My favorite place to eat period! I'm there 2x per week and love it! Get anything on the menu and you'll be happy!

Worst

No bad, but far from the best BBQ in Los Angeles. I can't understand why such a high rating. The Bear Pit up the street is vastly better.

This is Texas Q that'll stay with ya for DAYS. The Hot Links are AWESOME. They are at least 50% garlic - you have been warned. Forget the ribs. This place is for Chicken (more 'n you can eat), Brisket, Links and Leg 'o Pork. And the SAUCE! The hot will make you whimper in pain and tremble with pleasure. And ENORMOUS portions. A 2-way combo is at least two meals for me. Forget a 3-way. And the waitresses are the sweetest - they RULE. Not a bunch of snotty wanna-be actresses at some trendy Ventura Blvd. dive. Great food and BBQ sauce for centuries. The ambience of a truckstop but then I go there to eat the brisket, hot links, and macaroni salad. THe Doctor may be long gone but the memory lingers on and on. more

As a true native Texan, I can vouch for the authenticity of Dr. Hogly Wogly's. Despite the unfortunate name, the food is fantastic. The beef brisket is totally awesome and like true Texas barbecue, requires no sauce whatsoever. The pork was great too. The portion sizes were enormous for L.A. stomachs, so be prepared to take some home with you. The ribs and chicken will have you thinking you ordered a brontosaurus burger! Don't bring a large group, as the biggest tables can accomodate 4, and with Texas-sized appetites, I'd recommend a party of 2 or 3. Every bar-b-que lover must go to this place at least once in their life. Best beef ribs in town. I'm from Chicago and this is the only bar-b-que around the LA area I have eatin at that compares with midwest quality meat. Cons: not large enough more

This place is awesome. I've been going since I was kid, and I have never left unsatisfied! I take every new friend that I meet there. Here's a tip - ask for extra marinade, it's the best part. Pros: Inexpensive, Tasty, Fun Cons: too few tables more

Nobody has better ribs than this place! The beans are really good too. And who can resist that soft, hot bread?! No fancy decor and sometimes there's a line out the door, but it's worth it!!!!!!! more

Even though the sliced beef was tender...the taste was not as good as the ratings made it seem. I was not impressed and I was thinking about going to Lucille's Smokehouse next time. It was a drive to get there ...over 30 miles. Everyone has their own taste but this place was not for me and my friends. I will not be going back but they will certainly keep their local customers. more

I started going here 15 years ago. It was wonderful. For the last couple of years you have to be careful. If you go in the afternoon or early evening many times the food taste like you are getting food that was cooked yesterday and re heated today-Dry and Hard. Their sause has a great taste - whice makes it stand out-but it is to exspensive to be served yesterdays food. more

Having been a loyal eater & customer of the Dr's as we have called it for over 30 years. I have turned on more people to this place than any other I know. If you are hungry and want the Best BBQ in the San Fernando Valley than the Dr. has the cure. There is nothing bad on the menu, bring your hunger and some friends for a great messy meal. Pros: huge portions, great price, great smells Cons: none, none, none more

We tried this place as it was recommended by friends that live in the area. We were very pleased with the food as well as the service received. The cost is not inexpnsive, but since the portions were so generous, we felt we received decent value. Meat Tenderness = 10, Amount of Fat ""Marbeling"" = 10, Eveness of Cooking = 9, Marinade/Sauce = 10+, Portions = 10+.\r Forget the rest of the locals, Hogly's is ranked in the top 10 Nationally. Don't miss the experiance. It's so good - people buy ribs to take back to friends in New York before they take off from LAX !! You can cut the Brisket with a butter knife. Their BB-Q Chicken's are bigger than most Turkeys. Pros: Out of this world Brisket - How do they do it? Got to be #1 Nationally! more
