Don Pepe Restaurant & Caterers

Whenever I'm in the mood for some REALLY GOOD Spanish/Portuguese/Italian food I make the long hike to Don Pepe's in Newark NJ. Although it's a 50 minute drive from my house, the drive is definitely worth it. Don Pepe's is located in Newark NJ..right when you enter newark. It's a decent area of Newark and they have people looking out for your car. The atmosphere is casually elegant. YOu don't need to wear a dress...but nice pants and top are appropriate. The seafood dishes here are phenomenol...They have shrimp, lobster, oysters, clams..etc...most entrees are seved with Spanish rice. If you drink Sangria..this is the place to have it. They serve it in Pitchers ..and it is soooo yummy. They also have different Chicken and Beef dishes which i have also tried and are excellent as well. The portions are humungous at this place. Two people can definitely share one Entree. If you go with a group of people, it's probably best to order two or three dishes and share with Everyone. The price of dinner is not cheap but for what you get it's not outrageous either. most entrees are around 20 bucks..but with drinks and tip and desset etc.. you can spend 40 bucks a person. I usually go to Don Pepe's on special occasions..birthdays, valentines days etc.. Overall this is a great place...with great food, and a nice staff as well. Defintely give this place a try. more

I have been thinking about their paella ever since my last visit to Don Pepe. The portion is so much that it's recommended to share between at least two people. Their steaks are also very good. The atmosphere is great for couples or family. It's a bit pricey but it sure its worth it. Definitely gotta try the paella. more

Don Pepe Restaurant is a very popular restaurant in the Newark area, well known for its fresh lobster, which is available all year round. Diners have their choice of preparations and can choose the size of their lobster ranging anywhere from a hefty two pounds to a gigantic eight-pounds. Don Pepe also offers a variety of meats, including filet mignon flambe, broiled sirloin steak served with the specialty sauce of the house and veal chops done in a mouth-watering brandy and mushroom sauce. No Spanish restaraunt would be complete without paella and they make the most delicioius Paella Marinera and the portions are large, really its enough for two people. In fact all their portions are large so most likely you'll need a doggy bag. All of Don Pepe's main dishes range in price from $14.50 to $27.50. There is also an extensive wine list. The mural-lined walls of Don Pepe's dining rooms make for a casual but attractive atmosphere and the mood is always lively, since the restaurant is always hopping. Definitely the place to eat if your in Newark or the area. more
