If you need more than just shots or pet food; please be careful. Dr Mike has a bad rep with all other services! more

Very caring and conscientious! 4/26/2011

We went to Dr. Mike for an emergency - our 17 year old boycat was in obvious distress and Dr. Mike was the closest vet to our house. Unfortunately, our boy had to be euthanized - Dr. Mike was compassionate and kind, taking us in right away even though we had not been to his office in the past. He told us what he felt was happening with our cat and explained our options and what he could do. And, while you hate to have to think of a budget when something like this happens, the fact is that Dr. Mike could've pretty much charged us an arm and a leg at the time and we would've done just about anything to make our guy feel better. Due to his age and his obvious discomfort, we chose to put him to sleep - and Dr. Mike was amazingly reasonable for this service as well as disposal. I don't know what we would've done without his compassion and reasonable pricing. I was very pleased with my previous vet, but I will be using Dr. Mike for all of my future pet care needs - he really cares for the animals and would rather see them treated well than make the extra money - and that meant everything to us at a very difficult time. I can't oversell his kindness - he was just wonderful! more

Very Happy with the Vet 1/10/2011

My husband and I just came back from the 2011 Sugar Bowl. We stayed in the french quarter. The hotel we stayed at didn't allow dogs, so we boarded our Golden Retreiver with Dr. Mike. We went in the mornings and walked her at the Cabrini (sp??) Dog Park. \r Dr. Mike cautioned us about some previous incidents at the dog park, however we found it alright and the dog owners were ""supervising"" their dogs well. We were pleased with Dr. Mike. It was obvious that he was caring and concerned for our dog. His rates are reasonable. He was recommended to us by our hotel owner/manager and I would recommend him, too. more

Beware and Verify for yourself 5/24/2010

With all due respect to the references that have been placed here before, I must disagree and advise that you seriously consider rather or not this is the vet for you. Especially, if you are looking for a new Vet.\r Based on references, I left my dog with this vet for two nights and to have his yearly shots updated.\r The happy healthy dog came back to me covered in marks and flea bites. He was crawling with fleas!!! I have never seen so many on something that is a domesticated animal.\r My dog was two weeks away from his next Frontline treatment, and I had to call my old vet to make sure I could give it to him early. My dog was covered from head to toe in bites and fleas. \r The vet disregarded his updated rabies tags, and the history I provided to him from the other vet. He gave my dog an addtional rabies booster, event though he had one a month prior.\r This maybe a good vet, if you are already one of his patients, but I would recommend to anyone else. Think twice! Cons: All more

Dr. Mike is always avaialable and super nice, both my dogs love him and he is so reasonably priced. We have used Dr. Mike for over 7 years and never had any problems. Pros: Great Dr. more

great vet 4/27/2008

Great, friendly, and caring vet. Affordable rates. Dr. Mike operates the place top to bottom, since the storm. So, if you call, he might not be available to answer. We walked in with our cat and he was able to see us in ~15 min. Pros: fast, affordable, service Cons: occasionally hard to reach by phone more

most caring vet i have ever gone to 11/8/2007

i have now relocated to houston and the thing i miss most is dr. mike's animal house. my cocker spaniel loved him more than any vet we have ever gone to, and if you have a cocker your know that you go often. he charges very reasonable rates unlike others and my dog was cured with one visit rather than being strung along. Pros: great atmosphere, clean Cons: finding parking on rampart more

most humane doctor performing a community service at a reasonable price 8/7/2007

My sister was Lark Bennett. My sister was honored by the SPCA and the city of New Orleans after her death for her humane acts performed on behalf of animals and those in need. \r \r She many times found homes for the SPCA dogs or groomed them so they could find homes. DR. MIKE worked with my sister performing every service he could to help sometimes for free or at little cost when compared to the vet prices which are through the roof. \r \r I know you are grieving sir, but you are wrong about this DR Mike. He is a devoted lover of animals.\r \r I am sorrry for your loss. \r Pros: this doctor is above and beyond duty in his service to animals. his prices are very low. Cons: none. more

Put my dog to sleep without permission 5/14/2007

First I must respond to the other review - YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!\r \r Nietzsche was only 54 lbs....he was not unruly...He had fear aggression and dr. mike is a vet....nietzsche had been boarded with him 8 other times without any difficulties....who should i have trusted with my dog? he had enough medication to euthanize my dog, he could have given him a tranquilizer if there was a problem and taken him with him...there was no reason for him to euthanize my dog and I resent your comments...you have no idea about my dog's personality and you have no idea how dr. mike treated me after the entire situation....he was open for business less than 1 week after killing my dog!....I hope that he never does to you what i had to go through, then maybe you would respect my feelings and my dog's life a little better...to tell me that my dog was put to sleep b/c he was too big to evacuate with is disgusting and a cop out\r \r I had boarded my dog prior to Hurricane Katrina (not for the hurricane) and was supposed to return to the city on 8/27 - the hurricane first landed where i was in florida and my flight was cancelled. I tried driving back, but the roads were closed....dr mike assured me that everything would be okay, that my dog was on the second floor and that the building was secure....the next call i get from him is to tell me that he evacuated, but put my dog to sleep because he was too big to take with him. .. he was only a 50 lb dog. \r \r Dr. Mike is a murderer!!!! Do not trust him with your dogs. I hate myself for ever leaving my precious dog with him and will never forgive him. He was rude and disrespectful to me after the whole situation and was never apologetic. The vet board agreed with me and said that he unlawfully put my dog to sleep without permission and no medical reason for it. All I ever wanted from Dr. Mike was an apology for killing my baby and he could not care less.....do not give him a chance to do it again. Pros: my dog liked him Cons: he murdered my dog more

The Best Pet Care 5/14/2007

As a client of Dr Mike's Animal House, I wish to respond to the review claiming Dr Mike to be a murderer. He is not nor ever could be a murderer. The person writing the review was not even in the city when Katrina stormed upon the city. I stayed and did not leave untill forced out due to civil unrest. Dr Mike stayed and cared for the animals in his care during, after, and beyound. He left the city four days after the storm with pets that were under his care. The one animal that Dr. Mike left in his clinic was a dog of 65lbs and and very unruly. Dr. Mike had to make a choice of taking this unruly animal or other people in his neiberhood who had no other way out. His deleima also was wether to leave this unruly animal behind with enough food and water to survive untill animal rescue arrived. Animal rescue did not show up at his clinic untill four weeks later. Putting the dog to sleep was the most humane thing. Dr Mike could of done. The dog would of starved to death which is certainly less humane. I trust my animals any day with Dr Mike than with anyone else. BTW, I was there. Pros: thumbs up, convienent more

Dr. Mike MURDERED dogs left in his care when he evacuated after Katrina 8/22/2006

Dr. Mike needlessly murdered two dogs (maybe more - still being investigated) that were in his care when he evacuated for Katrina, after being told by the owners that he DID NOT have their permission to do this. They begged and pleaded with him not to murder their dogs. \r \r As a Vet he had/has an ethical and moral obligation to his ""patients."" He could have taken the dogs to any one of many emergency shelters set after Katrina, including SAF on Magazine St.\r \r These two beloved dogs were family members and their owners are devestated. \r \r Vets from all over North America WENT TO New Orleans immediatly after Katrina to help with rescue and provide care for the animals that had to be left behind, yet Dr. Mike left town and destroyed animals in his care. \r \r I can't believe this murderer still has a license to practice vet medicine in Louisiana or anywhere.\r more
