If you want someone to ask you how you want your meat then you don't want real authentic Mexican food. I don't usually go out for Mexican food since I can get it at my mom's, but...

Worst

Went there last night and had a carne asada and woke up throwing up this morning!!!!!!!

Great Food and Margs.. 8/15/2002

Both my husband and I love this place. The food is wonderful. The authentic Mexican food brings us back time and time. I actually really love the atmosphere. It is an old steak house that was converted into this Mexican restaurant. They splashed some color on the walls and hired a staff ready to make your meal enjoyable. Oh yes.. don't forget to try one of the margaritas. They are amazing! I highly recommend this restaurant for authentic Mexican food. Pros: Food, Staff, Did I say food?? more

Muy Muy Bien 8/13/2002

My husband and I eat at or take out El Loro at least once a week. We are regulars at the Coon Rapids location. If we do not eat there we have to drive MILES to dine anywhere but a CHAIN. We are very picky. We like AUTHENTIC food. I am not just talking TACOS or FAJITAS. If you want authentic try the following items: Tacos de Carne Asada, Chile Verde, Enchiladas Verde or Enchiladas Poblanas (Polbanas is topped with a Mole sauce, this is an aquired flavor for most for it is made out of chocolate and a huge list of ingredients) The sides are excellent, guacamole salad, beans and rice. Atmosphere is very casual--but it is the food that matters. After all I am paying for what goes in the tummy not what I am sitting on! Adios mis amigos. Tengo hombre! BTW Excellent wait staff. Extrememly freindly! Pros: Fast Friendly Service, Reasonable prices, Repeat Customers more

best mex in mn 8/12/2002

Out of all the mexican restaurants I've been to in Minnesota this one made the top of my list. I'm originally from Arizona so I'm accustomed to the real thing especially after spending many mealtimes with my best friend and la familia Cruz. Their menu is large and the price is very reasonable. My husband and I usually have food to take home. The atmosphere is pretty low key so no need to get dressed up here, almost like being in Mexico. Pros: Inexpensive, easy access off 13, large portions Cons: small parking lot more

Great Authentic Food, Great Prices! 7/24/2002

What a pleasure to find a place brave enough to break out of the Twin Cities' Don-Pablo's-Mold for ""Mexican"" food and serve dishes more bold, tasty, and true to form. Step into El Loro and you feel as though you've stepped into Mexico. There aren't many frills in El Loro's decor - which in my opinion adds to its charm and feeling of authenticity. They've got an expansive menu - we had to ask our attentive waiter to come back 3 times just so we could be sure we hadn't missed anything. My beef burrito platter was a generous portion and very tasty. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her chicken fajitas as well. Here's my litmus test: a good number of the patrons were other Mexicans! Pros: Good Food Selection, Great Value, Mexican Ambiance Cons: Unimpressive Exterior, Un-"familiar" Menu more
