Bad service, inconsistent food 5/27/2010

This used to be one of my husband's favorite Thai restaurants. At first it seemed like a wonderful place, the service was decent and the food was above average. The space is a remodeled house, with a white dining room with candles and flowers. There is an upstairs space but I have yet to see it. The restaurant is actually perfect for a first date, the food and the service could kill it though. Food: It’s no longer great. Some of the dishes are ok, the pad see ew that I had last time I was there was decent. The dish that my husband had, I believe it was something like garlic beef, was very tough with little flavor. As for drinks, pretty standard. The Thai iced tea was exactly the same as every other place. They also have wine and beer. Service: In the last year it’s gone downhill. The last time my husband tried to order delivery the woman on the other end could not understand that he was saying 80th St. He said it at least 10 times. He said it slowly, clearly, loudly, and spelling it out for them. They still didn’t get it. Eventually he told them goodbye. I understand that it’s a Thai restaurant and English isn’t the first language, but a fluent English speaker should be operating the phones. It was ridiculous. The last time we ate in house it was a busy night, I’ll give them that. But when a restaurant brings the appetizer out with the meal, it’s a no-go. It didn’t help that the waitress was curt and rather rude multiple times. It made for an uncomfortable atmosphere. I won’t be going back, such a pity. They have great potential. Pros: Beautiful and unique space, sometimes good food Cons: Inconsistent, bad attitudes, poor service more

How does this place get such great reviews when the food is bad.... 2/23/2009

I don't normally write reviews, but felt compelled to do so in this case. I have tried this restaurant in the past and did not have a very good experience (the food was very bland). Recently I decided to order take out and thought I'd give this place another try based on the reviews I saw here. Once again I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. The fresh spring rolls were tasteless and the chicken Phad Thai is the worst I have ever had. The noodles were very slimy and although I had ordered chicken, the dish had a bad seafood taste to it. I could only take a few bites before I had to throw the meal out. Trust me I'm not very hard to please when it comes to food and am rarely critical of restaurants. If a basic such as Phad Thai can't be prepared well, how is this place getting such great reviews? \r Pros: Fast delivery Cons: Poor food quality more

Favorite Thai Restaurant in Seattle! 8/2/2008

After too many disappointing meals at Thai-ku in Ballard, my boyfriend and I were so thankful to find Djan's in Wallingford! The atmosphere is quiet and cute (votive candles, fresh flower arrangements on every table), the service is polite and attentive, and the food is delicious! We have both since taken our family and friends for dinners there and no one has been disappointed. My favorites are the green curry and the noodle dishes!I am always surprised that this place isn't busier, but I don't mind not having to wait for a table. Pros: Cute atmosphere, Tasty food more

Consistently Delicious Thai Place 8/14/2007

When I used to live in Wallingford, I would eat at or order from Djan's all the time. The food here is consistently delicious and well-prepared. I've tried quite a few things that it's hard to choose a favorite dish, but my top two choices include their house signature dish called djan's fusion noodle. It's a combination of phad kee mao and phad thai and the hybrid of the two dishes together is divine! I would recommend ordering it with the fat, wide noodles instead of the skinny phad thai noodles it's normally served as. The Garlic Lover is also a great choice - a hearty mix of your choice of meat with perfectly stir-fried vegetables married in a delectable oyster, soy sauce gravy. If you order rice, I would suggest to dunk it in the leftover sauce of this dish. My boyfriend LOVES their curry chicken skewers off of their appetizer menu and orders them about 90% of the time. Although I normally get their food to-go or have it delivered, when I have dined here, I have loved the service (everyone is always considerate and kind) and the atmosphere is simple, but welcoming. I love how it was once a previously owned house. The upstairs provides private dining and is quite charming. One of the few Thai places I actually go to regularly. Pros: Service, ambiance, food more

zen-like 11/22/2006

this restaurant just gives off a great vibe. not to mention that the food is very well prepared, and the service is excellent. the interior has a very minimalist and clean feel. i had gone here prior to their remodel, and i love it just as much--if not more, now. I appreciate the homey feeling of this restaurant, as you are aware that the cooks are just in the next room (or what you would imagine was originally the kitchen in this house). I will continue to dine here for years! It's so quaint and unique! Cons: street parking more

Good food and ambiance and well-priced to boot! 11/11/2006

I love dining at djan's. They serve an abundance of excellent food for a great price. It's a small dining facility the meal always feels more intimate (even with a larger group). I imagine it would also be a good choice for a date night. more

cozy & yummy 5/9/2006

we had a group of six, so we were seated in the private room upstairs. the service was excellent - very polite, very attentive. the food was pretty good but nothing really stands out. if you sit upstairs, you have to sit on cushions and the guys complained about not having something to lean on and how they couldn't stretch their legs. there is a small parking lot in the back of the house-like restaurant. Pros: good service, food, ambiance Cons: parking more

Awesome place! 10/29/2005

We were initially surprised by this house-like place. But once you go inside, the ambience really surprise you. The colors are warm and trendy. Very clean and homey place. The menu is great, though I won't try the weird stuff like samurai pud thai. Stick with the menu items with NORMAL names. Their coconut chicken soup and green curry are particularly AWESOME! Their papaya salad isn't too authentic though. Pros: Good taste, Great value, Good ambience Cons: N/A more

No exaggeration-It is a complete experience 5/15/2005

What a refreshing experience. In a city where service is no longer expected and mediocre food is rampant, there is DJan. As you walk in you realize that this is no ordinary Asian shop; the decor is well thought out, simple, yet mesmerizingly elegant, all the way down to the mat and that mini flower vase on the table. The food is consistently of the highest caliber. Creative with the best ingradients available. It's vegan-friendly, too (me). The service has been one of the best I have experienced in the whole city. Seriously, you owe it to yourself and your date to go there. Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Food Cons: None, None, None more

So relaxing and pleasant 11/6/2004

The wait staff are so polite. The ambiance is so relaxing. And without fail everytime the food has been exceptional. There is also a few parking spots behind the house. Treat yourself! more

Great Restuarnant 10/12/2004

This is a very cool place to eat. The Thai is fantastic and has some old favorites done a little different. The service is great, and the all white decor makes it look very hip Pros: Food, Service more

This place is so cool !! 10/25/2003

I live in Greenlake area and always look for a good restaurant to add in my favorite restaurant list. This place is awesome. At first, I stopped by the place just because of its look from outside (white house, clean & charming): however, once I stepped in I totally fell in love with the ambience inside (simple but elegance). I ordered Samurai Pad Thai, I must say it's very good mix of Thai Noodle & Japanese Tempura. It's one of the best Pad Thai in Seattle (apart from Thai Tom in U-District). My girlfriend ordered the djan's fusion noodle seafood and she just love it. Don't forget to have a peek on the private party room on the 2nd floor, it's very contemporary asian decorating. Stop by to try it and you will love this place as we do. more

Thai Fusion with Gucci Bling Bling! 8/28/2003

I've eaten here 3 times since it opened and fell in love with Djan's special noodle. Great appetizers! If you want traditional thai decor, this is not the place. When I walked in the place, I thought Tom Ford from Gucci/YSL. It's light and bright. Sure, it's mostly white with minimalist design (Thai-Bauhaus) and gorgeous solid wood furniture. The owners are Thai and they said ""djan"" means ""moon."" It's a great funky change from your typical thai restaurant. It's very resort-like and loungey. The design is cool, but come here for the food, unlike any other thai restaurant. Pros: Thai Fusion, Ambience more
