Third time is not a charm 2/14/2009

This was my third time at this establishment, after having been very satisfied during the first two visits, the the last visit being several years ago. This time however, was a HUGE disappointment and I would not recommend it now, especially since I understand that Elana Woo has actually recently sold it, which would account for the mediocre to horrible cusine. The shrimp bisque soup was a tad above mediocre, and served lukewarm. We also tried the sesame noodles, which tasted like plain noodles in peanut butter, with no sesame whatsoever. We also sampled the eggplant stuffed mousse, a total bomb consisting of tasteless fried mashed so called shrimp inside tasteless eggplant. The appetizer highlight was the cocconut shrimp, the only tasty thing we had. It came with a mango salsa and mixed greens, an excellent combination. It could have used a little more of the sauce. Our entree's were poor, the Peking duck was bland the Hoisin sauce was so salty in was inedible. The seafood wonder made me wonder why I ever came here. The shrimp was iodine tasting, and the scallops and vegetables bland. I complained to the managerment and was offered a 10% discount, and free dessert, which was one of the worst creme brulee's I have ever had. Chez Elana Wu will not be on my go to list. Pros: 1 good appetizer, the cocconut shrimp Cons: all other food lousy more

Nothing to Brag About 12/25/2008

This is nothing more than a scam to get you in. I know good chinese food and it is nothing more than what you would get in center city Philadelphia, or a good New York chinese establishment. Dont be fooled. I had Mongolian beef which wasn't bad, but overpriced. The egg roll and wonton soup was nothing but average. more

A Wonderful Blending of Tastes 8/8/2008

The food at Chez Elena Wu is consistently good and a wonderful blend of French and traditional Chinese tastes. It leaves you with--not ot be trite or corny--a good taste in your mouth for more! Though it can at times be pricey depending on what you order, you'll likely consider your money well spent! It can get quite busy at times and a reservation is suggested if you plan to dine on weekend days and/or at peak hours. Pros: Gracious host and hostess, good, attentive service, excellent food Cons: Reservations suggested, plan in advance more

Suzanna Foo NOT!!! 8/23/2007

The owner in idle conversation told me and my wife that she was Suzanna Foo's sister and that she has the same cuisine that they have in Philly. Don't be fooled, we went to Foo's 2 days later and found out that wu and foo are not related in any way especially in the type of food thats served. They both say they serve Chinese French fare but I guess what makes Elena Wu French is their attitude toward ""stupid Americans""\r All Chez Elena Wu is an overpriced Chinese takeout restaurant, oh yes they do have linen table clothes and don't forget the word Chez in the name, other chinese places don't do that, or maybe its the more peanuts than chicken in the Kung Pao Chicken when we asked Elena about this she told us that its because she uses ""chicken breast"", give me a break, everybody, even Micky D's uses chicken breast, are we really that stupid. I guess so because people come here regularly. If you want imaginative Chinese French fare in a fantastic setting go to Philly its big $$$, but worth every penny, if you want to be FOOLED go to Chez Elena Wu, chinese menu and china buffet quality sushi as well. If you like fake places this is the place for you. It is what it is. Pros: nice dining room, pleasant professional waitors, takeout Cons: owners trying to be something their not, to much copying from other restaurants more

Fantastic service ... awesome food! 6/16/2006

This was our first visit to Chez Elena Wu's. My husband and I went for our anniversary and it was a great choice. The restaurant is decorated very nicely and you are greeted by Ken, who I believe is Elena's husband. He is so nice ... and he even wished us a happy anniversary. We started with spring rolls and I had the seaweed salad which was very tasty. My husband tried the tuna parfait w/ fresh mango. I have never tried raw fish, but it was really good. And the presentation is awesome. For entrees, I had seared Tilapia with crab and shrimp covered with a lobster sauce .... so yummy. My husband tried the Sesame crusted tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes. Though the potatoes didn't really taste like wasabi, they were good. Its a BYOB, so we had wine with us and the servers will come by and refill your glasses. To end a wonderful meal, we had the Creme Brulee which was amazing!!!!! I would definitely recommend going to this restaurant. We will definitely return. more

Second to none 8/3/2002

As someone who has frequented hundreds of Chinese restaurants across the country, with a doubt I can say Elena Wu is one of the best at serving up the finest in quality and taste. The food at Elena's is simply outstanding and the service is reliable and professional if not downright friendly especially when Elena and her husband are present. When Elena herself is cooking which is frequent, the restaurant is a world class eatery. I've had the pleasure of dining at Elena's two restaurants for over 15 years and will continue to do so in the future. This is a gem of an eatery that we in South Jersey should be proud to call our own. Jim Pros: World quality chef, specialty meals, location Cons: Pricey, crowded weekends more
