I'm a little confused why anyone would even bother reading half of these reviews, they are written by someone who hardly speaks English. I go to Duffy's once every other week or so and always get a strong jack & coke with a delicious burger and attentive wait staff. I suppose a few people had bad experiences, but someone is obviously just repeatedly posting nonsense . I'm going to continue to go to Duffy's and encourage you to do the same..I think their food is better than pipers, tap city, and o dwyers in the area. more

Are they for real? They serve everything with potato chips!!! (Sandwiches) UH? If you want anything besides chips or if you substitue anything you are charged for it. Swapping sauerkraut for coleslaw and there is a charge? Food is below my standards. Go across the street to Piper's Tavern and get a real meal for a fraction of the price. the food is good . Not the waitstaff. I saw a table of 3 people get better service than my table. No tip at all. The waitstaff not volunteer to do much. I had to ask the staff to write down the order,bring me more silverware(clean),drink, my bill, and a bigger salad plate. I frequent Duffy's mainly for lunch and I have to say that whoever wrote the other reviews on this page must be crazy. Danielle has to be one of the most fabulous waitresses on the planet! She consistently provides excellent service to me and everyone else that I see in the restaurant. Dan always remembers our drink orders and has them waiting at the table as soon as we walk in the door. He always greets us with a smile and constantly checks our table - even when someone else is waiting on us. Megan is absolutely awesome also. She never fails to go out of her way to make sure that everything we need is taken care of. As far as the food goes - we have never had a bad dish at Duffy's and at one time or another we have ordered pretty much everything on the menu. I personally think that a large portion of the reviews on this site are written by some sad, sad person with an axe to grind because service in North Raleigh doesn't get much better than Megan, Dan, and especially Danielle. Danielle rude to table of one person. Saw her nicer to table with more than one person. She rushed to get rid of the one guest. When brought the meal. Asked if the one female guest needed anything more. And not start to eat,person. When she brought the meal check receipt. Put on table and ran away. The restaurant not busy at all. She spends most of time in the kitchen or talking to co-workers. She tries to run away fast from customers. Rushes them to order. My wife and I enjoy trying new restaurants in Raleigh, but the place we stop in most frequently (since it opened in 1996) is Duffy's--and most frequently order a Duffy Burger, one of the best burgers in town (with lettuce, tomato, sauteed mushrooms and two slices of bacon--you almost can't pick it up). \r \r We have never been in the bar, but it is BUSY, so if the parking lot is just about full, there probably are still tables (or roomy booths) in the restaurant side. As far as the smoke mentioned by a couple of reviewers, I'm very sensitive to it, but I only notice it in the entry (just down from the bar doorway) and the restaurant is smoke-free. We don't go for the decor, which is nothing special--we go for the very good, very reasonable food and good service. The portions are ideal, not so big you are tempted to overdo, but not small at all. \r \r The burgers and sandwiches come with ruffled chips (holds down cost and calories), but if you order a side of fries or the excellent onion rings, plan on sharing! If you like shrimp, try the Shrimp Burger--a hamburger bun overloaded with large shrimp, perfectly batter fried. The salads are plenty to eat, freshly made and less expensive than the chain casual places everywhere. All the soups are tasty, not too salty, and the she-crab really is special--don't miss it! The desserts are mostly sized to share, like the cherry or berry cobblers (a la mode, of course!) but again, priced less than the chains. The daily specials top out at $12-$15 and, while not ""gourmet,"" are very nicely done, served hot and always a good value. I like good sweet tea, and Duffy's is perfectly refreshingly sweet--and unlimited.\r \r The big guy with the deep voice who asks you how everything was is Duffy--and those big oak booths that can hold a family of six must have been church pews. Note: they do accept American Express.\r \r Bottom line: great place for very good food at very good prices, just not fancy. the longest booth benches I have ever seen they easily seat 5 - now that's a bench! Excellent rotating specials - the blackened anything is very good, Rib night is excellent, the fresh fruit side is always top notch. I never go in the bar so I can't speak to that. I have become a regular there, not because of its convenience, but because its friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere are a welcome relief to north raleigh hectic paced dining. Upon reading the reviews here, a large group of us, ages ranging from mid 20's to late 30's, decided to give Duffy's a try, karaoke on Saturday night, why not? That is a question that I unfortunately am now able to answer. As soon as you walk through the door, your are overwhelmed by a scent of nursing home, you know, that smell that you remember as a little kid every time you visited your extended family. Actual setup of the bar/restaurant, not horrible, so we decided to stay, have some brews and eat some sandwiches. Enter our second mistake! While the food tasted decent, I got the Turkey Reuben with slaw, the sickness that it induced did not taste well. At about 2:30AM, the reuben came back the way it went down, and let me tell you, it was not pleasent. Now lets move on to the patrons...average age 55, average level of karaoke singing, 5 years old, absolutely pathetic!!!! To see a bunch of mid life crisis level adults acting as belligerent as they were, completely pathetic!!!! Needless to say, we will not be going back to Duffy's and I warn you to follow suit and do the same! Question yourself as to whether or not you feel like purging all night from horrible food and partying with people stuck in the early 80's, if so, Duffy's is where its at!!! New to the area..Came from Carelston, SC....Someone highly recommended this place so I went. Wow can't even begin to explain how good this place is I have already gone at least 20 times and i moved in July..Great Service, Food is amazing, Really nice bar with HD, good variety crowd...Im from SC i know good she crab..i can proudly say this is the top 3 she crab soups i have ever had...Probabaly my favorite restaurant now.. I love Duffy's. As a new comer I was a little skeptical, but I was impressed. The food is amazing. Best burgers, she crab, and the daily specials are great! Restaurant was family friendly and the bar is very fun. I love the pool room! They seem to have a lot going on in the bar (saw signs for Thursday Trivia, Friday Live DJ, and Saturday Karaoke).I also had excellent service. All the wait staff was very friendly and welcoming! Small, dark, cozy little soup-n-sandwich pub. I live 2 minutes away. Duffy's is my living room. And everyone's right, BEST she-crab this side of Jupiter. Good burgers too. I know Dan, the waiter... he's great! I knew waitress Gina for years and she's such a sweetheart, but unfortunately, she's gone. The other waitresses are so nice (except the tiny thin one... she's RUDE!) (we told her our cokes were flat and she said ""No they're not!"" When I told her to see for herself, she rudely snapped ""I'm not drinking your drink!""). I don't go to the bar area because I don't have a gas mask in my car, and I don't want to contract lung cancer tomorrow. I bring all my friends to Duffy's but I have to warn them of the smoke that can waft into the dining area. Besides the smoke (they really need to update their ""smoke go away"" machine), my only complaint is that they give you 3 drops of salad dressing, then CHARGE YOU for more dressing!! I HATE that. Food was great! But it's the only positive.The service was pretty bad, and the other patrons were some of the worst I've had the displeasure of being around.
