El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant

My husband and I just went for dinner at El Ranchito, our third time in a few years. The food has always been marginal but this time it was sub par. I ordered the combo plate enchilada, chile relleno and tamale. The chile relleno was under cooked as the egg was very runny. The tamale was still frozen inside. My husband had the Azul Con Pollo which consisted of boiled chicken and a few frozen vegetables over day old rice. We were not impressed! I told my husband it was as if we just paid a fortune to have TV dinners. I would never go back. No wonder the place was empty. Here is hoping for a non food poising experience from our TV dinners. more

Great food! Great service! And some of the best chips and salsa we have had! \r \r We are new to the Portland area and have been trying to find great Mexican food and we found it last night! Not only was the food fresh and delicious but the service was wonderful! We were dinning with our 16 month old son which can be difficult at times and the staff made it a wonderful and easy experience for us all!!!!!!!\r Pros: Food was super yummy and the service was amazing! Cons: May not apear to be as good as it is from the street. more

This is a great neighborhood Mexican place to take the kids and have some good Mexican food. The magaritas are also amazing. The service is friendly and they are really accommodating to kids and babies. I have had lots of different things there that have all been good. El Ranchito is hands down the best authentic mexican restaurant that I have tried in the greater Portland Metro area (and I have tried a ton of them). I frequent this place 2 - 3 times a month and have not been let down yet down to date. Their chips and salsa are awesome and the carnitas des res is also highly recommended. The price is right as dinner and a drink for two will typically run you less then $30. Give this place a try!! I am not sure why they have such bad reviews on this site. Good selection.... Thin, warm, crunchy chips. Salsa spicy w/ fresh cilantro. Good Guacamole. Great coffee w/ a hint of cinnamon - mexican coffee plavor. Seating was very comfy for chubby people at the booths - which is rare. It was a little drafty there.\r \r The food and selection were good but I just ordered the wrong thing. I was not careful to READ the menu properly so.... my bad - but I would go back !! Pros: The coffee is sooooo good! Cons: cold in there! more

My Boyfriend and I dined in this resturant every once and a while and the food is ok. But this time we stood at the front of the resturant for 10 minutes before anyone came and sat us. We then got our food I got the Enchilada with beef and my boyfriend got the Chimichanga with Chicken. The food tasted fine and we shared off both of our plates. But around midnight we both became violently sick. I have never been so sick in my life. \r While in the resturant i ran into an old friend and I contacted he confirmed that both him and his wife also got very very sick.!! I was there on sunday and today is Tuesday and both of us are still very sick and did not go to work yesterday or today. So consider this a warning. Pros: Little hole in the wall great drinks nice area. Cons: not sanitary more

This had to have been the worst Mexican food I've ever had in my life. A sad shriveled up little enchilada. I sent it back. I looked at some of the other diners' plates and the food definitely didn't look very appetizing. That was my first and last visit. more
