wow, I had the same experience as Ron. It has been months that I have been trying to cancel my account. I even sent them my government issued ID and they said it had expired, even though it doesn't expire for another 4 years. I informed them of this and threatened that I contact my attorney. They claimed they misspoke. I called the DBP number on their website...and low and behold it went directly to Godaddy. I'm glad ""John"" from the previous post was able to help....but something tells me Godaddy is in on this scam. more

Domains by Proxy (DBP) are a bunch of crooks. I signed up for domains through godaddy.com and opted for the add-on privacy which automatically creates an account with DBP. However, I never received additional information with account #'s or passwords to access the privacy account. Why would I need to? Well, as I continued to renew my domain and realized the cost was doubling as a result of privacy, I contacted GoDaddy to drop the privacy. They told me I could only do that online with DBP and that I needed to request a ?change of email address? on my account since I had changed my email account when I first obtained the domain names and privacy. GoDaddy could not provide me my DBP account #, so I emailed DBP who demanded a copy of my government ID. I faxed them a copy and they told me it was not of sufficient quality. So, I went to Kinko's and had them scan it as a jpg and I sent that to them. Then, they demanded a business license for the business on record. The problem was that I never established a business for these domain names and I explained this to DBP. (Of course all of this correspondence was via email because that?s the only way ?account services? will communicate with you.) DBP would only continually reply to my emails that I needed to check my emailed receipt from the original order (8 years ago) for the account information. I also emailed them that if there was a business on my account, it was done fraudulently or somebody made an error. They just continued to send me the same form letter response to check my emailed receipts. They obviously were not reading the body of my messages. Since that was an old email address from 8+ years ago, and I don?t have access to those email records, I located a phone # online for DBP. When I called, I was connected to sales/support. The guy who helped me was ?John? and was very helpful. However, he did not have access to my records in this department and although he tried several people to help me, he was unsuccessful. He spoke to account services on my behalf but they refused to talk to me on the phone. They only told him I needed to email them, but they had been ignoring my previous claims of fraud activity on my account. Finally, John told me a work-around that might work. He told me that DBP uses the same password as my GoDaddy account. In addition, he told me that if I started the ordering process of adding privacy to one of my other domain names, it would show me my full account #. I did this, and sure enough it was correct and I was able to access my account with my godaddy account #. If it were not for this DBP employee who bent the rules and told me a work-around to their BS customer service, they could have continually held me hostage paying their ridiculous fees in an effort to maintain ownership of my domain name. They make the process of retrieving account information so difficult, they only way to stop your privacy payments to DBP is to cancel your domain name. Of course, somebody else then has the ability to purchase your domain name from under you. Never again will I use their privacy service. more

No Such Corporation! 3/17/2011

These people, as far as I have found thus far, are not only scamming people whom use their service, they are also lowering the Google PR Number levels/scores of the sites they link to! I happen to be a forums admin at Int'l Rivers & Forests BBS Inc (the one in Michigan that owns Earth Topic and Dream Topic online communities) and I DO NOT like the fact that I am being constantly placed under attack by their scam spammers. They do nothing but ruin the excellence of the internet and tarnish the name of business owners and of capitalism! These people should be rounded up and executed for treason against The American Dream and against their violation of said dream, when other people are trying to accomplish that Dream via legitimate means. DBP, Inc, if you are reading this, Knock It Off. Quit linking to my sites, stop ruining my PR no.s, and stop being such a bunch of pains-in-the-rear-ends to all of your actual customers, not just the folks who are seeing an offense to their incomes due to your shenanigans. By the way, Domains By Proxy will soon have a court date. I will be arranging a lawsuit against a bunch of scammers soon, if I find (1) the time and (2) an excellent lawyer at a competitive rate and (3) enough other LEGIT treps to launch this lawsuit. Wish me good luck! PS - Domains By Proxy - Remember to knock it off, capisce? You don' wanna know what'll happen if ya fail to do so, okay? We good? You not good. Pros: Get out of my face. Cons: They're a total scam. To webmasters of other sites as well. more

Horrible service and domain theft. 5/23/2010

I have been in a battle with Domains By Proxy for sometime now and am losing to get control of DriaConsulting dot com. I lost access to the email address that I registered DriaConsulting dot Com with, and they demanded that I prove my identity. So, I faxed and emailed my drivers license and birth certificate with my godaddy reciept and they kept claiming that they never recieved it and then started ignoring me. Godaddy says they can do nothing about it. So, i setup redirects and updated my server and my site to use JDiLegge dot Com. Now I just have to get new business cards and new business shirts made up to be rid of DriaConsulting dot Com all-together. I will never use Domains By Proxy again and cancelled the service with all of my other accounts I had with them. I have had strange ltency issues with DriaConsulting dot Com, not sure if Domains By Proxy had anything to do with this, but all of my other domains were fine and Godaddy and my ISP wasn?t able to find any reason for it taking 30 seconds for DriaConsulting dot Com to load. Pros: Protected my info Cons: Hijacked my domain more

Lousy Customer Service & won't let you cancel! 4/19/2010

I made the mistake of taking this service through Godaddy for one of my customer?s domains and the customer decided he did not want it. So far I have been unable to cancel the service. They have come up with excuse after excuse as to why their cancellation procedures are not working. At ths point I don?t care about the money, I just want this thing gone! Most recently they informed me that I needed to unlock my domain at Godaddy before their cancellation procedure would work. I unlocked the domain at Godaddy, check to make sure it had taken effect and then went back to their site to do the cancellation and it still did not work, even though I tried it over and over again! I went back to Godaddy and re-locked the domain because I don?t trust these guys at Domains by Proxy. Cons: Won't let you cancel account! more

Avoid at all costs. 10/10/2008

Domains by Proxy allows spammers, hackers and ID thieves to hide their ID and create phishing schemes on the internet. Owned by Bob Parsons of Go Daddy fame. This service also supposedly allows domain owners who don't want to be spammed, the ability to hide their ID from spambots. Pros: nothing good Cons: Aloows for crimal behavior more
