If you haven't tried the duck sausage orchietto pasta you haven't lived. Wonderfully creative dish with a bit of bite. Just one of many wonderful creations from the owner/chef Patrick. Love this place! more

Make the same mistake twice 7/12/2011

I love Italian food and when friends wanted to go out I thought of some place close. I have had a bad experience in the past but I thought that after a couple years they had surely gotten their act together. I was invited my friends to my local Italian restaurant but the service we received had me so embarrassed. The ambiance felt so strange with waiters laughing and playing in the corner but when they came to the table the stiff upper lip came out. We came in a good mood and left in a bad mood. I offered to buy dessert across the street but the night was shot. If you want to impress your starchy Brit friend or get back at your boss for not giving you that bonus then come here otherwise you might want to get a Totino's Pizza, a cheap bottle of wine and some good company before you shell out top dollar for crappy service and sub par food. more

When in Rome.... 12/9/2008

I have frequented this establishment for some time. It may be good to note, even if you use large words like insolent or inordinately, if you are accustomed to fast food this place is not for you. The chef at this restaurant is an artist and will not prepare your food quickly or let it sit under a heat lamp. He will take his time to make sure your food is top notch. The people who have a complaint about the time it takes to prepare a top notch meal should also not badger the waitstaff. This shows bad manners. You can not expect an establishment to bend its standards of service to reflect your passion for fast food. There is a reason the food tastes so good. This restaurant is for low key people who can appreciate a two or three hour meal. The waitstaff is never in your face or interrupting your conversations. Most regulars here understand that the waitstaff is not the evenings entertainment or a personal butler. This place would do well to keep the uncouth at arms length and focus on the individuals and families that can appreciate good wine, and SLOW food. Pros: unpretentious Cons: people compaining about no drive thu more

Good food and wines cannot compensate for rude, insolent and indifferent wait-staff. 12/7/2008

We recently discovered Divino and have been there three times in the past two months. The food is excellent, the wine-list good and the ambience is pleasing but we found the behavior of one waiter who, unfortunately served us on two separate occasions, a little bizarre. On our first visit, until repeatedly asked, he did not inform us of any daily ?specials?. The third and, probably our last time, the same waiter was extremely tardy in taking our orders and appeared to be miffed when my wife decided to change her order. We were a party of six and for some reason my wife?s dish seemed to take an inordinately long time to come out. When asked about the delay he mumbled something about ?not wanting to upset the chef?. After the main course was cleared, even before offering dessert or coffee, we were presented with the bill. When asked about this strange behavior on the part of our waiter, the person who passed for the maitre?d was not in the least bit apologetic or helpful: choosing rather to complain of the additional costs the restaurant would incur by our splitting the bill three ways. Seeing as that at least two other reviewers of this restaurant on Citysearch found reason to complain of indifferent and almost contemptuous service, there is obviously a systemic problem at this establishment and despite the fact that the food was excellent, with the present economy, I would rather spend my money where my custom is appreciated. Pros: Excellent food, Good wine list. Cons: Rude, insolent waitstaff and indifferent management more

waiter without personality 8/25/2007

This was our first time to Divino. We had read the reviews, and hoped for an excellent meal, as we were celebrating. I ordered the goat cheese ravioli. I am Italian, and was expecting much better. (Actually Prego in Rice Village has 3 ravioli dishes that are so much better!!) The ravioli was sitting in what I considered grease. I think it was olive oil, but it was just plain greasy. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin. It was not tender, had no flavor and was over-cooked. We can do much better on our grill at home. We did order the calimari, which was good, but also lacked in flavor. One of our favorite things about eating Italian is the BREAD. No bread. Not even suggested. The waiter had no personality, no smile, no energy. Will not be going back. Pros: quaint, nice ambiance Cons: wait staff more

Thank you Divino! 1/15/2007

Divino saved us on this last New year's eve. After reservations at another fave Italian place not too far away went awry we were on a scramble to find another place to eat. Divino is less than half a block away from where we live so we popped in just to see if they could squeeze us in. Luckily they had 1 table open. Yes the tables for 2 can be a little claustrophobic but the food and the wine selection are out of this world. Our waiter was very prompt and courteous and not so intruding like some other places. I agree with one writer ""If you want your butt kissed by the wait staff this is not the place for you."" Excellent mashed potatoes that night as they were part of a special New year's menu. Can't wait to return for a regular night.... Pros: Great food and wine, service is just what you need Cons: 1/2 Paved; 1/2 Dirt parking lot is a little strange more

