Editorial review from Citysearch 2/16/2013

We remodeled a kitchen in 2010 and bought most of the appliances from Don's. We visited all of the showrooms and talked to many of the sales people. Some of the items purchased were floor/demo models. The dishwasher (demo) required a service call. I was pleasantly surprised by the help and concern from the service department when scheduling the service call. The service technician arrived as scheduled and the dishwasher was repaired correctly. Keith was the salesperson that helped us with the purchase of the dishwasher and we appreciated working with him.\r We built a house in 2011 and bought all of the appliances from Don's. The blower motor did not function correctly when installed. Again, the service help from Don's was courteous and helpful. This was more challenging because the blower motor was installed on the roof. The service call required coordination with Don's and our installer to fix the motor.\r Because of the care and concern from Don's service group when our 15 year old Kenmore dryer needed service I called Don's and asked if they would service an appliance we did not purchase from them. They agreed and was able to fix the dryer. Don's called and asked if I wanted to move up the schedule date when they had a new opening in the schedule.\r This is a long review but wanted to share that all of my interactions with Don's Appliances has been positive and I will look to Don's to buy appliances in the future, primarily because in my experience Don's appears to be committed to service. more

BUYERS BEWARE! Beware that Don's appliances owns Hillmon Appliances in Cranberry Twp. Like the earlier reviewers, we sought to support a local business rather than a retailer. We bought 7 big ticket appliance from them all at once and had the most horrible experience with Hillmon's ""manager"" Keith. Horrible experience at Hillmon and with the ""manager"" Keith Tobin. Our refrigerator and stove were not delivered with the rest of our appliances on the due date. We were promised at the time of purchase that Hillmon would order the correct trim kit to fit one of our appliances to be built in. After sending out 4 installers at 5 different times over a month long period, our cabinets are damaged and the trim kit is still not installed. When I asked Keith if we could return the product, he said ""not gonna happen."" Simply amazing. We have holes in our cabinetry around one appliance. Through this entire month long process Keith has never apologized for the inconvenience of taking off our work time for almost 30 hours! Or for the many mess ups. He is certainly not the person to represent Don Hilldebrand. If my husband and I ran our business like this manager, we would be out of business! Very sad. more

Best Place to Purchase Appliances! 1/3/2012

We recently purchased all of our new kitchen appliances at Don's. We visited all the Don's Appliance showrooms several times and found their employees knowledgeable about their products, very helpful and kind. Don's delivery people offer the same excellent service as well, they were respectful and passed on new appliance tips to us when our appliance's were delivered. We love our new appliances and highly recommend Dons! more

Horrible Customer Service 6/6/2011

I thougth I was doing a good thing by buying from a local merchant, rather than a large store, boy was I wrong. I purchased over $4000.00 worth of appliances from Dons. I was made to feel that I was always bothering them to help me with anything. Also, talked to one of the owners about bad customer service, he was also rude to me. They could care less. Next time I will take my business to a large store. Very sad! more

Don's Appliances - Canonsburg 3/17/2011

I only gave Don's Appliance's at Canonsburg 1 star - didn't want to give them any. We bought all of our maytag kitchen appliances from them when we bought our new home. My appliances were less than 5 years old when my oven wouldn't hold the temperature that it was set at. I had a Don's Appliance repairman come to my home and he told me there was nothing wrong with it. I kept telling him that there was and finally he decided that I needed a new oven control panel (I think that was what it was called). The piece was expensive, and he told me to call Maytag directly, explain the problem and see if they would give me a break on the price. Maytag did give me a break on price - but it was still expensive. Don's Appliance came back to install it, but over a 7 month period - it didn't hold the temperature again. Try baking a pizza (or Christmas cookies) and have to stand over it and keep checking the temperature so that it wouldn't drop 40 degrees or so. After several calls to Maytag and than to Don's we were left very frustrated. Don's told us that since we ordered and got the piece directly from Maytag that they wouldn't honor any sort of warranty. What!!! They were the ones that told me to do it. At this point, we have decided rather than to pay again to have them come to our house and not fix the problem, that we will junk the stove that looks like brand new (broiler has never been used) and we have a new stove coming tomorrow from Bridgeville Appliance. more

Wonderful Shopping Experience 3/7/2011

I read the ""negative"" review that was posted on here and I laughed at it. Some people will never be happy about anything. We had the BEST shopping experience at Don's. We were recommended by our cabinet designer and we met with Nick at the St. Clair store. He was knowledgable, easy to talk to and a pleasure to work with. He emailed our quote to us at 10:30 in the evening and had the specs to our designer within 24 hours of our selection. The delivery guys were great and were very careful getting our new Subzero and Wolf range into our home with TLC. We have recommended Don's to everyone we know. more

Unfortunate experience 4/18/2010

When my husband and I were shopping for appliances, we opted to pay the extra money to get our appliances at Don's (rather than Sears or Lowe's), thinking that the small-business experience would pay off. What a mistake. We have never encountered such rude and condescending ""professionals."" We went in with some finance questions upon receiving our bill, and rather than helping us to work them out diplomatically, they spoke to us condescendingly and insulted our financial management. It was clear, from the outset, that our future business meant little to them. We are a young couple and, had the situation been handled differently, most likely would have bought all of our future appliances there. As aforementioned, their products are more money than at the typical chain store, but we thought Don's would make up for it with customer assistance and quality-control. Hopefully, by reading this review, we can save you the time, effort, and money by encouraging you to simply go with the big-name retailers, where you are treated as a respected customer--unlike at Don's. Pros: Good products, but same can be found for better prices Cons: TERRIBLE customer service more
