Eden Plains has a large selection of plants and I like to walk around at look at everything. They have some good deals and often have a coupon in the Penny Saver. Beware -- if you go on a day when the weather is not good, they might not be open. I went when it was starting to drizzle and they had closed up shop. more

We asked for a free estimate on the landscaping project for our backyard. Eden plains nursery employee Tino assured us in providing an estimate and a pre-engineered comprehensive landscape plan. He asked us to pay upfront $400.00 for this plan. A week later he came back and handed us a childlike rudimentary drawing without any scale or details. The drawing had a few shapes on 8 by 11 piece of paper: a square as our house, lines for the pathways and dots for a few trees. It was a joke not a plan... He did not provide us with any formal estimate for the project reflecting the phases of it: irrigation system work, installation of the sprinkles, sod installation etc as we asked. Instead he just threw a number for the cost of the entire project and did not explain how did he arrive at this number. Moreover, the nursery refused to refund our $400.00 explaining that Tino did not work on preparing our estimate for free. Eden Plains Nursery is on the very edge of Brentwood, between Knightsen and the unincorporated agricultural area. It can be very hard to find because there are no signs that are easy to see out front, but I think that is because they are under construction right now. The last time I visited had to be the hottest day of the year, and although most of the plants looked ok, there were a few that they refused to sell or that were not looking very lively. They are known for good, local plants that are used to the hot, drought-like conditions in the Delta area.
