Giant portions (not big, GIANT!), overpriced. 9/26/2010

I'm thinking the fish, ribs come from dinosaur sized animals. The prices are too high, it's almost like they're saying well we charge you this much because each plate can feed 3 grown man but problem is I didn't ask to feed 3 grown man, just one person. I've been to plenty of Newark/Ironbound restaurants that don't charge as much as them but also for the ones that do charge as much - the food tasted so incredible that I couldn't complain. The food tastes average overall. The meats/fish (blackened swordfish!) are DELICIOUS! But the rice, etc are just o.k. And you can blame that review on all the other great Spanish Restaurants in NJ. They all do such a great job that when you taste rice (paella) that's just average you end up disappointed. more

Lousy Service Crabby Waitress. 2/13/2010

The Service was the worst I have ever seen. The waitress was lazy cold and didn't care about us. She had her favorites and it was noticeable. I will never go back there again. Its nice they have big portions but that does not make a good restaurant. I almost walked out with my family. My kids were actually offended with this waitress attitude. I would rather travel to Newark to the Iron Bound section and to ""Spain"" Pros: Rice was good Cons: Lousy Service more

Need Better Servers 11/18/2009

Unfortunately, I did not feel that it is either unique or special. I have had better , the soup served was chicken noodle, very unusual for Spanish menu. I enjoyed my entree which was paella and my partner had a steak that was very good. The server, a woman, was not at all interested in doing her job. She finally came to get the plate with the discarded shells from the paella, but never brought back a new one! The service leaves much to be desired Pros: Food is good Cons: Disinterested servers more

Best Spanish FOod in Bergen County 4/13/2008

We have been going to El Cid's for many years and find the food very consistant. The prices are reasonable for the large quantities, and their blue cheese dressing is the best. Lunch is a good value if you want to avoid the crowds and still have a great meal at a good price. The sangria is very good and overall, we go about once a week. I would recommend it during a week night. Pros: Large portions, good food and excellent sangria. Cons: Can be very crowded and loud. more

BEST SPANISH FOOD AND BEST PRIME RIB 9/24/2007

The portions are HUGE and DELICIOUS. i would recommend highly. I went with a large party and everyone was satisfied and found something great on the menu. We never can order dessert. ..no room. The food is fresh, the sangria excellent the service superb. I look forward to going back. Pros: Great food, great service more

Difficult for me to judge for several reasons: 2/19/2007

The first two times I went here were amazing. Food was delicious, portions were huge, etc. It was simply going to be my favorite place to go. However, that all changed the next time I went. Pros: Great food, huge portions Cons: Don't trust their fish, iffy service, huge crowds more

overpriced, small portions 11/26/2006

Tiny portions, overpriced entrees and with lots of other choices why waste your money here. more

Spanish Steak House 7/3/2005

The prices are a little high (entrees $20-25), but the quality is definitely worth it. The meats are amazing. I had the veal prepared with sherry and chopped almond sauce -- it was soft and flavorful. Someone else had the special rib eyed steak also very tastefully prepared and soft. Another had the tenderloin cut-- it was like butter...the meat melted right in your mouth. Each entree was served with a large side of delicious Spanish rice, veggies, and homemade Spanish french-fries. We also had an order of the clams casino and an order of escargots. Although both appetizer selections were delicious, however to save money I suggest sticking with just the entrees. The portions are large and plentiful. The Sangria was refreshing but I definitely had better. If you are cost conscious, it is the best choice from the drink menu. A large pitcher is about $21. more

Best Spanish Cuisine in Bergen County!! 9/16/2003

You don't need to go to Newark to enjoy the finest Spanish cusine in North Jersey. El Cid is wonderful in all capacities...huge portions, wonderfully seasoned food, tasty sangria, and relatively inexpensive. I have been there with family, friends, and on romantic dates....great for any occassion and I have yet to be dissapointed in the quality of the food or it's service. Garlic afficionados will fall in love with the flavor of all of El Cid's dishes. Pros: Gigantic portions, Great Sangria, Very fresh seafood more
