Doran's Is A Goo Choice 6/12/2011

I'm an occasional visitor to Doran's and everything I've purchased has been freshly picked with flavor that far exceeds the grocery store products. If you are fortunate to live within driving distance, you are lucky. As far as the persong that thinks they were treated unfairly, get a clue!!!! As soon as you peel the corn open it begins to dry out. Farmers frequentiy run on tight margins and if you open two ears of corn and only buy one you have stole half their profit. Why would you think it is OK to do that to the farmer. If you feel entitled to destroy a farmer's produce by drying out half the corn ... stay away. What Doran's does let you do is peel the corn and they provide plastic bags for the peeled ears of corn. on the unlikely chance that you peel an ear and find a bad one, show it to them. If you peel an ear and there is nothing wrong with it ... then you should pay for it ... not put it back. Enjoy Doran's! Thousands of people enjoy Doran's and they understand and respect the farmer's efforts and do not want to hurt the local farmer by damaging their produce and drying out the corn. Also, make sure to try the watermelons and peaches. more

not the whole story 1/29/2011

I have been going to Doran's for decades. I have heard the staff there talk to customers about pulling back the husks on the corn many times. This is mostly because those who do that leave the ears of corn open. I have never heard anyone say anything to a customer about that without also saying that if you cut off the end because of it not being filled out (which has also been explained as that way because of lack of rain) or because of worm damage, please take extra ears to make up for the lack of full ears. About the price. Yes they are a bit more than Giant Eagle. The difference is that corn picked at Dorans is picked fresh every day. How long has it been on the shelf at the grocery? All in all, it is a great place to buy local and readily edible produce. more

Bad Customer service, High Prices 8/2/2010

I agree with the previous reviewer. The lady that works there is not very nice at all. I thought maybe she was just having a bad day the first time she was rude to me, but then it happened again and then a friend of mine was complaining that she had stopped there and been rudely advised that there was no reason to peel back the corn husks, She said ""if there was a bad place on the corn you just cut it off"". Well that's true but when your paying $5 a dozen for corn, you don't want to waste 1/2 ears by throwing it away! She rudely told me the same thing last year (that's when I thought I had caught her on a bad day). Since then anytime I stop there and she's working, I try not to ask a question because she's so mean. (I also made the mistake of asking when beans would be ready and got my head bitten off!) I kept going back because when she's not there, it's OK. The other people are nice enough, but I have now stopped shopping there because it's one thing to pay to much for produce (especially when Giant Eagle has local produce MUCH cheaper) but it's another to pay more and be spoken to like your an idiot. By the way, I was raised on a farm, by a farmer and we never sold produce without letting people check it out for themselves, we wanted them to be happy with their purchase. That doesn't seem to be the case here! Pros: Good produce Cons: Bad customer service, high prices more

not recommended 7/13/2010

I don't recommend this business. I went to this market thinking that there would be organic produce and also hoping that my son could pick berries. The lady that worked there was very rude when I asked her about picking season. I didn't realize that I would be inconveniencing this lady by asking her a simple question. The produce looked okay. I again apparently inconvenienced that staff by asking them if any of the produce was organic. The cold reply that I received was that NONE of their produce is organic and they use chemicals and pesticides on their crops. I picked a few things out to buy and the girls seemed too busy chatting with each other to wait on me. I would not recommend this place to anyone. After finding out that they use pesticides on their crops, I wouldn't have let my child pick the berries anyway. Cons: poor customer service, poor parking, nothing is organic more

Outstanding multi-color sweet corn picked fresh everyday 7/26/2009

The corn is mainly picked fresh every day and brought to the point of sales. Corn is like fish the closer you get it to the source the nicer the flavor and taste. Pros: Outstanding Quality and flavor! Cons: The Farm Market in Albany is a distance from Columbus Ohio more

Great Strawberry Picking 6/2/2007

If you ever wondered what strawberries should taste like, go to Doran's to either buy them from the Farm Market Store, or, better yet, pack up the kids and pick your own. Fortunately, they only weigh the box you carry through the field. . . they don't weigh you because you can eat while you pick! Call ahead for best picking times and crop (they have several varities of berries). Pros: Fun, fun, fun. Cons: none. more
