Did you ever go someplace everyone raved about and wonder what the furor was all about? Welcome to the paradox of El Cholo. The place was crammed with people, and the food was less than memorable. I had a chicken enchilada, which was mediocre, but I was disappointed considering price we paid. I was expecting more. Expect to spend at least $35 or more per person if you get a decent dish, and margarita. I don't mind paying for good food, but I definitely left feeling that I paid more for the trendy venue, than anything else. Pros: Trendy Cons: Parking, Food, Pricy more

Best Chimis... 9/8/2002

Best chimichangas I've ever had. Nice and flaky instead of greasy. Food was excellent, but margaritas were a bit overrated. Not as strong and tasty as some I've had. The food and atmosphere more than make up for that though. Top notch! more

Watch out for those margarittas 6/24/2002

This is a great place to spend a sunny day drinking some amazing margarittas and eating authentic mexican food. You can bring along your pet and sit outside at the patio. Service can be a bit slow, but overall it's a very pleasant experience. more

Good food, but a scene 6/15/2002

This Santa Monica classic cal-mexican is a city favorite, and a major scene (judging by the throngs of loud, bleached 20-somethings found at the bar there most nights). While the food is good and reasonably priced, parking is valet-only and in short supply, and wait times for a table are generally long. But if you don't come hungry, you'll never finish the huge portions, so call ahead if you can. Pros: Good food, Decent prices, Plenty of seating Cons: Overrun with people, Bar stacked 7 deep, Loud more

Fantastic Mexican Food! 6/8/2002

El Cholo has simply amazing Mexican food. Your only worry will be eating too much. It's inexpensive for the value of the experience and the atmosphere is busy but laid back. It's a regular favorite of ours! Pros: Great Food, Fast Service of Food, Neat Atmosphere Cons: Only Valet, Busier than desirable more
