Avoid! 8/18/2008

I have always had the need for a GI and had good and bad. Moving up to N Scottsdale I found Dr. Jones. He is a smart man and very sweetly-mannered, as well as well-educated. Unfortunately he does not seem to be very sympathetic to his patients' pain, which I have a low threshold for. I got the feeling that he thought I was a med seeker, when in reality through my tests, etc. it was obvious that I was in extreme pain. I had made clear to him that after having a condition my whole life and taking pain medicine, I had a high tolerance, but he seemed to only want to barely control my pain, not get rid of it completely. That said, he is a great doctor. Unfortunately, he is in the worst possible office, with the worst possible staff and partners. I was unlucky enough to be met by Dr. Skoog, who was subbing for him while he was out of town. I found her rude and crass, as well as insensitive, poking around everywhere quite roughly and causing pain. She then almost denied me a treatment that would have essentially gotten rid of my flare-up altogether, because she thought I wouldn't keep up with it (I would have, I had just had a lapse in my insurance and couldn't afford the phenomenally high treatments at the time, so I was delayed). She just read my chart a little too fast (read: skimmed). Which brings me to his office staff. Everyone likes to be greeted politely and recognized. These people barely say hello to you when you call up (and I am not rude, I usually greet them quite pleasantly, only to get a flat, ""hi""). Joking with staff is aparently not allowed, because nothing is funny to them, or they just don't know how to smile. Office visits are strictly business, no pleasantries. I am now an outpatient, and it seems that whenever orders are needed for me to get treatment anywhere, there's a problem. I have been told by other nurses that this is always a problem with their office, and they wonder how much they care about their patients. Not a good sign! Pros: Dr. Jones is nice, although insensitive to patients' pain levels Cons: Staff is HORRIBLE more
