Elegant Designs

I just had my overcoat altered and Jenny did a perfect job. I was told by others that altering my coat would be lengthy and costly, but the process at Elegant Designs was extremely quick and it cost about half of what I expected to pay. The owner is extremely nice and helpful, and I will definitely return for any future alterations. Don't be intimidated by the wedding dresses along the walls, Jenny is an expert with men's clothes as well. Also, as of this posting the sign in front of the building reads ""Elegant Alterations,"" which might be confusing to some. I'm recommending this place to everyone I know! Jenny is the best. I was looking to get my jeans hemmed and had called around to several places. I found her, she had the best prices and even better yet the best attitude. She is extremely pleasant, friendly and helpful. I am tall and I have to buy my jeans extra long so I bring them in to her for an ""original hem"" job. She always make them look like they were right off the shelf and never even altered. Her prices are reasonable and she (and her sister) does great work. I have now been going to her for several years and send everyone I know to her too. She has since opened up another shop with her sister too. Ask her about it, as I am not sure of the location. Either way, I am sure it would be worth the drive. Pros: Professional work, reasonable prices, quick and accomodating Cons: not open on Sundays I guess. (Can't think of any cons) more

I usually just take my jeans in to get hemmed and I always get a perfect job, you can't even tell they were hemmed. A friend of mine recently brought a dress of delicate fabric to have altered and again the work was wonderful and the price is just right. I everyone I know to her! Pros: Easy to access, fast service, and being a student it is also great that her prices are affordable. more

I brought a bridesmaid's dress in for tailoring, but I was pretty worried about how much it would cost. I'd heard that most people hear the word ""wedding"" and immediately double their prices, but Jenny was completely reasonable. One of the other bridesmaids had less work done to her dress and was charged twice as much as I was! Pros: Service! Cons: A little out of the way, but worth it. more

I was looking for a dressmaker to make my wedding dress from an intricate beaded fabric that I purchased in India years ago. After realizing I didn't want to spend thousands (yes thousands) of dollars to have Seema or Miosa make the dress, I searched for local tailors, and was lucky to come across Elegant Designs. Jenny, the owner, is extremely talented. I brought in the fabric and printouts of the front and back of the dress I wanted. She made it perfectly. It's gorgeous and fits exceptionally. And Jenny is a wonderful and nice person to work with --- very professional and extremely talented. I have my dream dress at a fraction of the cost of what the boutiques on J St would have charged. Thanks Jenny!!! Pros: Extremely talented, can make custom clothes from a picture more
