Delicious Texas style barbeque 9/25/2006

This place is so good. Yummy, I love their barbeque chicken and be sure and get some bananna pudding. Man, I am getting hungry thinking about it. You don't eat here though you get it to go although one time I couldn't wait and ate my chicken in my car. I like their spicey sauce too. This is the best barbeque I have had in the bay area! Pros: delicious barbeque and sides, desserts and the sauce three to choose from Cons: Must get it to go! more

it's no Flint's 9/11/2005

I really do miss Flints so maybe I'm just biased that said -- in my most recent search for good BBQ I stumbled across Dougs. While it is not the worst BBQ in the Bay area --theres nothing special there. We ordered pork ribs (sandwich size) and the 2-way platter with lamb and brisket. Total about $25. The pork ribs where passable but the sauce (we ordered the hot was not and had a cloying sweetness, a sense of too much MSG and the favors were not well blended.) As for the lamb and brisket couldnt tell which was which (or maybe they accidentally left out one) but it was really (grossly) fatty (you couldnt even see the sauce through melted fat.) In the end the combo was put away unfinished, and we ate the ribs (passable in a pinch but not the stuff of dreams) more

great bbq take-out 7/27/2005

Really great beef ribs! They also have fried turkey, which many of the bbq spots don't have. Very nice people too. Pros: delicious Cons: take-out more

Great Meat 11/4/2003

Go to Doug's for the meat and sauce. It has been consistant and memerable. Don't go there for the sides. The potato salad is sweet, spagetti is southern style overcooked. more

don't get the links 9/14/2003

Most everything is VERY good at Doug's. From the ribs to the smoked turkey to the goat (yes goat - quite interesting and delicious), it is all very tasty. If I had to say what to avoid, though, it would be their links. They are kind of tough and really resemble a hotdog more that a nice fat juicy link. Oh well, everything else is dynamite! Pros: tasty food, easy parking, good value Cons: the links, rough neighborhood more

MOST MISSED FOOD FROM THE BAY AREA 1/16/2003

After living in Oakland for 15 years last living there in 1996, I can really say that Doug's is the most missed food from my living there in the Bay Area. Actually it was the only food that I could keep in my stomach while I was going through my first few months of pregnancy. So it will always be a good memory for me and my husband which is from Oakland. Pros: transportatiion Cons: needed more off stree more

Lunch time 3way 12/14/2002

From 11:30 to 2 Doug's offers their 3-way Special.Pork ribs, sliced beef, chicken, patatoe salad&bread. The beef is juicy and tender and the ribs fall off the bone.Service is quick and this is stricktly takeout.Get extra napkins. Some of the best BBQ in the eastbay, in my top 5, on par with EJ's on SPA.Offers bbq goat and does deep fried turkeys . Pros: quick service, good value, tasty Cons: parking more

worth the trip 7/31/2002

  • In Short
The once-shoddy storefront has been cleaned up with fresh paint and a sign proclaiming "BBQ" in large cut-out letters. Doug's is takeout only, so the interior decor is sparse. Go with the usual sausage, chicken, or ribs, or be a bit adventurous and try lamb or turkey meat. Hot, medium and mild sauces help to find the perfect balance for any palate, and sweet potato pie for dessert comes highly recommended.
