dessert. Everything was perfect at 1111. We were very excited to get a girls night out (we are 30 something's with kids). We had high expectations and they did not disappoint. I highly recommend this restaurant for a girls night out or even a couples night out. I also saw a group with a baby! Highly recommended, one of the best restaurants in St. Louis. Pros: Selection of food, wait staff Cons: None that I could find more

Delicious food in warm and inviting ambience. 11/27/2007

This is one of the best restaurants in St. Louis. I have been 3 times and each time have had a fabulous time. While some of the entrees can be pricey there is a good variety on the menu and it is easy for even the most budget conscience diner to find something yummy. The food is incredible. From the ""BLT"" (with lobster... and LOTS of it!!!) to the pork chops to the oven fired pizzas, everything is well balanced and extraordinary in every way. Pros: inspired food, terrific ambience Cons: can be difficult to find parking on a Fri or Sat. night. more

good people 7/5/2007

1111 Mississippi is a nice place to eat. Price is slightly high, but you get what you pay for. nice atmosphere, and a very nice management. I would recommend 1111 to anyone wanting somewhere unique to get a good lunch or a nice dinner. Pros: good food, good people Cons: expensive to get full for lunch more

Nice atmosphere, good food 12/11/2006

I went with a few friends. I had heard about it, and was not dissapointed in the least. The wine selection is great, and so are the apetizers if you are in for some different things. I was amazed when I saw trout, rabbit, and wild boar in the menu, but everything was delicious. Great and prompt service too! Pros: different areas to dine Cons: location more

A Staple in Lafayette Square 11/2/2006

This is one of those restaurants that can be either the best meal you've ever had, or a disappointing experience. It depends on the night, and your server, as far as I can tell. But, luckily, I have had many more of the ""best meals"" than the disappointments. Their wine list is extensive--try a wine flight. They also have prix fixe ""Tuscan Tuesdays"" and California Trios on Thursdays that are always interesting. Pros: Creative menu, some of the best entrees in the city Cons: Consistency is occasionally a problem more

The steak ribeye is probably the best I have had 8/3/2006

I have had a lot of steak. I probably order the steak at most evey place I go unless the special sounds better. I have to say that my wife and I agree that the ribeye is the best meat we have had... ever. Having eating at Gibson's in Chicago, and Capitol Grill in Scottsdale recently we have good comparisons. The service was above average, the wine we chose was good (Argentinian), the potatoes were okay. The rabbit was good, but not great, but the polenta was excellent. As far as appetizers go, the wild boar ravioli was good, but the mussels were much better. Get the dessert sampler and you will be pleased. We will be going back as soon as we can. Pros: Great food and atmosphere more

Quite a scene, but I have had better. 8/2/2006

I went with a group of 6 where it was the first time I was happy to have a table back in the corner to diffuse the noise coming from the main portion of the dining room. Our server was friendly, but a bit too friendly when he started chumming up to us and neglecting his character as a server. A few of the entrees arrived way too done, and we suspected the cause were the BRIGHT orange food warmers (that I believe doubled as ""mood lighting"") back in the kitchen. Maybe I need to go back with a smaller group and try this experience again, but for now I have a bad taste of charred filet in my mouth. Pros: Scene Cons: Food, Service, Ambience more
