This was a complete bathroom remodel in a small, oddly shaped, and far from squared off (house was built in 1894) room. The room was brought all the way down to lathe and then built up again into a completely modern bathroom, including a glass enclosed shower with pebble tiles on floor and wall. A particularly nice touch was glass block over a former window in the shower area that lets in loads of light.
The total job (not including the shower glass) took about 16 days, which was fine because this was not our primary bathroom. During construction, the workmen consulted me on nearly every choice point (in particular, we spent a long time deciding how wide the shower needed to be), but after a while that was barely necessary because I had complete confidence that they were going to do the best job they possibly could. I, in turn, consulted them on many design and aesthetic issues. They came up with creative solutions to issues related to the room shape (e.g. matching tiles on straight and slanted walls) and installed everything exactly according to my instructions.
This was by far the most pleasant contracting experience we have ever had. You know how there is a point in a project where no matter how good your relationship with the contractor, you're both just totally fed up with each other. That never happened on this job.
Pros: Very easy to work with, high quality workmanship.
Cons: Electrical subcontractor did a couple of stupid things.
