Great, homey place 7/17/2009

First of all, I'm surprised a couple other's haven't had a good experience at the Haus. This restaurant is very good, and very reasonable. This is not Ti Amo's or Cucina Alessa--it's terrific old-school Italian traditional, at 1990's prices. If you'd like to go out for dinner, can't think of where to go that's reasonable, and not fast food--the Haus is the place to go. Let's keep 'em in business. They are very popular, FYI. (Specials every night--posted on their website (Doria's Haus of Pizza.) Favorites are: Linguini with nice, garlicky white wine clam sauce, panzerotti night (2-meals on 1-plate), and pizza. BTW, the pizza is very good. Perhaps the tastiest pizza cheese in OC. Fresh, yeasty, cheesy yumminess. Pros: Solid Family Italian more

Rude manager 4/4/2009

The manager, Holly, one Saturday night, made me, a paying, repeat customer, feel very unwelcome. She chewed out an employee named Aaron in front of me, for simply being friendly to me while I was outside waiting for my take-out pizza. He was simply asking a question and making me, a 60 year old, feel welcome and appreciated. In turn, he was taken to task by his manager, Holly, in front of me. When I asked her about it, she said, flatly, ""I don't have to justify myself to you. This conversation is over."", and walked away. She needs to learn how to have fun and smile a bit. Pros: Pizza Cons: Unfriendliness more

WORST ITALIAN sketchy place in costa mesa. 1/20/2009

THIS PLACE has the WORST!!! Service and they over charge you. Their daily ""Specials "" say one thing and they charge you normal price. STEER CLEAR of this place, unless you want to be attended to by bad attitude and overpay for your meal. more

What were those two reviewers talking about? 1/8/2009

Two previous reviewers rated only a single star. They must have this place confused with someplace else. One complained about their pizza not being cut all the way through. Holy mackerel.....I believe that everyone has had a pizza like that! No sweat....just finish the cut yourself! Nice people, good food, they have just outgrown their digs. Pros: Nice people/terrific food Cons: Hard to find a parking space sometimes. more

Good stuff! 7/30/2008

I have been here many times, and not once was I disappointed. I have had their pastas and pizza. The pasta is not as good as Olive Gardens, nor is their Pizza as good as Round Table. However, for the price and the service, it is worth the trip. more

Amazing pizza 1/25/2008

this pizza was awsome!!!! hot, cheezy, flavorful, and generously topped!! the slices were cut all the way through and the slices were evenly cut. i totally recomment it to anyone, especially with a side of ranch!! more

Homey and good 10/24/2007

I live near and have eaten at Haus for years. I love their pizza. They put lots of toppings on their pizza and the wait staff are always really nice. It's casual and I always see neighbors. They support their community, so during little league or soccer season the back room can have a team or two filling it up. We should support small family owned businesses. Pros: good pizza, neighborhood place more

Yuk... 9/17/2007

I paid $13.09 for the worse takeout pizza ever. First they didn't even take the time to cut it all the way. Only the top and the edges of the pizza were cut, not the bottom crust of the pizza. Talk about being lazy... They also didn't even come close to cutting the pizza symetrical. You ended up having one really small lop-sided halfway cut piece of greasy you know what. The kind of pizza I bought was called a house special (they don't have a supreme or anything like it) it was onions, mushrooms, sausage, and pepperoni. The box that the pizza came in was even cheap and flimsy. The pizza dough was also terrible. It tasted like instant dough from a jiffy box. If I lived closer to the pizza place I would of took the thing back I was so disappointed. more

Very decent pizza, but nothing to write home about. 3/27/2007

I found this list on CitySearch that said that Haus of Pizza was the number 1 pizza as chosen by the fans. So, since I work just 1 mile from them, I immediately drove down there for lunch. We ordered a small Pepperoni pizza. It arrived in 10 minutes or so. The service was very good and the place was not overly crowded. The pizza was what I like to call ""Generic American"" style. It is not thin crust like New York or Italian pizza and not deep dish like Sicilian or Chicago style. It was average thickness like Domino's or Pizza Hut. Now,the pizza was good. I might even say that it was very good, but after reading that it was the best pizza in the county, I was sorely dissapointed. If you want great New York Pizza, go to New York Upper Crust Pizza. For original, unique pizzas, go to California Pizza Kitchen. For great Italian PIzza, go to Roma D'Italia. I am still looking for great Chicago Pizza in Orange County. more

YUMM!! 1/6/2007

Now, I'm no pizza connoisseur ... but when I ate a slice of thier pizza ... I died and went to heaven. 100% worth all the calories. Watch out for the big lines on weekend. more

Most Overrated Pizza in the World 12/9/2006

So I tried their pizza and pasta (with those pink sauce), and I am left with bitter disappointment. The pizza is nothing like Chicago or New York style. In fact, it has no style at all. It's just some canned stuff being placed on top of a lump of thick, dry, dough. The pink sauce is just some watered down version of alfredo sauce with tomatoes. Maybe they just had an off day with their pizza but good pizza parlours should have never screwed up this badly. Next time, if I want pizza made with such mediocrity, I'd take my kids to Chucky Cheeses. Pros: Near Paul Mitchell so I could do my hair Cons: Everything about the food more

BEST MOM AND POP RESTAURANT 7/17/2006

YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS PLACE! BEST PIZZA AND PASTAS, PLUS EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE. I HAVE EATEN AT THIS PLACE FOR THE LAST YEAR NON-STOP EVERY WEEKEND. HOWEVER, SET ASIDE TWO TO THREE HOURS FOR PARKING, WAITING TO BE SEATED AND TO ENJOY EVERY MORSAL!!! ENJOY!!!!!! more

Not the best but very very good 5/16/2006

A working man's pie loaded with cheese sauce and toppings. Very good pizza. I highly recommend this place. more

You'd think you were in Chicago or New York 2/16/2006

This is the best pizza ever. Who would have though little Orange County held this secret. It's also a fun date spot because it is super casual and laid back. I love getting take out -- and they have great specials almost every night of the week. Try the Panzarotti on Wednesdays -- very sausage-y. more

This place has the best scungillis!!! My petite find and I have been coming here for 3 years, and we love it!!! more

Pizza and Pink Sauce! 7/12/2005

I've been going to this great little family-style restaurant for years and not only is the pizza great they also give you the option of delicious ""Pink Sauce"" on their ""to die for"" pastas. It's a combination of their red tomato sauce and their white Alfredo sauce. Another reviewer checked ""No"" for Romantic, but I think having scrumptious pizza or pasta and nice wine in one of the booths in the back room across from the little bar is totally romantic! Pros: Superior Food, Great service, Reasonable prices Cons: No Reservations, Usually Crowded, A Little Noisy more

Fugettaboutit! 5/21/2005

Yo. This is the JAM! Best pizza on the West Coast. Period. Pros: Pizza more

Best of West 4/26/2005

Probably best pizza on West Coast. Homestyle Italian that rivals any. more

Veggie Pizza 1/21/2005

We have been going to this little restaurant for at least 15 years and they have the most AWESOME veggie pizza. We order it with extra garlic and *mwah* it is wonderful!!! If you get addicted to it...you can blame us! We've never had anything other than excellent pizza/food/service there and they're always on time when we order for takeout. (Try the tortellini!) Pros: Good parking, Very Reasonable $ more

The Best Pizza 12/23/2004

Hands down the best pizza you will find in all of orange county (and probably LA too). Nice mom & pop type atmosphere.. gets pretty crowded on weekends. The pizza is amazing and the pastas are good too. more
