The great thing about this is you can get a good run or hike in and see great views. I recommend parking in the North Lot then doing a loop down to the beach to see the lighthous...

The Wilderness in the Middle of Town! 4/23/2010

Discovery park is amazing! It is a mammoth park in the middle of Seattle. The emerald city is not the largest city by any stretch, but the population is pretty dense. That said it can be really nice to know a few spots quiet spots spots. This place in the summer will be buzzing with activity and makes for great people watching. The views are spectacular, some of the best in town. I would say this place is great for tourist or locals alike! Pros: Huge! Cons: None. more

Perfect in town adventure 10/5/2008

If you don't have time to make it to the many hiking trails outside of Seattle then Discovery Park makes a great escape for the outdoor lover. It is a huge park that sits at the tip of Magnolia and is filled with trails and great water views. I would recommend walking around (instead of driving) the trails and taking in all the natural beauty this city park has to offer. It is an odd setup though and some of the signs can be mis-leading, so I would grab a map at the visitor's center before wandering around. This park does have a lot of open space and if you don't have to time to make it out of the city, it could be a great adventure into nature. more

A Jewel in the City 10/30/2007

It's becoming more and more popular. But if visitors keep their dogs on a leash and stay on existing trails, then the beauty of Discover Park will last for a very long time. You can visit my blog about Discover Park at discoverypark.typepad (dotcom) Thanks, Irwin Pros: A complete escape right in the city. Cons: The word is out. more

  • In Short
Discovery Park is the crown jewel in the impressive array of Seattle's wild parks. This 534-acre park, which surrounds Fort Lawton military installation, has three main entrances and an extensive trail network, ranging from bluff-top strolls to sandy beach walks. A good introduction is the 2.8-mile loop from the visitor center. You'll pass through a forest of old-growth, broad-leaved trees and second-growth conifers, with overlooks featuring excellent views of Puget Sound below.
