Chef David Bull has gotten a lot of press lately, and the Austin Statesman just named the Driskill Grill the best restaurant in the city.
So, are they exaggerating? Nope, not at all! The food is remarkably good, and the waitstaff was the best I've come across yet.
If you're not rich or working with an expense account, this is a very pricey restaurant. But for VERY special occasions, it's worth every penny.
The ONLY caveat I offer is that the restaurant is a bit nosier than I'd have expected (there were several large, talkative parties), which means that, while the ambience is elegant, it's not necessarily an ideal place for a romantic evening. So, IF you want to take a loved one there for a romantic evening, be sure to call ahead for a reservation and ask for a (relatively) secluded table, where you can have an intimate conversation.
Pros: Magnificent food, attentive service
Cons: very expensive, a bit noisy
