Best

I read these reviews dating back to 2008 and I think it's fair to say that any shop will have some good and some bad reviews and experiences.

Worst

I went in to have my hair cut and colored. The first time it took 3 hours which I assumed was because it was my first visit. I will say that my hair looked very nice when I left...

I'm afraid I have to agree in part with Caroline. ""Another thing I've noticed, she can't hold on to employees"". I have noticed this as well. I went to her salon for many years until I moved in 2005. My stylist was Andi who was wonderful. Most of the time it was just Donna and Andi and occasionally a nail tech. The prices were reasonable and they did take their yearly trips for the extra education. Andi learned new tips and tricks each year and I was always game for her to try new things on my hair... it always grows back. She never gave me a cut or color that I didn't love! \r \r Donna did my hair once when Andi wasn't available and I really needed it done right away. The cut was okay. Donna was flighty. She sold me a product that I never used. It made my hair greasy. Andi told me later that she would never use that on my hair and why. \r \r About 2 years ago I started thinking about moving back to Titusville and checked their website to see if Andi was still there. To my dismay there were new people. Periodically I checked in on the website and again there were new people. Once there was an Andrea but not my Andi. Not long after I checked again and she was gone. I moved back to the area last summer and again... new people. The turnover speaks volumes. I would love to come back as a client but I wonder what is going on in there! Andi never talked badly about the shop or Donna and they were always busy. I would love for someone to come on here and speak specifically about their stylist and if they followed them when they left. I live so close but I didn't click with Donna so I'm hesitant to give her a shot. So now I wait. My hair hasn't been cut or colored in a year because I need a recommendation to get started at a new shop or with a new stylist. \r \r Looking at the photos on their website, the interior hasn't been updated one bit in over 10 years.... unless the pictures are over 10 years old :) more

Great place, I always get a good cut there and it's convenient for me living in Titusville. Emily is currently my hairstylist and she is doing a fantastic job with me! Highly recommended!! more

I would just like to give a big shout out to all the wonderful staff at Donna Barnes and Friends Salon. It's not everyday four stylists will open the Salon on their day off to do a whole wedding parties hair and makeup. Well this is what happened for me. I was very grateful and everyone looked great! Thanks again for the amazing work! more

Re: Beware 2/23/2012

I couldn't have said it any better myself. I've been in this salon a few times, and never have I enjoyed the stale trail mix, or the crunch-less animal crackers. You WILL always wait on her, no less than thirty minutes, in her tacky outdated environment. Her hairstyles are always lacking that special touch, and seems to be stuck in the past. I was never satisfied with my color or cut. My highlights always had grey roots, they we're always brassy and or spotty. Over all i was never satisfied. Another thing I've noticed, she can't hold on to employees, but I'm guessing that's because she works them like they're animals..or as ""African Slaves."" This is a poor excuse for a salon, and does not represent Redken's Gold Salon standards. more

Get the service and results you are looking for. 2/21/2012

I have had great results over and over again with this salon. I have my hair cut and colored and often get complements when out and about town. The pricing is reasonable and I alway enjoy good conversation with Donna and the staff. more

beware 2/21/2012

The salon is dirty, never does is smell nice. The snacks left out for clients are normally stale crackers / old chocolate / or even some old left out fruit. Donna will always have her ipod playing music throughout the salon which is old 80's, youll hear the same songs every time your in there... Overall the salon is just outdated! old! Donna styles and colors will reflect the same results! Here is what you can expect: 1. You will always wait 30 mins to and hour on Donna. Then once your finally in her chair she will juggle doing your hair and someone else right next to you. She does not respect anyone's time or schedule! 2. She may be an hairstylist educator of sorts, But you will hardly ever get a good color change from her. She's horrible with blondes especially! And typically if she cant have one of her little assistant slaves blow you dry, she will half dry you herself. Typically by blowing the front of your hair dry, and leaving the back half done/damp/unstyled. 3. This salon is suppose to be about customer service, but i see more of the other stylists catering to Donna and the clients when they can. Donna's attitude towards her co workers is DISGUSTING!!! i feel horrible for her assistants (which are more like slaves). I would never recommended anyone working for her unless you like being treated like an African slave. 4. Lastly... after waiting an hour, getting brassy orange results (after being promised a Khaki to wheat color she calls it), a crooked eye brow wax, and being half blown dry.... she will then charge you well over $100 and stand around waiting for a tip. Do not visit this place if you want someone who really has your best interest! This women will ruin your day! more

if you have lots of time and lots of cash this is the place 6/7/2011

I went in to have my hair cut and colored. The first time it took 3 hours which I assumed was because it was my first visit. I will say that my hair looked very nice when I left. The second time I went in, this time it took 3-1/2 hours and now 3 people were working on it, so the final bill for a cut, color and eyebrow wax, $130.00. I couldn't believe it. The owner, Donna, had someone else in the shop style my hair which I had assumed she would do. Again, my hair looked very nice but it took too long and is way too expensive (because of having to tip three people). I made an appointment to go back again but decided to cancel and find somewhere else to go. I told the receptionist this thinking she would relay this to the owner who would then contact me and maybe we could clear this up. I was not opposed to going back again and having one person work on my hair and maybe we could get the timeframe down into the 1-1/2 hour range. Well, I was very surprised to never hear from her. Apparently business is very good in Titusville!! more

Wedding Party Success 5/18/2011

I booked my wedding party at Donna Barnes and Friends. I had four girls in my wedding party. I had an up do and my other girls just curls - lots of curls. We all had our make up done by Stacy. Stacy did my hair ~ She did a great job. I had so many compliments on my hair. I was VERY pleased with her. Tory did my other girls hair - He is awesome! The pricing is well below a lot of other salons in this area. Overall, pleased with hair, make up and pricing! Thank you for making my day even more special! more

asked for thin streaks - got chunks 2/23/2009

I was very unhappy with the service I paid for. I asked for thin highlights and got chunks of brassy color. The hairdresser, Donna, said she thought that was what I wanted . . .but I was very specific. She seemed a little more interested in what was going on around her chair than in her chair. Will not return. Pros: television Cons: they don't listen more

Worst salon experience 1/1/2008

If you're thinking of going to this salon. Think again. My aunt, who at the time of her service just received the news she had breast cancer, went to Donna for a perm. Donna serviced 3 clients while her perm was processing. By the time Donna took the rods out she couldn't get a comb through my aunt's hair. Then on top of it all Donna charged my aunt for the perm, sold her protein treatments, and blamed it all on the medications my aunt hadn't even begun to take yet. My conclusion is that the owner of this salon isn't only a bad hairdresser but also a heartless, greedy person. Pros: Don't need an appointment Cons: Having to deal with poodle hair for a year more
