Downing Street Playgroup

This school has been a fantastic experience for our whole family. Our son loves both of the teachers and looks forward to going to school - who could ask for more. The parent participation was a big draw for us. We get to be involved in our child's education which, at such a young age, is important to us. A great experince to see our child's development month to month. more

Just like the children who attend, Downing Street Co-op is small but unquestionably charming. The teachers are creative and the parents are involved--it makes for a great nursery school experience. The warmth and charm at Downing Street are worth more than five stars. I have sent 2 children there and could not have wished for a better introduction to school. The environment is caring, nurturing, inviting, and refreshingly outside of the craziness that nursery school in Manhattan can become. more

It was really by coincidence that I heard about this wonderful school. It is not as widely promoted as some of the other preschools out there, partly due to its modest size, but I can highly recommend to check it out. more

I love this school! This is my daughter's second year, and it's even better than the first. She has learned so much - at 3 years old she is writing quite well - and I give all the credit to the two amazing teachers. They have endless patience and show the children so much kindness. They develop excellent lesson plans and make learning so much fun. The space the school occupies, while small, is chock full of engaging toys, books, and activity areas, but at the same time, all well-organized. This school is a co-op, so parental involvement is required - if you do not want to be a part of running a school effectively, then do not apply to the Downing Street Playgroup. However, if you do want to be involved in your child's early education, and want to spend time in their class, then this is the school for you. You will not regret it! Pros: Excellent Teachers; proximity to a cute, enclosed playground Cons: limited hours, but then again, this is not a daycare! more