A place we can always count on 1/12/2007

We keep Divino on our speed dial of restaurants we can count on. Most of the time we get in just before or just after the crowd. We always ask for a wine recommendation and we have never been let down. New items have recently been added to the menu and so far the ones we have tried are every bit as good as our old favorites. We love the small neighborhood atmosphere, if you want big and noisy look elsewhere. Pros: Wine, food & neighborhood feel. Cons: None unless I can't get in. more

Great food, great wine! 9/11/2006

Divino's has great authentic Italian dishes with a small bistro ambiance. You definitely don't feel like you're in a corporate chain restaurant. This place also has a great wine selection and offers great recommendaitons. Staff has always been unassuming and helpful. Great place for a date night. Pros: food, wine, service more

Have always enjoyed Divino 4/9/2006

I'm perplexed by some of the reviews. I've eaten at Divino probably 10 times and have always left happy. True, it's not as spacious as I would like sometimes, but I won't begrudge a small restaurant trying to serve a reasonable amount of people. The wine list is great and although I'm no expert, I've gotten several great recommendations from the staff. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten there and never had staff be rude or inattentive. Parking can be a little touchy and the ambience is nothing spectacular - but I can't eat ambience. I'd rather the effort be put into the food, which I believe it is. Pros: Good food, Good service, Moderate price more

Horrible Experience 3/26/2006

I have never had such a horrible experience at a restaurant. The staff was flat-out rude. Though the food was not bad, the service guaranteed that I will never eat here again. Pros: food Cons: service more

Wine and Dine Me! 1/23/2006

I had the privilege of going to Divino, and indulging in their wonderful wine selection. The bartender was very knowledgeable of the variety and directed us to the wine for which we were in the mood and complemented our meal. Let me just start off by saying, if at all possible, I would have ordered the whole menu for myself. However, I decided on the Steak Salad, which was so flavorful with the added touch of candied figs and Gorgonzola. My date ordered Emily's Goat Cheese Ravioli, which was complimented by a savory cream sauce. This is great Italian food that leaves you totally satisfied without that typical heavy Italian food feeling. Pros: wine, food, ambience Cons: none, none, none more

Good Food, Good Wine, Good Time 7/2/2005

Always ask for a wine recommendation. This place is about wines that the owner has gone to Italy to find. He will spend time talking with you about his recent trips and wines that he has brought back. He frequently will have you sample different wines that he has openned, and have a little with you. It is a friendly negborhood restaurant. The menu is not extensive, but the food very good. Pros: Lots of Good Wine, Good food, Friendly and Intimate more

Disappointed 12/13/2003

My husband and I went there on a Saturday night for the first time and were were very disappointed in the atmosphere. All the tables for 2 were spaced so closely together. I had to listen to several conversations going on near our table the whole time. We will not be going back. Cons: poor seating, loud more

Quiet Italian restaurant 12/6/2002

This is a nice, quiet Italian restaurant. The food is well-prepared and it is a nice change from the chains. The wine selection is also good. The atmosphere in the restaurant is inviting with its artwork. more

Divino dos & don'ts 9/13/2002

DO GO TO DIVINO IF...you appreciate deliciously prepared, authentic Italian dishes, such as the house made goat cheese ravioli in sage butter, or fettucine DELICATELY sauced with TRUE bolognese (dishes even the NATIVE Italians who eat there regularly can't seem to get enough of)...you prefer small, family-run NY or SF style restaurants with personality, and an unstuffy, unpretentious atmosphere...amazing wine selections at amazing values... DON'T GO TO DIVINO IF...you think that just because you live in a ""restaurant"" town, it entitles you to treat the people who work in them rudely...you prefer corporate restaurant chain atmospheres...you are expecting white tablecloths...you think oversauced spaghetti & meatballs is Italian...you want fast food...this ain't Mickey D's honey, and those of us who prefer the DO list DON'T want the rest of you to go there anyway! Pros: Food, Wine selection, Ambience Cons: Parking..., Because when 5 eat more

Thank God 8/7/2002

Don't go to this restaurant if you want your butt kissed all night, or if you want Olive Garden portions. Do go if you have been to Italy and want a reminder of the real flavors you found, whether it was in Piemonte or Sicily. Although the quirky service can annoy Chilis-loving Americans, the rotating wine selection, the perfectly cooked pastas, and un-smothered grilled meats and fish should convince anyone to return. I have been there at least 10 times, and pay a visit everytime I am in town. Ask the bar guy about new wines - always something special. Pros: Wine selection, Food, Food Cons: Parking more
