Elder 1 Contracting

Worst experience with a contractor ever. The owner felt he should be paid the final payment before the job was complete. I had sent him an email with a list of things still needing to be done several weeks earlier. I started emailing his office because he wouldn't answer his phone or return calls. Less than 24 hours after HE decided it was complete, I got a very ignorant voicemail threatening a lawyer if I didn't pay by the next day. In a return call to him, one of the few times I was actually able to get in touch with him, he was very rude and didn't care that I wasn't satisfied. He changed his lawyer threat to the end of the day and hung up on me. \r The addition is done. Some of it wasn't done properly and even after redoing isn't right. The project drug on way longer than it should have, even with bad weather which is his go to excuse. Communication between the owner and the workers on site was lacking. Several times we had to remind them of what we wanted. We finished the back- filling of the sidewalk and the driveway ourselves. The owner said he would come back to fix things but needed his final payment first. After the way he treated us, he is not welcome here which makes his warranty worthless. I would NOT RECOMMEND using this company. We did a 2 car garage and mudroom/laundry room addition. The owner is very unprofessional. He would not return our phone calls through out the entire project......which took almost 6 months. We were told it would only take about 30 days. It took longer than that for them to get the correct architectural drawing to get the permit. The first drawing they gave us was not done by a licensed architect and therefore did not have the architectural seal or even a signature. Once they were finally finished with the mudroom\laundry room they left it a complete dirty mess. The doors were covered in mud and dirt and the floors were still dirty. We had to go in and scrub the doors and the floors ourselves. After scrubbing the two doors in our mudroom we realize that there were many scratches in the doors.......which I can see why because the doors sat outside in the yard for many months uncovered in the snow and rain. This along with soda cans and cups that the workers just threw down in the yard. We had to go out a couple of times and pick up stuff because it looked so bad. Inside the garage where they put up the drywall, the mudding and taping looks like it was done by a 6 year old. The stuff they used to do the mudding and taping was dripped all over the floor in the garage, which of course we had to clean up and scrape off the floor ourselves. This was just a horrible experience all around and I just wanted to share our experience with this company with everyone so that they don't have to go through this. more
