Spa Beyond Expectations 4/7/2009

I am not a typical spa person, but I am getting married next summer and have oily skin and some scarring that I want to have improved for the big day. I usually find spas to be a little intimidating, and not to mention in the city, the moment you leave, you are right back in the blaring craziness that is Chicago, which typically shatters the nice relaxed feeling you paid for. Egea is located up in Evanston, so it is a bit of a drive, but it’s worth it to be able to get a little better pricing and to be able to hold onto your relaxed feeling when you leave since you will step out onto the cute and quaint Evanston streets. Egea was not the typical spa to me. They were very friendly, and unpretentious. I also was able to really relate and feel comfortable with my facial technician. Best of all, she gave me useful advice and insight on my skin and how to take better care of it when at home. When I left, my skin was glowing (in a good way!) I strongly recommend for anyone like me who needs some extra love for their skin. Pros: Very friendly staff that gave useful advice Cons: A little bit of a drive from the city more

Nice spa!! 3/11/2009

I have been to Egea a few times, most recently when I received a gift certificate for Valentines Day which I used to get a massage (so relaxing!). The staff is always nice and helpful, and I have never had a bad experience. Overall I highly recommend Egea! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Worst Wax EVER 3/1/2009

I went there to get a Brazilian Wax, and it was by far the worst experience ever. Now, I am a regular waxer, so I know what to expect. The technician obviously had NO IDEA what she was doing, and it seemed she had never worked with wax before. She repeatedly waxed over the same spot (which is a no-no), which lead to a very painful rash that lasted for weeks afterward. The price was too expensive for the low quality of wax they use. The rooms were very small, and I could hear everything that was going on in rooms around us, as well as people talking outside of the hallway. The man I spoke to when I called to complain was horrible and did not offer me anything but a verbal apology, and said that there was nothing he could do. I will never go back to Egea and I would never recommend it to my worst enemies. Pros: None Cons: Everything more

beyond expectations 2/20/2008

I was having trouble with my zitty dry winter skin and decided to have a facial at Egea. I did not expect much other than the typical cleansing and exfoliating that I have experienced from other spas. To my surprise I was well informed during my analyzation of what was really going on with my skin and the few mistakes that I was doing to try to help it. The esthetician was highly educated and gave me some great suggestions to help my skin stay hydrated without breaking it out. I had a rejuvenating facial that incorporated the use of gentle glycolic acids to dissolves the old dead skin away. Her extractions were so gentle and the massage was amazing. I was left alone during my mask to relax to the soothing music that played over head. The room was small upon entering but only needing to lie on a bed with my eyes closed, I soon forgot that It was even winter outside. At the end of my service I was handed refreshing cucumber water and with no pressure to buy anything, was handed some professional samples to try at home. My skin felt truly rejuvenated and with no sign of extraction either. I highly recommend this cozy little spa in the North Shore. more

Worst Spa 2/12/2008

I have consistently been disappointed at this place. The level of service is sub-standard, the service is either arrogant, or there is lots of "fake cheerfulness" and customers get rushed. In addition, the massage rooms are tiny and the hallway is too narrow for two people to walk side-by-side. Their prices are fair, but overall it's definitely an experience to avoid. I had bought some gift certificates for a couple of my girlfriends before I went in myself, which turned out to be big mistake. It's only when I told them one day that I don't like this Spa at all, that they said they actually didn't either but didn't want to offend me since the certificates were gifts. Bottom line: There are so many good Spas in and around Chicago, why would anyone go there??? Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time and/or money at EGEA. more

Not Worth It 1/14/2008

I received a gift certificate to Egea Spa. Upon arriving, I found rude front desk staff. They didn't even look up from their computers to greet me. When I went up to check in the woman said "Just a minute" again no eye contact. Am I bothering her? Is this an interruption of her computer time? Finally I was ushered into the bathroom to change in front of 4 other women in a 4 foot square area. The therapist came to get me and put a stinky warm neck thing on me. It really smelled! Then we walked through the labyrinth of a building to the massage room. The blanket had stains on it and the sheets were so worn and thin you could see through them. The massage was decent, but for the money, I would rather feel like I was in a sanitary environment. I went to Frances to have my nails done. She was abrupt and rude. My nails were okay but again, the sterilization process left much to be desired. When I noticed they used the same utensils without sterilizations from person to person more

This was the worst spa experience of me life!!! The room smelt, the staff was rude, and the prices where outrageous!!! I was given a gift certificate and was excited to use it...until I walked into the spa and the girls at the front desk didn't greet me...they looked at me and went back to what they where doing...Finally I had to say "Excuse me" and her reply was "What" (in a snobby voice) Then it actually went downhill from there!!! Next time I get a gift Certificate to Egea I am going to say" No Thanks" more

Fabulous spa experience! 1/16/2007

Egea is wonderful! I've been there about six times for massages and once for a pedicure. It is clean, beautiful and soothing. The music is lovely. The massage therapists have all been very professional, not overly talkative. I have been extremely pleased with the services. My teenage daughter has also gone for massages and loves Egea, too. They provide robes and slippers, upscale magazines, water, mints and nuts. The atmosphere is really great! more

Great Spa! 11/20/2006

I have been going to Egea Spa regularly for about a year now, I usually just get my nails done but occasionally I will splurge on a facial or massage. The staff is friendly and professional they always do a great job on whatever service I am getting, and I always leave feeling relaxed. I would absolutely recommend Egea Spa. more

Terrible bikini wax 10/6/2006

Do NOT go here for a bikini wax!! The technician was rude, the wax was too hot, and I walked away with a completely uneven wax. It looks horrible! more
