Authentic, delicious, and inexpensive! 3/10/2009

I am native to LA and have been going here for about 12-13 years now. I have NEVER had such consistantly great Mexican food anywhere else. I've also never had a bad server here. The prices are amazing and portions large. I love that you can help yourself to beer in the fridge while you wait. It just makes it feel like your at a friends house. I've watched them expand and grow in the years and only hope the place always stays in the Sandoval family. Thanks for some great food and good times! more

A must visit! 2/2/2009

My gfriend has been coming here for years with her parents. She turned me onto this place and i try to visit it every two weeks. The way the cheese melts over the lip of the hot plate, to the beans and rice. Its all good. Order anything off the menu and you wont go wrong. Parking can be tough but worth it. Exilekiss maybe you should try taco bell. more

P-Town's Finest 1/23/2009

If you're looking for authentic Mexican food in an authentic atmosphere (read: not El Torito), this is the place! A great family-run restaurant, with some of the best Mexican food around. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered, from the carnitas enchiladas rancheras to the yummy tacos, tamales, and flautas--it's all SO good! And the service is always warm and friendly. I grew up in SoCal and recently moved to Oregon--of all the Mexican food places I miss, this one is at the top of the list. I wish they'd expand to Portland... Pros: delicious food, great prices, awesome service Cons: parking can sometimes be a pain on busy weekends more

THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD AROUND 7/18/2008

Warm Service, but Mediocre Mexican Food 3/14/2007

I tried this restaurant based on it being voted ""#1 Mexican"" in the OC on Citysearch. We tried 3 dishes, and sadly the end result was very disappointing. The decor / restaurant is very ""old, neighborhood family restaurant"" (nothing wrong with that), in a quiet part of town. The Pork Tamales were the best item we had tonight: A touch spicy, tasty, but the pork was a little tough. The Carnitas Burrito I had was the biggest disappointment: It was honestly THE saltiest Carnitas I've ever had in my life (and I've had a LOT of Carnitas)! I could only take a few bites before stopping. The Chips were stale, and the Chicken Flautas turned out to be ~average at best.\r \r The only real highlight was the very warm, GREAT service and feel at the restaurant. You could tell it was run by an honest family and the other servers all seemed to exude that feeling as well. It's really too bad the food was so mediocre, or else this would truly be one of the better places to eat in the OC for authentic Mexican food. The search continues... Pros: Great, Hospitable Service Cons: Mediocre Food; terrible Carnitas more

I went to college with a son of the owner of el Farolito and since the late 70s I have been a regular customer. 12/7/2006

This is the first time I have written a review. There aren't many restaurants I would write a review on. Throughout college I worked as a waitress, so I tend to enter restaurants with a preconceived opinion upon my first impression. However, this is not the case, I have been dining here since the late 70's and have been bringing my children f or the last 10. They too now love it as I do. We now live in Maryland and we frequently go through mexican food withdrawls. If I had the chance, I would open up a chain of el Farolito restaurants out here on the east coast. People here have no clue when it comes to preparing Mexican food. I lived in Mexico for 6 months and this food is the closest to the meals my Mexican family use to prepare for me. Try it once and you'll be hooked! My favorite meal is the chicken burrito. The red sauce is so yummy! Meals for children are appropriate and not so spicy, just as it should be. Park in the back if you do not find space in front. We will be visiting Placentia where I grew up this Christmas, and we plan to order El Farolito's best for our Christmas family dinner. \r I can't wait! Salud! Pros: great old ladies in the kitchen Cons: same ole mints after dining more

Sunday breakfast/brunch is the BEST 9/11/2006

The best thing about this place is that its casual and of course the food is so damn good! I've only been on Sunday's for breakfast, brunch, lunch whatever. The items on the breakfast menu are excellent. Chiliequiles are the best around!! Pros: Food, Service more

Best Mexican food and service in Orange County. Best Mexican food I've eaten anywhere. 8/20/2006

\r This is the best Mexican food and service at the most affordable prices. Everyone I've recommended El Farolito to has eaten there and agreed with me: they get a 10 Overall Rating and I'm pleased they received the Citysearch rating of ""Editorial Winner."" My coworkers and I regularly eat here as our first choice of restaurants. Treat yourself to the best of the best. My favorite is the Mamas Plate with one cheese enchilada, one shredded beef enchilada, rice and beans. The hot sauce they serve with their chips is the best I'm able to get anywhere. Enjoy! more

Authentic Mexican Food and Prices 11/14/2005

This is authentic Mexican. It doesn't get any better. The portions are large, and a great value with most entrees under $10. Outstanding food has kept me going back for years. more

Visiting from Oregon.... 7/27/2005

Found this place on Citysearch, and so we gave it a try. We were prompty seated, and the service was excellent. The food was as advertised, very good. I was a little worried about the location, but it was a very nice place and the bathrooms were in good shape. Good place to take family, highly recommended! Pros: Food, Service, Priced well Cons: Parking more
