We are trying to find out if our fireplaces can be reopened, fixed and used, or how best to make them usable (eg - fireplace inserts). This was indicated to the folks by phone and in person. The "inspector" did not get on the roof to look at the chimney, or into the attic to check it out. He didn't even look at the fireplace on the first floor, or into the chimney on the second floor, which would have required taking some weather-blocker out...not difficult. He told me I should get my basement water-proofed. How is this related to the fireplace situation, exactly? He did say the fireplace box was too small for actual fires (which is suspect from the start as the house was built in 1915 and the fireplaces would have been a major source of heat at the time). He was pleasant, but not at all helpful.j For this I paid $90.
